With an epic career that spans 30 years, two new films and multiple projects on the horizon, Ryan Phillippe is not going anywhere.
JR: You have had such an awesome ride in your career, from I Know What You Did Last Summer, a cult classic, to 54, which I love, and Cruel Intentions, Lincoln Lawyer, all of which are favorites of mine. How do you stay in the game this long without burning out?
RP: It’s interesting; I feel like there have been periods where I did burn out or come close to it. I have been doing this now for over 30 years, which is crazy. And over the course of a 30-year career, you have peaks and valleys in almost any business that’s bound to happen. But particularly in this one. And with the way things have changed over the last ten years, there have been times, not so distant times, where I have contemplated doing something different with my life, and that is sort of why I had begun to branch out into the hospitality space, because as much as there’s aspects of entertainment and being an actor that I still do very much love, it’s not rewarding on the same level, just because of the fact that there are so many streamers now and the market is flooded with content, and it feels like to get something to resonate is even more difficult than it was when I first started out.
Ryan Phillippe and co-star Tom Pelphrey, a CBS actor, feature in the first trailer for a true crime movie titled American Murderer. Pelphrey starred as Jason Derek Brown, who’s a fugitive currently on the FBI Most Wanted List and still at large. Phillippe is after the prime suspect, Brown. In the action-packed thriller, one of Phillippe’s special agents, Lance Leising, tries to apprehend the suspect.
According to the official synopsis, Brown is a deadly individual who’s constantly plotting his crimes. But it gets deadlier when he starts to run out of funds. Brown brings out his A-game in such situations, leaving the special agent trying to track him down. Source
The actor, best known for starring in films such as Cruel Intentions and Crash, is to host and executive producer a series delving into the history of Hollywood’s stunt performers.
Phillippe, who starred in USA Network series Shooter and has upcoming films such as Summit Fever and American Murderer, has teamed with Wheelhouse DNA on The Fall Guys (w/t).
It comes as part of a content pact with the company, part of Brent Montgomery’s empire that produces podcasts such as Locked In with Alex Warren and Spotify’s Internet Urban Legends as well as Facebook series Cookin’ with Brooklyn.
The series will feature interviews with actors, producers, technicians, directors and legendary stunt performers and will highlight the often-overlooked heroes of moviemaking and the artform that has been a crucial component of film and television for more than a century. The Fall Guys will also analyze the physical and mental toll stunt performing takes on the body, spotlighting the men and women who put their lives on the line for the sake of entertainment.
Wheelhouse DNA is currently taking the series to prospective buyers.
