    When people undergo surgical interventions for orthopedic injuries 👉🏽 physical therapy is always prescribed afterwards (sometimes before)! The same should be true for pelvic surgeries given the complex + crucial functioning of the #pelvicfloor, but this isn't always the case 😬

    Now that you understand #dermatomes - Here is insight into which #nerve roots are responsible for sensation in our #pelvis. As you can see, the majority of sensation in our💫genitals 💫perineum💫bony pelvis💫upper thighs comes from the lumbar & sacral spinal nerve roots!

    Knowledge of #pelvicpain conditions is improving though we know not fast enough. There are clusters of diagnoses that are now being referred to by researchers & the @NIH as Chronic Overlapping Pain Conditions. #Vulvodynia #endometriosis #chronicpain #IBS

    A whopping 73% of women don't technically know what a #vulva is! ⁣Many use “vagina” as the catch-all phrase, but this can muddle the correct terminology! ⁣😱

    📣#CPPS PSA📣⁣ The majority of young men diagnosed with #prostatitis do NOT have a prostate infection. They do have urinary urgency/frequency/pain, post-ejaculatory pain, perineal pain and/or penile pain. ⁣Over 95% of men with these symptoms have #pelvicfloordysfunction.

    If you didn't know- your #pelvicfloor muscles 🦾 supports your pelvic organs! The pelvic floor muscles run from your pubic bone back to your tailbone. They support your pelvic organs and are also responsible for urinary bowel and sexual function.

    The Obturator Internus muscles makes a 90 degree angle around our sit bones, it is innervated by the obturator nerve, and it forms part of Alcock’s Canal which houses the pudendal nerve.
