Which version do we like better?

Sice my interview on Tuesday (who knows how well that went), I've been cruising around on YouTube in between scouring the great wide Internet for jobs. I think I've seen every Graham Norton video by now and went searching for music tonight.

Now I present you with a question, or rather a series of them. Under the cut you'll find a few videos in pairs: the first will be the original, the latter (or latter plurals as the case may be) is/are a cover. The poll at the bottom is for you to tell me which version you like better.

A.	First up we have Depeche Mode, Marilyn Manson, and Johnny Cash, each performing "Personal Jesus"

A1. Depeche Mode
<lj-embed id="111" />

A2. Marilyn Manson
<lj-embed id="112" />

A3. Johnny Cash
<lj-embed id="113" />

B.	Next up "All That She Wants" performed by Ace of Base and Britney Spears (No, I'm serious. Britney did "All That She Wants". It's so scary it deserves a listen for a few seconds.)

B1. Ace Of Base
<lj-embed id="114" />

B2. Britney Spears
<lj-embed id="115" />

C.	"I Cant Stand The Rain" as interpreted by Tina Turner, Ann Peebles, and Missy Elliot (I'm torn on this. I love all three versions.)</em>

C1. Tina Turner
<lj-embed id="116" />

C2. Ann Peebles
<lj-embed id="117" />

C3. Missy Elliott I may be biased with this one. Missy sampled parts, sang bits, but overall, her flow, her sound ... it was all just so new and exciting. So fresh. You couldn't help but to perk up and pay attention when her first album dropped onto the scene. (Plus, that fisheye lens work was just fun.
<lj-embed id="118" />

D.	Now we move to "Satisfaction". Here we hear Otis Redding and The Stones

D1. Otis Redding
<lj-embed id="119" />

D2. The Rolling Stones
<lj-embed id="120" />

E.	Who can forget "Smooth Criminal"? Alien Ant Farm versus Michael Jackson

E1. Jacko
<lj-embed id="121" />

E2. Alien Ant Farm
<lj-embed id="122" />

F.	"Behind Blue Eyes" as done by The Who and, oddly and melodically enough, Limp Bizkit

F1. The Who
<lj-embed id="123" />

F2. Limp Bizkit Is that Halle Berry in this video?
<lj-embed id="124" />

G.	This one has me confused. Both Beth Ditto of The Gossip and George Michael killed it when they sang "Careless Whisper"

G1. Beth Ditto She grew up about 40 minutes north of where I lived when I was in Junior High and High School, where my grandfather's farm is. I could have visited the crazy girl had I known.
<lj-embed id="125" />

G2. George Michael
<lj-embed id="126" />

H.	Another tough choice. "I Will Always Love You" as done by both Dolly Parton and Whitney Houston

H1. Whitney Houston
<lj-embed id="127" />

H2. Dolly Parton
<lj-embed id="128" />

I.	"It's My Life" by Talk Talk, later covered by No Doubt

I1. Talk Talk
<lj-embed id="129" />

I2. No Doubt
<lj-embed id="130" />

J.	Here's another easy choice for y'all: "Hound Dog" by Big Mama Thornton and later, Elvis Presley (Both are live versions to make it fair)

J1. Big Mama Thornton
<lj-embed id="131" />

J2. Elvis Presley
<lj-embed id="132" />

K. Here's an interesting paring of versions. "Tainted Love" by Gloria Jones, then Soft Cell, then Marilyn Manson, and finally by The Pussycat Dolls

K1. Gloria Jones
<lj-embed id="133" />

K2. Soft Cell
<lj-embed id="134" />

K3. Marilyn Manson
<lj-embed id="135" />

K4. Pussycat Dolls
<lj-embed id="136" />

L. "Nothing Compares 2 U" was done by a lot of people. Here I'm narrowing your choices to Sinead or Jimmy Scott (both haunting).

L1. Jimmy Scott
You'll have to click this link. (Unfortunately that one won't embed)

L2. Sinéad O'Connor
<lj-embed id="137" />

M.	"Such Great Heights" by both The Postal Service and Ben Folds (He'll show up again soon)

M1. Ben Folds
<lj-embed id="138" />

M2. The Postal Service
<lj-embed id="139" />

N. Here's Ben Folds again, this time up against Dr. Dre and Snoop for "Bitches Ain't Shit"

N1. Snoop & Dre
<lj-embed id="140" />

N2. Ben Folds
<lj-embed id="141" />

O.	"My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion was covered by A New Found Glory and I thought I was going mad when I saw it. Odd.

O1. A New Found Glory
<lj-embed id="142" />

O2. Celine(!) Dion
<lj-embed id="143" />

P.	I didn't even know this was real! "I Love Rock and Roll" by Britney Spears(wtf) and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

P1. Britney Spears
<lj-embed id="144" />

P2. Joan Jett
<lj-embed id="145" />

Q.	Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" as done by The Red Hot Chili Peppers

Q1. The Red Hot Chili Peppers
<lj-embed id="146" />

Q2. Stevie Wonder
<lj-embed id="147" />

R.	"Barracuda" by Heart and then by Rasputina (kinda cool, wish I could find better audio quality)

R1. Rasputina
<lj-embed id="148" />

R2. Heart
<lj-embed id="149" />

S.	Both of these are excellent: Annie Lennox and Bob Marley "Waiting In Vain"

S1. Annie Lennox (She could kill a puppy and choke someone to death with the head and I'd still love her.)
<lj-embed id="150" />

S2. Bob Marley
<lj-embed id="151" />

T.	A little odd, this one: Queen's "Under Pressure" by Joss Stone and Keane

T1. Joss Stone
<lj-embed id="152" />

T2. Queen
<lj-embed id="153" />

T3. Keane
<lj-embed id="154" />

U. Paula Abdul's "Straight Up (Now Tell Me)" by some random guy on YouTube

U1. Random Guy (David Werner)
<lj-embed id="155" />

U2. Paula Abdul
<lj-embed id="156" />

V. "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" by Judy Garland was covered by the Hawiian sensation Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole. That guy can sing.

V1. Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole
<lj-embed id="157" />

V2. Judy Garland
<lj-embed id="158" />

W.	The Postal Service covered Phil Collins' "Against All Odds" and it turned out beautifully. Oddly, so did Mariah Carey.

W1. Phil Collins
<lj-embed id="159" />

W2. (Nearly Tax Time, too, people) The Postal Service
<lj-embed id="160" />

W3. Mariah Carey
<lj-embed id="161" />

X.	"Forever Young" was written by Alphaville and covered by a few people. Here's Youth Group's version. (This isn't the Rod Stewart song, by the way.)

X1. Youth Group
<lj-embed id="162" />

X2. Alphaville
<lj-embed id="163" />

Y.	This is where you can choose Rod Stewart if you so wish. He covered Bob Dylan's "Forever Young"

Y1. Rod Stewart
<lj-embed id="164" />

Y2. Bob Dylan
<lj-embed id="165" />

Z.	Finally, I'll leave you with "Love You Inside Out" as done by The Bee Gees and interpreted by Feist (I dig this one.)

Z1. Fiest
<lj-embed id="166" />

Z2. Bee Gees
<lj-embed id="167" />

Now, which of those did you prefer? Well ... crap. I don't have a paid account any longer and now I can't make a poll. Here's the text of it anyway.

"Which cover makes the cut?"
A. "Personal Jesus"
Depeche Mode
Marilyn Manson
Johnny Cash
Other/None of these (Tell me why?)

B. "All That She Wants"
Ace of Base
Britney Spears
Other/None of these (Tell me why?)

C. "I Can't Stand The Rain"
Tina Turner
Ann Peebles
Missy Elliott
Other/None of these (Tell me why?)

D. "Satisfaction"
Otis Redding
The Rolling Stones
Other/None of these (Tell me why?)

E. "Smooth Criminal"
Michael Jackson
Alien Ant Farm
Other/None of these (Tell me why?)

F. "Behind Blue Eyes"
The Who
Limp Bizkit
Other/None of these (Tell me why?)

G. "Careless Whisper"
The Gossip
George Michael
Other/None of these (Tell me why?)

H. "I Will Always Love You"
Whitney Houston
Dolly Parton
Other/None of these (Tell me why?)

I. "It's My Life"
Talk Talk
No Doubt
Other/None of these (Tell me why?)

J. "Hound Dog"
Big Mama Thornton
Elvis Presley
Other/None of these (Tell me why?)

K. "Tainted Love"
Gloria Jones
Soft Cell
Marilyn Manson
The Pussycat Dolls
Other/None of these (Tell me why?)

L. "Nothing Compares 2 U"
Jimmy Scott
Sinéad O'Connor
Other/None of these (Tell me why?)

M. "Such Great Heights"
Ben Folds
The Postal Service
Other/None of these (Tell me why?)

N. "Bitches Ain't Shit"
Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog
Ben Folds
Other/None of these (Tell me why?)

O. "My Heart Will Go On"
A New Found Glory
Celine Dion
Other/None of these (Tell me why?)

P. "I Love Rock And Roll"
Britney Spears
Joan Jett
Other/None of these (Tell me why?)

Q. "Higher Ground"
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Strange Medical Tales From My Patients

I think I'll start writing short little tales about the funny things that happen to all my patients before I forget. Here's a short one to start.

Before the whole <s>Snakes</s> Liquids On A Plane debacle, our patients would often collect 24-hour urine samples while travelling from wherever they may be to our hospital. (Now they collect them before and mail a portion in or do it once they arrive; either option is a hassle.) At any rate, Mr. X was flying here from Florida. He had a Nalgene container he was collecting his urine in with him and had put it in a carry-on case, tightly sealed, with his other medical supplies and such. Now, while a plane is pressurized, it isn't quite as many Pascals as found at sea level where he tightly sealed the container.

''It's not?'', you ask. No, but you don't notice because you take so long to reach 35,000 feet and, while it's not as pressurized, it is close. Does anyone remember Pascal's equation?

P2 - P1 = -(ρ)(g)(h2-h1)

Basically, what this says is that fluid pressures at two points of a connected tube will stay the same if acted upon by an outside force provided there is a place for the fluid to go. Example: U-shaped tube filled with water and sealed with movable metal plates atop the water. You push on one, the other rises.

You can extrapolate from that law and the Ideal Gas Law that when the pressure on the outside of a container like that decreases, the volume of gas inside the container will try to expand to fill it.

Think on that for just a minute. I'll wait.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Back? Okay, you've guessed it by now. The lid to the Nalgene container full of urine popped off and urine went all over the overhead compartment. Poor Mr. X had to pay Delta a huge fine and started writing checks to all the people's stuff his urine contaminated. He was mortified, but later laughed to us about it.

I'll never forget that one.

Calling for Geek Assistance (Star Wars help)

Some time back I saw a fan-produced short film where three male roommates got a mysterious package delivered to them: a box containing three lightsabers. They proceeded to play with them, as all us men would naturally do, and eventually went outside to cause less destruction and hopefully get the deposit back on their lease.

While at the park, they met three female roomates, also possessing lightsabers.

Does ANYBODY know where I can find this or at least what the name is? My Google-Fu fails me.

Help!

Dear Harry Potter Fandom

Being asked by LJ not to post potential child porn - fictional characters or not - does not constitute oppression, nor does it equate to Nazi-like levels of evil, nor does Live Journal belong to you, the user, but rather to Six Apart, the company that purchased it. As a Harry Potter fan, I am asking you to shut the hell up. Jesus.

For reference: One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven (particularly hilarious), Eight (particularly WTF?) there are dozens more.

LJ isn't banning all fandoms and fan-fics, just the ones that involve only smut with under-age (by US laws governing pornography, which, by the way, is 18-years of age, the same as in the UK and Canada ... age of consent isn't the same as the age at which you can be a porn star) characters, fictional or no. Please, please, please just calm down. You're making yourselves look like fools.

Some of you, like S, are very talented writers who write fan-fic in very brilliant and imaginative ways. Stunning pieces of short fiction, in fact. Most of you, however, are Mary Sues and pornographers with no redeeming literary at all. Just. Stop.

And the next person that changes that "First they came for the ... And then they came for the Jews..." poem thing to anything related to fandom is going to get my foot up their ass.

Bush Commutes Libby's Prison Sentence And I'm Disgusted.

Yes, he did. Libby doesn't have to go to prison for his crimes because our glorious President is above the law. And the world knows, yet again, that our current administration feels that it is simply granted rights by God to do whatever the bloody hell it feels.

Here's the best quote (from the first link) from Mitt Romney, a presidental hopeful for the upcoming election:

Two Republican candidates for president, Mitt Romney and Rudolph W. Giuliani, expressed support for Mr. Bush’s decision. Campaigning in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mr. Romney said, “I believe that the circumstances of this case, where the prosecutor knew that there had not been a crime committed, created a setting where a decision of this nature was reasonable.”

And here I was thinking that lying to a grand jury was perjury.
SYTYCD Top 18 Recap or How Much I Hate The Wardrobe Wench

Tonight's theme is ''Why We Dance'', or so I've come to learn after seeing the Q&A session Cat recaps during each background piece. Also, you'll notice more than a few nods to last season.

Lauren and Neil:
She danced for her mum; he danced for his best friend. Nice back-story. Very nice moves from them both in their solo auditions. They do think they need to make their chemistry down and they had the "luck" to draw hip-hop. They're training with Dave Scott, a very hard pop-and-locker. He'll incorporate some of Neil's movements, so this should prove interesting. I think Neil may just be too smooth for this

Music and "What The Hell Are They Wearing":
Mild and inoffensive, yet tragically grammatically incorrect, a song entitled "The Way I Are" by Timbaland and Keri Helson is our inspiration. First of all, I plan on finding this year's wardrobe manager and beating him or her within an inch of his/her life. No. Seriously. What the ever loving hell do they have her wearing? Tulle skirt, black mid-shin tights, black sneakers, white and black bustier ... thing. Awful.

Dancing:
I really enjoyed Neil's style. Very good and I thought he did an impressive job with it. The roundness of his movements worked pretty nifty. Lauren was equally as good. I have to go back to Neil though ... very very entertaining to watch. His legs are LONG. I really don't have the proper adjectives to describe it. It was smooth. It was fun. It was slick and contemporary. Overall a very interesting and fun piece of work.

Judges:
Mia - "A hell of a lot better than last week." She could have done without Lauren and Neil rocked her world.
Mary - no more cheerleader action. She saw the chemistry, pulled a Paula Abul on the dive - though it was pretty damn impressive.
Nigel - "Loved it from the pair of them, frankly." Fun, nice, thinks maybe they set the bar for "out of their style" dancers tonight.

Jessee & Pasha:
He dances because he saw it (being the half naked dancing girls) and wanted to be a part of it (in them). She dances because she's always done it and it's her therapy, expression. They're very proud of last week, as well they should be. It was beautiful and bordered on indescribable. This week they have Jazz and Tyce Diorio.

Tyce is beginning to get on my nerves, but if he can reproduce something akin to the Zap Mama piece he did with Travis and Heidi last season, I'll let him off the hook. Another "African" routine. Let's see.

"Stiff Jazz" by dZihan and Kamien - Pouncing movements. Very sharp and staccato. Reminiscent of the Zap Mama piece, but thankfully only in a mild way. I don't know what kind of poor bird they ran over with a truck and pinned to Pasha's arm and Jessee's tit, but they've got to go. Again, Wardrobe Wench, I blame you.

Dancing:
Liked it. Very very cool. Lots of quirky head jerks from her - I'm guessing she's the bird. No, he's got feathers too. Mating dance. In that case he should have more and brighter feathers and she should be sitting still, but I suppose nature is just an inspiration rather than a literal translation here so I'll let Tyce slide. Pasha's really putting on a show, but wow ... Jessee is giving this her all. That was pretty cool.

Judges:
Mia "I love birds." Michaels - "Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. Fabulous." She's gained some Pasha love and is "so proud of [him]". As are we, my dear.
Mary "Paula Abdul Is My Street Pharmacist" Murphy - Really enjoyed it. Really descriptive. Really drunk. But I agree. Wholeheartedly.
Nigel "I'm Not Simon Cowell" Lithgoe - He was impressed, especially with Jessee. Liked Tyce's style tonight, and so do I when he doesn't Fossy his way onto my bad side.

Jamie & Hok:
Her older sister danced, hence, Inspiration!. Hok didn't take up dancing until he was a teen in Japan, saw a breaker on TV and was hooked. He was sure happy about last week. Very much his style, not hers. She's proud. She did okay last week, has cause to be happy. They have a samba and I swear to god he's gonna be 2 feet shorter than her if she's in heels. Jean Mark and his wife are back. And he's still insane and OMFG why did she do that to her hair? Whatever Michael, get past that. Dancing. Dancing. Look at Hok! He's picking up the steps quickly. Wicked. She's excited to spank Hok and I think she's really 12 years old.

Music/Wardrobe:
Outfits are appropriate yet really blue-on-blue and sparkly. Then again, that's the style. I missed the music. Sorry guys. By the way, I totally called the "He's too short because of her stripper-heels" before Nigel says anything.

Dancing:
I realise that the Samba is meant to be a very open and free style, but you should touch each other once in a while. Ahh ... there we go. Little off on a couple of the turns, but the over all choreography is nicely put together and I think they did well. Pretty good. Pretty nice. Pretty uneventful. I don't think I liked it, but I don't know a lot about ballroom apart from this show, so what do I know? Let's wait for the judges.

Judging:
Mia - She's been drinking whatever Mary's been drinking. She loved the hips "sexy as hell" and says that Hok's amazing.
Mary - Mia drank all Mary's Paula-Juice. Finally gave an honest critique. Called the feet (that I didn't notice) and the turns (that I did). Good, honest, and above all helpful, critique.
Nigel - wanted more close-holds (Cool, I noticed, too.) and old-fashioned routines. Says their performance was terrific, but the choreography obviously isn't their problem. Again, helpful suggestions. Nothing about him being short. Colour me surprised.

Dominic & Sabra:
He dances to get laid. Says he doesn't get any trim. I think he lies. Wonder if he's a Leo? She was inspired by a friend and her style. That's nifty. Judges were unsure about their routine, as were the voters apparently as they ended up in the bottom three. They know they can do better. They got Contemporary and Mandy Moore (no, not that one). What's with the Walkürenritt (Ride of the Valkyries)? Sabra's a bird and Dom's gonna make her fly. Woah. She's gonna rip a hamstring. He's a confused animal. So am I. He hit his junk. I cringed too.

Clothes and Tones:
"I'll Stand By You" by The Pretenders is a sufficiently overly-emotional song to perform a lovey-type-contemporary piece to, for sure. Starting with her: Interesting dress. Gauze annoys me. As does tulle. Where is the Wardrobe Wench shopping? The bargain bin at Leftover Costumes R Us? Dom's got on a nice suit and appropriately barefoot. Who could dance this piece with leather soled shoes, I ask?

Movement though space:
Starting on the floor in a contemporary piece? Really? Never would have guessed it. Dude, When did Dom learn to move ... round? She's exquisite, simply beautiful. This side of Dominic is a sure surprise. He's nailed this. Honestly. The flight bit was, indeed, impressive. Sabra's movements are exquisite. Every movement is perfect. To me at least. Must wait for Mia. Fabulous ending with a back-drop-catch. I loved the entire piece, but this is what I like watching. I wonder if I'm biased. My god, but how I loved the last 60 seconds.

And I know I've seen that back-of-the-knee kick in a Season 2 routine. Little help?

Judgment Day:
Mia - Brace yourselves; here we go. "What are you feeling, Dom?" He's scared and wants to impress her. Lucky boy, he did. She loved the piece and got a little teary-eyed. So's he. He's obviously proud of himself and he should be. Wow. High praise from Mia is always beautiful. She was just as effusive to Sabra.
Mary - Parroted Mia. Loved Mandy. Loved the way they captured the choreography.
Nigel - Called Dom out on shaving his toes to show that he's (Dom) serious. Very proud and very heavy-handed with the praise for Sabra first, following the same with Dominic.

Faina and Cedric:
Mom's the inspiration and motivation for Faina. Mom wouldn't let her quit when she hit the 13-year-old bitch stage. Cedric used dance as an outlet. I think that's rather common for expressive dancers. "You can either exert energy through hitting somebody or dancing." Good call, C. He loved last week and his performance. Her, not so much. She saved herself by making Nigel need another towel. Hunter Johnson is going to teach them to Fox Trot. Faina can partner well, but can she help Cedric? Can she stay on her "railroad track" while he goes on and off her "track" with his Jacko moves?

Sing along with me and the girl in the Pepto-Dress:
"You're The Boss" by Elvis Presley & Ann-Margaret. Puffy, Pink, Pretty(??), Nice pinstripes on Cedric. I covet that outfit of his. I'd so wear that out. Elvis would have requested more sequins. Ann-Margaret would have requested a bullet to the head.

Jump, Jive, and Wail In Dismay:
Billie Jean Hat moves are featured playfully and needlessly. Good turns from her. Hell, she aced this whole thing. Let's concentrate on Cedric as he'll be our problem if there is one. He doesn't seem "bouncy" enough, sort of heavy on his feet and entirely uncomfortable. I wonder what Mary will say about that. Love the ending, boys and girls. She's going to carry him this week. I wasn't that impressed. Maybe he needed a hoodie instead of the pinstriped vest?

Bum bum bummmm:
Mia - "Ginger Rogers and an insecure Michael Jackson" ... when is Jacko secure? When he's banging 7-year olds. But I digress. She tells him to work harder and that he's better than this piece. She realised that Faina was overpowering him. Is that Faina's fault?
Mary - Not right for this piece and must have been a hard job for Hunter. Fiana = Amazing. Cedric = Putting Them In The Bottom. Not just the clunky feet, but called him on the arms too.
Nigel - Agreed with the other two. Faina FTW, Cedric not so much. Thinks Ced's nerves may have gotten the better of him.

Lacy and Kameron:
We know why Lacy dances. Mom and Dad passed it on genetically. Um ... Jennifer Beal wants her "She Works Hard For The Money" shirt back, Lacy. Kameron saw his sister dance when he was 5 and knew it was what he wanted to do from the moment he saw it. Plus, Mum says he'll get his choice of ladies. They are both bloody proud of themselves from last week. Christ, I hope they're not full of themselves. She says that she knew she'd be in the bottom. Maybe she's not too big-headed. Damn you Tyce. You had fucking Jazz Hands and I hate you from the depth of my very soul. HATE.

*sigh* Calm yourself, Michael. Calm.

I hear sequins. [/frightened whisper]:
"Oveture/And All That jazz" Chicago soundtrack and Chicago's sequins. Wardrobe Wench and I are gonna throw down. The outfits are louder than the music. Pierced belly button? You rebellious Mormon Harlot! I joke. I joke. Looks good on anybody with a body like that. She should show it off. Too much lipstick. I wonder if Kameron owns shirts with sleeves or if he's just a vest kinda guy.

Sassy?:
Opens with a slow burn and then lights up. As per usual, Tyce thinks all Broadway dances should border on Vaudeville, but at least Kameron got to show some strong moves and Lacy got to mover her feet like we know she can. The choreography was tight, together, and I can't really find fault with it aside from the fact that I hate the entire style. Loved the very end. Nicely done.

Family Outing:
Look! Dad's found his electric sign. We see Mom too. And Heidi. And half of Benji's head. Later the whole thing. Bleached his hair a dark blonde.

Words:
Mia - Gives them the Sexiest Couple award. Not sassy enough. Apparently she and Tyce are on the same page. Told the audience to "Eww! Shut up!" funny. Did love them.
Mary - Danger? Where the hell do you see danger aside from her top?
Nigel - He proposed on behalf of Kameron and wishes them a long and fruitful union. They'd have hot kids. You just know the shippers just dampened their collective panties.

Anya and Danny:
Apparently Russia makes you become a ballroom dancer before you can become a woman. Who knew it was a right of passage? If you have to know attitude and balance before you get a feminine hygiene product I hate to think what us guys have to go through. Danny says he was a trouble maker. I'm thinking more "Teenage Mutant Dancing Turtle Gay Drama Bomb", but we can gloss over that. Last week they had fun and think that they did well. Everybody must have too because they were safe. Now they get the Viennese Waltz. He says that he doesn't know what it is. Ask Donyelle. It's from the Orient, remember? Danny is having trouble romancing Anya. Danny! Picture her as Neil. That'll help you out some, brother. This may not have an in-between. I feel a very Suck or Swim situation coming out for this routine. Love it or hate it.

Cat remembered!

Sing When You're Winning:
"You And Me" by Lifehouse. This is what Travis auditioned to last season. Homages all over the place. Sparkle-y Salmon meets Nearly Normal Tie. Well played on Danny's outfit WW, but we need to talk about your taste in women's clothing. Really. A LONG TALK. With blunt objects to help get my point across.

Twirl and Spin:
SWIM! They're nearly always together on their turns and they both have great extensions. He can't seem to decide if he's supposed to pint his hands or not. That twirl ... thing ... was awesome. I've no clue what to call that but it was wicked. Anya's rocking this one. That was really gorgeous. Lemme gay out here for a second, "Fabulous!"

Praise All Around:
Mia - She loves his hands. Honey, he's not doing anything to YOU with them. Loved them. Loved them. Loved them. Man and Woman of the Competition.
Mary - Complemented their picking up the new moves so very well. Hunter and Maria must really have done a great job. *Mary Scream* Poor Nigel. They are Mary's favourite couple.
Nigel - Says every thing's been said. "How beautiful." Ahh ... a "reverse attitude turn". Thanks, Nigel. "Routine of the night so far"

I need more beer. Lovely, blessed Newcastle. How I love thee.

Shauna and Jimmie:
More family (always the mother for the girls?) for Shauna's inspiration. Jimmie needed a fine arts credit in middle school and his d20 landed on dance. The accident paid off for him big-time. Tyce's Diana and Michael-inspired jazz-fest from last week will be followed by a hip-hop routine tonight. Again, Dave Scott. Dave's hard. They're not. They're contemporary and soft and squishy and smooth and flow-y and not at all hard. Bless. 10:1 this is going to end up very cheerleader instead of stomp-the-yard.

I want that sweatshirt:
Bright read hoodies and SYTYCD-wear. I'm digging it. I missed the music because I immediately got involved in the movement.

Stomp (At) The Stage:
Apparently Shauna can step. I say goddamn. She's a pretty good video girl, sort of a really pale and silent Rhianna. Not too hard, but she's hitting all the points right on time and it doesn't feel too "by the numbers" to me. Jimmie, on the other hand, I'm not exactly feeling it. It's not bad, but you can tell that he's about as Gangsta as Bryant Gumble. He's good, but ... I don't know. Maybe it's me. Over all, that was good. Not fantastic. Not fabulous. But solid.

Mia - She thought it was a little "dancing school". She's the professional, I defer to her. She loved Jimmie more than I did. Again, professional opinion to be respected.
Mary - Much as Mia, she's a Jimmie Lover tonight and quite nearly gave them a Mary Scream.
Nigel - Disagreed with Mia and agrees with me. Yay! It's Fox, Nigel, just say "FUCK" not "Fun". "Oh hell, that was fun!" I'll agree with that. It was fun.

Sarah and Jesús:
She's been a dancer since she was 4, but four years ago she saw b-boy girls and fell for it. Jesús is a dancer because he can have the "ability to be free" to express himself. Wade gave them a very wild routine last week. Shauna got off on it. Jesús was nervous, but you can tell that after he got the results he realised that he did well. Tonight we get to see a Paso Doble. Neither of them are partner dancers and they're training with Mr. Crazy himself, Jean-Paul. JP explains the dance. Sarah says that Jesús will help her. Jesús tells us that he knows not much more than he's supposed to spin and stick his butt out. I'm

Wardrobe Wench Strikes Again:
"We Will Rock You (remix)" by Queen - weird choice. I want this music. Tell me somebody has it. He looks like a half-undressed matador. Odd, but Sarah looks beautiful, I must say. WW got a woman right tonight. Well, 1 out of 9 can't be all that bad.

Sling That Cape:
I'll give them this, they're expressive. Jesús' arms are spread wide and they're both trying for it. I think they're struggling at first, but the more we go on the more I see that they're hitting their marks. This is the oddest Paso I've ever seen, but the choreography is wild. I think on two more experienced Latin dancers this would look spectacular. On these two kids it's looking a little raw. Maybe with another week of practice. Jean-Paul looks proud. Tyce looks confused. I'm not too sure.

And now ...:
Mia - Awkward is her watchword. She thought the music was fighting the movement. She thought Jesús was "fabulous". "Sarah, you were kind of all over the place. Have you had any professional training?" "No" "In that case, you were fabulous." *nod*
Mary - Liked the out of the box, but she thought the routine was great and that they did an amazing job with the choreography. Loved her some Jesús.
Nigel - Far more impressed with Sarah's carriage and progress than he was Jesús. He expected Jesús to be good.

Recap: Neil was impressive, Loved Pasha and Jessee, Hok seemed bo be the stronger of the pair, Dom and Sabra both were great. She's amazing. If the music were off I'd've liked Kameron and Lacy more. Hidden Waltz: Shitting Ballgown. Stepping wasn't as tight upon review. Paso was better in retrospect.

Rankings: Difficult, top ... Pretenders, bottom ... Elvis.

Bonus: Freestyle from Hok. Cool. Attitude from Dominic. Suave.

I know you all hate it when I review this show, so you can all skip this if you want. I hope you read it though! I love you all and crave attention.

About 30 of us are here at one of M's house watching So You Think You Can Dance on a projector that's aimed at, and I shit you not, an 18-foot tall wall. This house is huge and gorgeous. I want vaulted ceilings in my house when I buy. Mixed group of deaf and hearing folks and the TV's hooked up to the stereo-system so it can pump enough wattage through the speakers that I bet you can hear it down the block. But hell, it has to be loud and full of base so half of the folks here can feel the bass and rhythm. M and a few others have turned down their hearing aids and I am jealous of that ability for once! Who cares though? This is gonna be fun.

Here we go. It's time for the show.

Performers:
Anya / Cedric / Ashlee / Danny - OMFG COCKY / Faina / Dominic / Jaime / Hok! - OMFG HE FINALLY MADE IT / Jessi / Jesus / Lacey - OMFG WHERE DID YOU GET SUCH SHITTY TASTE IN CLOTHING / Jimmy / Lauren / Kameron - OMFG SPORTING JAYMEZ'S HAIRDO WITH RED STRIPES / Sabra - OMFG HOTASS FRO / Neil - OMFG HOT / Sara / Pasha / Shauna / Ricky - OMFG CREEPY

Okay kids, good luck. But don't get too attached because two of you are going home tomorrow.

Judges:
Dan Karaty - OMFG GO AWAY YOU HACK
Mary Murphy - OMFG IT'S LIKE PLAYING "BITCH IS HIGH" WITH PAULA ABDUL
Nigel Lithgoe - OMFG SNARK MASTER

Quick Recap: Everybody dances. People cry. People scream. People jump. Mary screams. Nigel grimaces. The deaf people in the room with me look relieved to be deaf watching that display. EDIT: M says he is. Hehe!

Up first, Jaime Goodwin, a lyrical/contemporary dancer, and Hokuto "Hok" Kanishi, a B-boy with l33t skillz who made it on his third try, and they're so lucky to work with Shayne Sparks. Jaimie says she's nervous about hip-hop; she doesn't know how to make some of the non-smooth movements.

Tambourine by Eve. HA! As expected, Hok stole the show. I couldn't take my eyes off of Hok. He was outstanding and Jaime really tried. Like Mary said, she didn't really keep up with Hok, but she did try. Nigel dissed Shayne something awful, said he cut down the choreography to help Jaime out and Shayne laughed his ass off. "Oh my GAWD! HA!" Awesome. Nigel thinks that Jamie kept up with Hok, but if she did, it really was because Shayne helped her out with the

Anya Garnis and Danny Tidwell (Travis' brother). Anya's a hot, hot, hot ballroom dancer: sex in dance shoes. Danny's a beautiful dancer, poetry in motion, but who knows how he'll do when not in his lyrical dance style ... especially when they're dancing a Jive. Personally, I can't stand pure jive. I really think that Anya will be able to get this better than him. Anya's a perfectionist and Danny was picking it up too slowly. Let's see how this goes.

Anya and Danny are going to jive to Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne ... Interesting choice. Anya reminds me or Heidi, full of energy and fast feet. Brilliant and very Tina Turner with those awesome legs. Danny is doing a better job than I thought he would. This being the first show I think they're all trying to make sure America notices them. He kept up with her on the footwork as far as I could tell and the back-split-drop was nicely done. Judges say: Dan "effortless" and that Danny's lucky to dance with Anya, Mary "took my breath away" "amazing" "hot tamale train" for Anya "proud" of Danny and had good positive critiques for him. Nigel says that Danny did a great job and kept up with Anya and thinks that he did a great job and that Anya is a born performer and a wonderful technical grasp. I can't help but to agree.

Now it's Lacy and Kameron, Benji's little sister - youth swing and youth Latin champion, and a guy who has a hideous red and black Mohawk. Dude, your stylist made you look like a hot mess; you best be a good dancer or that's going to distract me. Lacy joked that she's a "swing, and ballroom dancer. And a professional crumper" ha! That was funny. Yeah, girl, you are a goofball. Kameron's eyebrow ring is sexy and he dances a mix of contemporary and hip-hop and a little b-boy. He's got a red star in his hair because he's a "star". Oh dear Lord.

And now they're dancing a Mia Michael routine. Good goddamn she's gonna kill them with movements their bodies have never even had to do. Lacy isn't used to being technically incorrect because Mia's style is so far away from her norm.

Dancing by Elisa, a wonderful song and so beautiful. Kameron has got Mia's style and vision in his soul. Oh my god. That was gorgeous. Lacy may not be the best contemporary dancer, but this brought a tear to my eyes. Holy buggering crap. Ir so reminds me of Ivan and Allison's dance to Annie Lennox last season. I'm not the only one here crying. Mia is proud as hell and so is Benji. Dan said that Kameron was a prop, but honestly, I liked Kameron. Dan's always a dickhead and we want him to be hit by a truck. WHY is he here? Mary loves him and they gave her goose flesh. Lacy really was a surprise. Nigel loved Lacy and Kameron, too.

Mia rocks. We love her. This one, just like Ivan and Allison's will probably be in my top 10 of the season. We'll just have to see.

Sabra Johnson (not-so-much-a-Dutch-name FTW) who has some of the bet natural hair I've seen lately and Dominick Sandoval who's a little short to be dancing with a tall drink of water like Sabra are going to give us some old-school disco. Dominick is a breaker who rocked the LA auditions and Sabra blew out the NYC auditions. Mia wants to knock him down a peg to help drop down his ego. She may have a point, but her dancers already know they're good and they know to LISTEN.

Doriana, the Disco Queen, is back. Oh look! Pointy John Travolta Fingers and last season's lifts. All set to No More Tears by Donna Summer, a wicked song. Thankfully I didn't have to hear the Streisand part. Starts out a little sultry with a nice lift and jams into a classic disco groove. Good, but forgettable. Dom's b-boy and Sabra's legs got their own showcase, but I don't think this was the best they could have been. Wow, I agree with Dan. That hurts. Mary liked it, thought it "was really, really good" and I think she knows. Much better than me. She "really enjoyed it". Nigel says that since he's worked with a partner for 5 days and was really impressed. They changed my mind a little, but it's not my favourite so far. I hope they're okay next week because Sabra impresses me.

We're back after dreadful adverts and treated to Ashlee Langas and Ricky Palamino. Dunno why she came to Chicago instead of the Atlanta auditions since she's from Texas, but maybe she missed the deadline? Who knows. She's got great lines and turns. Mia's all over her like white on rice. Ricky Palimino frightens me a little. He has a pedo-smile and a lunatic mind, but the boy can dance. And he dances like a dream. They're dreaming with Alex de Silva and doing another sexy Argentine Tango. Remember the Ivan Allison tango? Yup, that hot. NO! Not the first one ya dolts, the second one where Ivan worked her across that floor like a 5-dolla-a-thro-ho.

Sentimeiento Tangura by a guy I didn't catch and OMG could she be wearing less clothes? I'm always so jealous of the bodies these guys have. I should start dancing. Interesting leaps, good kicks, good movements on her part for the most of it but something about Ricky's lines on his legs when NOT extended bugged me, almost like he was squatting. Judges weren't terribly impressed. "Gotcha" kick! "Actually she got me in the right spot." Nice one, Ricky. They may be in the bottom three couples tomorrow.

Jesus Soloria, sexy as hell, and Sara Von Gillern, an awesome breaker girl and snowboarder who got through on choreography! of all things because she's had a lot of other training. Jesus may be gay? Who knows, but it doesn't matter. His dancing is beautiful. Gorgeous. Just amazing. And they're going to be dancing with WADE MOTHERFUCKING ROBSON! Yeah bitches! Here he goes with his insane brain. Shabby homeless vagabond cabaret pop jazz. Nobody but Wade, guys. Nobody.

He's a little crazy.

Cabaret Hoover from a soundtrack I've never heard of. Nice opening but they're a little off from each other. Remember though, they've never danced with partners either, so I can see how this could be a little difficult for them. Her movements were really impressive. Who says breakers can't pick up complex choreography? I didn't like the props a lot, but they sort of worked in the end. Wade's style is, as always, just weird, but it's always so damn entertaining. That was nifty. No, NO, NOOOO! Dan, we have seen Wade's styles before. Ramalama and Sexyback from last season, just like this one, really show off just how special he is. Just like Mia. They're both innovative and impressive.

Mary and Nigel loved them and so did I. Wade, as always, has that serious face on and you can tell that he's happy with their performance.

Dude! So much signing going on here at the So You Can Think You Can Dance party. I'm losing my mind and laughing my ass off. I'm seeing the word "awesome" and "dance" and that's about it. I just said to (crap, forget his name), "awesome dance" and he's now laughing at me too. HA! Folks are getting a kick that I'm actually blogging the dancing action as we go along. This is going to have to be a public entry. Everybody wants to read it. I'm a superstar! If you're reading this, there better be comments, bitches! Y'all hear me?! Read me? Whatever! :P

Jessi Parelta - sexy event planner with the baby oil stomach that made Nigel get a cum towel - is dancing with Pasha Kovalev - Anya's hot Russian dance partner that made Mary's panties juicier than a kiwi - are dancing together. This better be good. I've got high hopes for the both of them.

Oh crap. A smooth waltz. Travis and Heidi did this last year and it was HARD for Travis, a lyrical dancer. I think that maybe Pasha can pick this up. In fact, I know he could. Ballroom dancers can do this, but poor Jessi, a hip-hopish contemporary-y dancer, isn't as confident. She says "We're going to go home and pray", to which Pasha replies, "We're going to go home and practice!" hehe

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones has a smooth and sensual melody and rhythm that works well with this style. Well, Norah is just a smooth and flowing kinda music anyway. She's got that fall-into-your-arms-and-just-sway-with-me quality to her voice.

As we predict, Pasha is gliding across the floor. Is anyone surprised? Not at all. But Jessi is surprising us. That's for sure. She's melting into him and really getting into the bends and turns and toe/footwork. That was really beautiful. Again, I hate Dan because he and I agree. Then again, Mary thinks that they were technically wonderful. Oh! They got a Mary Scream (R)(TM)! Nigel appreciates the entire thing. Pasha. Jessi. Great. She's radiant in that gown. He's easy on the eyes, too.

I want to dance that at my wedding. So far, this may be my second favourite couple.

Cedric Gardner, a 22-year old hip-hop dancer with a little bit of whatever he wants to put into his movements (not a good partner), and Faina Savich (Stanislav's little sister), another ballroom dancer who strikes me as a Drama Bomb are going to be dancing one of Shayne's routines. This is what killed Stanislav last years. Shayne's got fire and he Snaps. Every. Movement. He's not impressed. Neither of them are getting his movements.

Nigel didn't want Cedrick in the Top 20.

Get Is Shawty by Lloyd - not my favourite hip hop song of all time. Not even in the top 500. This routine is obviously one of Shayne's productions. yup, they're having a little trouble with it, Faiana more than Cedric. This reminds me of ... well, I can't think of a routine last year where a girl blew a hip-hop routine this badly. Not. Good. Darling. Cedric was better. Really good, in fact. He's got great eyes too, soulful.

Know that old saying about the South? When someone says "Bless her heart" how something not good At. All. will follow? I said to M, "Bless her heart but ... that wasn't good.''

Neil Haskell, who just very well may be the sexiest man I've seen in ages, is some kind of contemporary dancer. At only 19 he makes me feel like a creepy old man. My god, I want him in my bed. He's paired with another lyrical/hip-hop dancer, Lauren Gottleib, a dance instructor who helped Tyce Diorio last season with the more jazzy, lyrical, and contemporary pieces.

They're learning one of Alex de Silva's routines and are, as Lauren described accurately, "a hot mess." Oh lord they had best practice.

Friday Night Rhythm is their music and they're trying their best. They've certainly got the sex appeal going for them. Some nice tricks and spins. I can't help but to compare this to Benji and Heidi's killer performance of the same style in the finals last year. It pales in comparison. Dan's being a cunt. Says that Neil wasn't "into" Lauren enough. I think he was probably concentrating on footwork. I mean, he's a lyrical dancer, so maybe that's why. They were technically pretty good, but not all that hot. Maybe Mary and Nigel are right. They're the ballroom choreographers and should know. I should listen to them.

I don't care; I want these two to continue on to next week. I really like them both, in their personal styles and together.

I am so sick of adverts. And that "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader" show? No, they aren't, because you pick dumbasses!

Shauna Noland and Jimmy Arguello are going to do a Broadway number by Tyce Diorio. I never really liked Broadway. Too Fossey! Fossey! for me. The only remotely Broadway routine I liked last year was Donyelle and Benji's where she had the big yellow puffy dress and he had that horrible blue shirt and yellow tie. All the others annoyed me. So, if I say something horrible about these two, I'm afraid that it will be coloured by my extreme dislike of the style.

Shauna's young, only 18, and she's some kind of ballet/modern/contemporary blend and Jimmy Arguello is another contemporary/lyrical stylist. Both were in the Atlanta group and Nigel likes his style. Oh crap. Tyce is making this some weird-ass jumping-around, gyrating oddness dance.

Ease On Down The Road is the music and it's Michael Jackson's Scarecrow and Diana Ross' Dorothy who are on stage now. There seem to be a lot of disco elements in the routine and some great incorporation of her lines and spins and Jimmy's flexibility and strength. That's always nice to see; the choreographers really try to incorporate what the dancers can actually do really well into the routines. Even Mia, who's able to make dancers do things they don't know they can do, uses their strengths as well as their weaknesses.

It was "fun and energetic" for Mary, and me too. I hate Broadway, but this was kind of fun. I didn't love it. I didn't hate it either. I can appreciate it, so that's good.

Recap of all the dancers. Let's see if I remember them tomorrow though. Showing Kameron and Lacy again made my breath catch. People on the Internet are afraid that her being Benji's sister will get her votes just because of that. After tonight, I think they'll see that if she keeps up the strength and talent she showed in Mia's routine that she'll deserve her spot on this show. Faina brought Cedric down. Lauren and Neil tried, but weren't that great. Hok and were good, but not as good as some of the others. Dammit, I think I may like Jimmie and Shauna in retrospect.

Ranking in my ever-so-non-dancer opinion? I don't think I can really do that too much tonight. It's difficult and there are too many of them. I know which one I loved the best: Lacy and Kameron. Like I said, if she keeps that up she'll shut everybody up with their "She's only there because of Benji! Wah! Wah! I'm a hater! Travis Was Robbed!" crap. I liked Danny and Anya and also Jessi and Pasha. Everybody else was either okay or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. I think that Jesus and Sara were good as well, and I really want Sabra to stick around. Poor Faina really struggled with hip-hop; if she makes it through tomorrow's cut, she better practice some other styles harder than she ever has before. I don't like Ricky's personality, but I think he's a good technical dancer. Shauna could have been better and Jimmy surprised me.

Dunno ... I'm just overwhelmed tonight. I know that I want to cry when I saw Mia's routine. Tyce's Annie Lennox routine with Allison and Ivan from last season as well as Mia's bench routine to Calling You with Travis and Heidi were two of my absolute favourites and this performance by Lacey and Kameron was so reminiscent of those two pieces of art.

jkpolk, what do you think?

I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow to watch Top Chef. It's the first episode and we're all still partying and watching SYTYCD again.

Neck again

I can't turn my head left, up, or down. It's never hurt this much in my life. I took a Skelaxin and a couple of ibuprofen and am doing with the doctor said: sitting with my spine straight as a board and doing circles with my neck very, VERY slowly. Hurts like hell. Glad I followed his advice and took today off. Geez.

Also, I fell asleep on the toilet after I took that damn skelaxin. I don't want to take that again. :-(

Tá Béarla ag breith bairr ar Gaelige i Éire (Baile Átha Claith ar aon nós)?

Given that Irish was granted Official Language Status this week, the following excerpts from a television show titled No Béarla (to be shown on TG4 this spring) are all the more disturbing. Ireland claims that 25% of the population speaks Irish at a comprehensive level. Truth told, perhaps only 3% of the population can use it fluently and as a first language.

I need to practice. A lot. So very rusty.

One of the most disturbing things about this first video is the very hostile (very hostile) treatment he receives in Dublin from government workers, shopkeepers, barkeeps, etc. when speaking in Irish. The travel agency - where he finally can communicate in French, to his obvious dismay - was the worst. After the travel agent cops an attitude someone else backs him up and says ''Béarla only.'' Béarla = English. Tacky. Some of this hostility may be hold-over from when Irish was second-class, low-class.

Singing the filthiest lyrics EVER, and getting little ladies just smiling and nodding along:

Trying to chat up the ladies; even the striapach teileafóni turned him down.

The bit when buying the condoms ... cóta báistí!

Jake 2.0 is a very cool show. Why didn't I watch it when it was on? Now I have to settle for SciFi Network re-runs. Bugger. It only ran 16 episodes, too.

THE FILTHIEST IRISH SONG IN THE WORLD
In the summer of 2006 Manchán Magan travelled around Ireland seeing could he make himself understood through Irish. As part of his journey he went busking on the streets of Galway singing the filthiest lyrics he could think of to see if anyone would understand.
Here below is a translation of the lyrics. Apologies if they cause offence, fortunately no one was able to understand them in Galway and thus no offense was caused.

THE FILTHIEST IRISH SONG IN THE WORLD
Show me your cunt, young girl. Show me your breasts.
Show me your tits, here on the street.
Let’s fuck here on the street just like dogs.
Oh, let’s fuck just like dogs.
I feel horny. Feel like screwing, feel like riding.
Oh let’s fuck here on the street.

Just like dogs, just like dogs.
Let me rub you, let me ride you,
Let me fuck you here on the street.
Let me fist fuck you.
Let me fuck you here on the street.
To stroke you and ride you, to beat our skin together, here on the street.

Let’s fuck, I say. Like the dogs
Let’s fuck here on the street.

posted by Irish Media at 3:58 PM
