I am baffled by the court ruling today. “Can you find me a quiet place to pray at lunch; I won’t be missing any lessons?” This is a reasonable request and so very easy to accommodate - schools all over the country do so. It should never have become an issue.

The pupil chose the school knowing its secular policy. The pupil’s argument that there is a requirement to pray was found to not be true, instead there is recognised remedy for missed prayers in Islam. judiciary.uk/wp-content/upl…

I am hearing some very worrying reports from headteachers about the current surge in COVID cases. This needs to be picked up by the media - it’s bad @BBCNewsnight @Channel4News

Dear world - please judge us by our cave divers and not by our politicians.

Messages from heads and schools I work with today all the same - overwhelmed by cases. Messages coming from govt appear to be ‘everything back to normal soon’. I don’t understand this.

The kids waiting for their A-level results have had a terrible 2 years, are already hugely anxious and now the media are winding them up to believe their results are somehow undeserved and they are have a ‘battle’ to face. Appalling behaviour.

I am alarmed that the shortage of lorry drivers means they are making them drive for longer shifts, and I am alarmed that the pressure on NHS means they are stopping them isolating. Is no-one else noticing these things?

It’s not a relatively short period of school closure that causes disadvantage. It is poverty that causes it. Schools do their best to level the playing field but can’t when poverty is increased and other services cut. This crisis is bringing that into sharp focus. #Newsnight

I hate to tweet this but feel I need to: This lockdown will not bring R rate down when schools have so many ‘key worker and vulnerable’ students in. One example, typical of what I’m hearing is numbers have risen from 15 in first lockdown to over 70 now.

Started to occasionally wear full makeup again. What do you think Twitter? Worth the bother?

So amongst all the other stuff we have a school minister who: Thinks INSET Days are designed as ‘a rest’ Doesn’t understand parental permission is required for administering tests Doesn’t know DBS checks are required or how long they take That interview went well.

Just imagine for one minute the mincemeat Blair and Brown would be making of this shower ......

There are not enough words for how much I despise this PM. Implying that education leaders don’t want schools to open is beyond belief when they have remained open throughout despite appalling and contradictory govt advice. What next? Blame the doctors for people dying?

In contrast to the writer here, I have 20 years of headship experience in the most challenging contexts. Although logistically problematic, I could make it work and there would be no collapse of discipline! This article is ridiculous and dangerous.

I expect there will be a new announcement on school closure over the weekend, but if there isn’t I suspect a truly chaotic week ahead as LAs and Trusts take matters into their own hands to protect children and staff. Leadership is desperately needed.
