Fandom Snowflake Challenge - Day 1

Never done this before. Looks like fun though.

Day One

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

First, a fic. I'm not much of a ficcer, but I'm going to rec outside the gates of eden. Despite not having been finished in order, it's the fic that serves as the very beginning of the Instead of My Saints 'verse that language_escapes and I wrote together. Her pieces of the 'verse are much more well-written than mine, but I am very proud of this one. And the 'verse as a whole was a ton of fun to write. I miss it.

Next, a pair of fanmixes made for the Avengers Reverse Big Bang from 2012 and 2013.
If I'm Not Right With You was for the 2012 RBB, and was the first time I ever limited myself to a specific genre for a fanmix. That made it a lot harder to make initially, but it was still incredibly fun. I have listened to that one on repeat countless times, because I'm STILL trying to write the fic that was the story I saw happening in my head as I was making the mix. (Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore the fic that was written for me, but it was definitely not the fic I was seeing.)
Maybe Together We Can Get Somewhere is the 2013 contribution, and while there is no accompanying fic, I had an absolute blast making this one. Especially the back cover, because that was probably the most advanced thing I've ever done in an image-editing program.

The fanmix I'm probably proudest of out of everything I've ever made, We Will All Go Down Together.

I'm reccing a lot of fanmixes because I don't feel like fanmixes get the attention they deserve.

And last but not least, a pair of fan graphics. They were from my first (...only) attempt at making Tumblr-style graphics, and the best of the set of 10 I made.
a M*A*S*H graphic that got me a "WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THIS" from my bestie and a marriage proposal from another good friend, and
this Supernatural graphic that made Gayle call me a monster, which is possibly my crowning achievement in all of fandom.

I...didn't actually realize I had this many things I was proud of. Huh.

And in honor of having seen Thor 2, I think Darcy is going to be my default icon until December. Because while I love the Charlie Brown Christmas icon I have, I refuse to actually use it until after Thanksgiving is over.

(This is how I protest the fact that Christmas ads start playing on tv as soon as Halloween is over. It's not a terribly effective protest, I'm sure.)

Hey everyone! I dunno if I've talked about it much, but I'm participating in the Avengers Reverse Big Bang again this year.

The art claims post went up this morning. And while over half the art pieces have been claimed already, there are still ten pieces left unclaimed.

So if you're a writer who's got some time, why not check it out?

(My piece has already been claimed. But it would be fantastic to see every piece get claimed this year, because last year's RBB had a few pieces that nobody ended up claiming, and I felt super bad for them.

Plus, if everything is claimed, they'll probably open up a second round of claims, for anybody who missed the first round. And that would be kind of awesome.)

This one's gonna be short, though. Just wanted to talk about the fact that I had a job interview yesterday, and I feel like it went really well. Got an email today from the prof I interviewed with, saying that it'll be close to 2 weeks before I hear one way or the other (because of hiring regs at the university), but that he enjoyed talking with me yesterday and that I'm high on his list of candidates.

So.

FINGERS ARE CROSSED.

(Because goddamn would I love to have health insurance again. And the ability to occasionally throw money at things I like and want to support. Like AO3. And Kiva.)

(Also, would love to be able to afford to go see West Side Story when it's in town in June. WANT.)

Pretty fun so far.

Major dilemma: can't tell if character is being played out of character on purpose (i.e. acting weird because they're a werewolf), or if player is just not good at RPing.

Like, I don't want to vote someone off because they're a shitty RPer, you know?

(And this is probably all I can say on the subject because 1. the game is still ongoing, and 2. because naming names is a shitty thing to do in this instance.)

Been spending the afternoon nominating icons for people over at bestof_icons Best of '12 Icons...thingy. And while it's a lot of fun to see all the super cool awesome things other people have made? It also is making me feel SUPER INADEQUATE about my own iconning skills. There are a lot of techniques I see a bunch of people using, but I genuinely have NO IDEA how they do it. And it's making me kind of go WAUGH because I wish I knew how to do those things.
