So, if you guys were keeping tabs on this community, you've probably noticed that we ... completely dropped the ball on our promise of seasonal/themed fic challenges. We'd once said that we were planning to be as consistent possible with these and we didn't exactly follow through with that. Honestly, life ended up getting the best of the moderators (from school to work) and it wasn't a plan to have this community moved to the back burner, it just kind of... happened. Regardless of that though, we're back! Or we'll be putting things together to make a comeback over the next week or two. It's been something that's been in consideration for a bit, but we figured it'd make most sense to try and start again where we begun: with a Halloween challenge. It feels like coming full circle and we fully intend on keeping our word this time around with our seasonal/themed challenges/exchanges.

The Basics

This is a Halloween trope challenge, meaning you will pick any K-pop girl group (or solo artist) and a 'trope' listed below to serve as your prompt, from which you will write 500+ word fic!

i still don't get it?

You pick one group/artist, and one prompt from the list below. For example: 4minute and zombies. This is your prompt claim; a mod will clear your sign-up and you will be added to claims list, meaning no one else can sign up with the 4minute/zombies combination. This is to try and add more diversity to the tropes and artists being written for - we don't want 30 4minute/zombie stories and nothing else, right?

So you take the artist and prompt combination that you signed up for, and write a 500 word story about it, and post it before the deadline. Easy, right?

hold on, some of these prompts are pretty vague. how do i write for them?

Any way you'd like! If need be, you can google each trope for more information, but there is no 'right' way to write for each one. For instance, for zombies, you don't have to write about your chosen group as zombies. They could be running from zombies, hunting zombies, dressing up as zombies, watching a zombie film, anything! This goes for any of the listed tropes; any interpretation you want to write about is just fine.

can i pick an group or trope that someone else has already claimed?

Yes and no. You can pick the same group or trope that someone else has already claimed, but you can't pick the same group and trope. So, if someone has claimed 4minute + zombies already, you can't claim that, but you can claim 4minute + vampires or A Pink + zombies. There can be multiple claims for a certain group or artist, so long as the tropes are different.

can i sign up multiple times?

Yes! You can sign up for a maximum of five (5) group/prompt combinations. However, you cannot repeat a group or trope in any of those sign-ups. So you can only sign up for 4minute once, and zombies once, for instance.

am i allowed to change my prompt once i've made a claim?

Yes. You can change a prompt at any time - even after sign-ups have closed. As long as it isn't something that has already been claimed for your group, you can reply to your own sign-up comment or contact dearestmod at any time for a prompt switch.

can other idols be involved in my story?

Yes, they can. You can include as many idols in your fic as you'd like, so long as the main focus of the story revolves around at least one of the members group the group/artist you chose.

i don't have a livejournal account, can i still sign up?

Of course! Sign up in the comments as you would if you did have an LJ account, with the exception of the Username section of the form. We would prefer if you left us with some other way to contact you (Dreamwidth, email, etc.). When you've finished, email the mods (dearestmod@gmail.com) with the filled out posting form and either raw data of your fic or a link to where you have posted it elsewhere, and we will post the entry to the community for you.

what if i can't finish by the deadline?

Contact a moderator, either by PM or email, if you believe you won't finish by the deadline. We are very understanding! If you miss the deadline and fail to contact us, however, you will be blacklisted from the next seasonal challenge; if you participate(d) in any weekly challenges, you will be exempt from the points system until the next cycle starts.

are we allowed to sign-up for another entry after sign-ups close?

If you've already signed up for at least one prompt before sign-ups close, then you are welcome to claim 'secondary' prompts after Sept 20. These will not follow the same 'no repeats' rule as the main prompt claims, so there can be multiples (although you cannot use any of the main prompt claims that have been made), and unlike prompts claimed from Sept 13-Sept 20, they bear no consequences if you fail to complete them; they are simply fun extras if you should find you would like to write more after finishing your original claims.

Posting:

Posting opens on October 1st, 2013. So if you finish your story before that date, we ask that you refrain from posting your fic until October 1st. When posting your entry to the community, you must tag it with 2013: halloween as well as any female groups or solo artists involved. Head your post with the following template, providing any necessary warnings; you must warn for graphic violence, character death, and/or noncon/dubcon. After the header, either link to where you have posted your fic or paste your fic directly into the post, behind a cut.

unniedearest is a season fic challenge and exchange community. We offer a variety of challenges throughout the year, including: Halloween, Secret Santa exchange, and Valentine's ficlets. Rules vary for each challenge, and more information will be distributed closer to the date of a particular event. In this post, you will find just a few general rules and guidelines.

This community focuses solely on female artists in the K-pop fandom. That means any entry to any challenge must focus around a K-pop artist who identifies as female. We accept female-focused het, gen, and femmeslash (female/female). No slash (male/male) fiction will be accepted. You may feature male idols in your fic, but only as secondary characters; the focus of the fic must be a female idol. Genderswapped male idols do not count.

Plagiarism, stealing, or anything remotely along those lines is prohibited. We have a zero tolerance policy, and if we find any entry to any challenge is not of your own work, you will be banned from the community.

Please tag your posts correctly - see the posting format below, and any specifics particular to each challenge in the post for said challenge.

Posts are moderated, so any entry to the community will be gone over by a mod to check for correct posting format. Any posts lacking the correct format will be rejected, and we will explain the problem; simply correct the error, and resubmit!

Don't be jerk; respect any and all writers, moderators, and commentators. This should go without saying.
