- traditional parimutuel positions are one-way. you enter the pool, then wait for settlement. but modern traders expect to sell, manage risk, exit early, or change their mind as new information arrives. the PMM fixes this.

- in parimutuels, being early does not guarantee your payout. later capital can enter the same pool and dilute your payout from $100 to $1. fine for simple betting pools that can close before the event starts. a problem for modern traders who expect real-time price discovery.
