Q. How to access the S&P Capital IQ databases


This FAQ covers 1.) accessing S&P; 2.) what to do if you have problems; and 3.) how to install the S&P Excel add-ins for Pro and Standard. 

1. Access:

To access our S&P databases you need to:

  1. Ensure third party cookies are enabled in your browser (instructions for different browsers and devices

  2. Login with your University username and password using these links:

2. Problems? 

  • If you are unable to see a login screen: click on this link to clear any S&P cookies. Then ensure third party cookies are still enabled, close all your browser windows, restart your browser and use the access links above. 

  • If you get a message that your account has expired, please contact support.ciq@spglobal.com who can reactivate it for you - you will then need to login with your University username and password using the links above.

  • If you had saved data in a previous account that is not showing, please contact the Business Librarian who will arrange for this to be mapped over to your new account. 

  • If you have any other difficulties accessing S&P please contact the Business Librarian and include a screenshot of the error message and details of which browsers you have tried.

3. Using the Excel Plugins on S&P Capital IQ Pro and Standard

3a.) Using the Capital IQ Excel Plugin on a personal device

Download and install the plugin from Pro. 

Once installed, complete the below to allow you to login via UoP:

  1. Go to Windows Registry Editor (in Windows 11 search for regedit to bring this up)

  2. Go to following location: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SNL Financial\SNL Office\SAMLSettings\]

  3. Right click and add a new Key: String Value SAMLUrl. Right click to modify and set the value as 
    https://secure.signin.spglobal.com/sso/saml2/0oa1nndfj3btpoKCY1d8/app/spglobaliam_sp_2/exk1mw4pskqubQAnJ1d8/sso/saml

  4. Then add two new DWORD values - one called LoginHeight with value 00000300​ and one called LoginWidth with value 00000300

It needs to look like the below:

Then go into Excel and use the new S&P CapIQ Pro tab - click on a function and login using your UoP login and authentication method. 

If you have difficulty with this:  the Business Librarian can send you an attachment which you save to your desktop with the extension “.reg” which forces the change. 

 

3b.) Using the Capital IQ Standard Excel Plugin on a personal device

(please note this only runs on Windows devices)

On the Bloomberg terminal in the library, please follow steps 3-6

1. Download the Office plugin from CapIQ:

2. Run and install the software.  You may need to restart your computer to view the tab in Excel

3. Once the S&P tab is showing in Excel, click on CIQ add-in settings and enable the Is SAML User tickbox

4. Press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+F12  keys at once to open the following dialog box

Add this SAML link in the SAML URL: https://secure.signin.spglobal.com/sso/saml2/0oa1nndfj3btpoKCY1d8/app/spglobaliam_sp_3/exk1mw4syfjR5fMGh1d8/sso/saml

5. Click on Close and then Apply.  Now restart Excel completely to enable the new login process.

6. Open Excel and login via the S&P tab using your university username and password
