Entertaining, informing, connecting and championing our Armed Forces.

About us

BFBS is a military charity and broadcaster that informs, entertains, connects and champions the UK Armed Forces. We bring entertainment, news, sport and information services to the military, their families and veterans worldwide. We spread happiness and keep people in touch, building morale among the military overseas – offering them a valuable connection to life back home, and a way to share experiences and build communities. We are also the home of military content, championing the military by keeping their activities in the public eye. And our commercial services, which provide income for our charity, span training, digital and creative services and pioneering technology solutions that enable media and communication in the hardest to reach places. BFBS is a modern, vibrant and forward-thinking organisation that attracts talented people to join us and help us develop. We strive to create a diverse and collaborative working environment where everyone can contribute, learn and be themselves. We have a number of networks run by our community of colleagues, including Wellbeing, and Diversity and Inclusion.

During Armed Forces Week, we’re taking time to recognise the contribution of the Armed Forces community within our organisation. Today we’re marking Reserves Day with BFBS Forces News Social Media Producer Alexander Candlin, an Army Reservist with 156 Royal Logistics Corps. Alex marks his 12th year this month serving in the military, having previously served with the Queen’s Own Yeomanry and now with 381 Squadron RLC in Lancaster. “When I first joined, I was completely different to how I am now, often staying quiet while I adjusted to life in the Reserves. Today, I’m a Skill at Arms Instructor, regularly lead teams on military skills competitions, and have travelled to some amazing parts of the world with incredible people.” Alex's experience and skills gained through his service add real value to our organisation, and we’re pleased to support him, and others, through our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, being a Gold Award holder with the Employer Recognition Scheme. Thank you, Alex, for what you bring to the team! #BFBS #LifeAtBFBS #ArmedForcesWeek #ArmedForcesCovenant #Veterans #ReservesDay #Reservists #Buckinghamshire #SERFCA

At #BFBS, we are committed to being a truly inclusive organisation where everyone feels valued for the contribution they make.   We recently published our latest #GenderPayGap report for 2025, which sets out our workforce data and reflects our ongoing focus on #fairness, #inclusion, and #opportunity at BFBS.   Our latest figures show a median gender pay gap of 5.9%, which remains below the UK national median of 12.8%.   Ben Chapman, BFBS CEO said: “We continue to support positive long-term change, including industry collaboration to improve representation in media roles, and ongoing reviews of pay and recruitment practices. And we remain focused on supporting progression and building an inclusive workplace for all colleagues.”   You can read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eUsHHGkU   For the latest career opportunities, visit: https://lnkd.in/ehyt58vZ

Our Belonging Network, a colleague-led network that champions #diversity, #equity and #inclusion, brought staff together earlier this week in an informal and inclusive lunchtime setting to mark #Pride. We are deeply saddened by the loss of Lieutenant Commander Chris Gayson, Lieutenant Lily-Mae Fisher, and Petty Officer Owen Green, who died following a helicopter training exercise in Devon on 3 June 2026. All three served with distinction and dedication. Chris had given 18 years of his life to the Royal Navy, shaping the next generation of pilots as an instructor and flight commander. Lily-Mae was an extraordinary aviator and athlete who had achieved so much in her career, and was just days away from receiving her Pilot's Wings. Owen, at just 24, had already distinguished himself as one of his squadron's most experienced operators in Arctic conditions. They were not just exceptional service personnel. They were sons, a daughter, a partner, and a friend to so many. At BFBS, serving the Armed Forces community is at the heart of everything we do. Days like this remind us why that mission matters so deeply. We stand with everyone across the military family who is grieving today. Our thoughts are with the families, friends, and colleagues of Chris, Lily-Mae, and Owen. We ask that their privacy is respected as they face the hardest days ahead. If this news has affected you, please reach out for support at bfbs.com/audiencesupport. Rest easy.

Sun, service and esports! 🌞 On Friday, members of our Comms, Radio and Esports teams headed over to the Royal Air Force Brize Norton Families Day, an event celebrating the families who support serving personnel and recognising their resilience and contribution. It was a brilliant day connecting with the community, meeting BFBS supporters, and seeing families get involved in everything on offer including our Esports Hot Lap Challenge! 🎮 We also had a wonderful time speaking with key personnel, including Station Commander Group Captain Louise Henton OBE ADC BA (HONS) MA RAF. BFBS Stakeholder Engagement Manager Adam Powney said: "It was such a joy to be part of the RAF Brize Norton Families Day and connect with so many wonderful people in our community. As a military charity, moments like these are a powerful reminder of why community engagement is at the heart of everything we do. A real highlight was having the BFBS Esports team join us with their racing simulator, which was a total hit and a brilliant way to showcase how we're evolving and growing our esports offering. A huge thank you to RAF Brize Norton for the invitation, and to every single person who stopped by to speak with us, the conversations we had were truly invaluable" Jonah Jupp Owen Williams Gemma-Leigh James Adam Powney #BFBS #LifeAtBFBS #RAF #RoyalAirForce #RAFFamiliesDay #BrizeNorton #Esports

🎓Congratulations to our 2026 Graduates! 👏 Yesterday our Creative Media Production course students graduated after 7 months of intense training in theory and practical skills, to prepare them for a career in the media industry. 🎬 Kim Nguyen Curriculum Manager at the BFBS Academy said: “As well as celebrating their academic achievements, it was about recognising growth, resilience, friendships, challenges overcome, and the exciting futures waiting ahead. Watching this cohort develop into confident, capable individuals has been a privilege and seeing how far they’ve come fills us with immense pride. Every student is a veteran and leaves with their own story, ambitions, and potential, and we cannot wait to see the impact they will make in the world beyond these walls.” Congratulations graduates! #creativemedia #productionmanagers #mediaindustry

At 0400 Nepalese time on 23 May, a team from the British Army’s Ranger Regiment stood on top of the world, successfully summitting Mount Everest after more than a year of preparation, training and acclimatisation. The expedition team battled extreme conditions, navigated the notorious Khumbu Icefall and pushed through the “death zone” above 8,000m to achieve the remarkable feat. Following the summit, Expedition Leader, Major Joe Adamson spoke to #BFBSGurkhaRadio from Kathmandu, reflecting on the challenge, the narrow weather window and the privilege of completing the climb alongside an exceptional team of Sherpa mountain guides. #BFBS is proud to have followed the expedition throughout its journey.
