We equip our students with the skills and mindset required to navigate and address the challenges of both today and tomorrow.
To achieve this, we have developed a comprehensive competency framework encompassing five key transformative areas and their associated sub-competencies. This approach fosters a holistic and transformative education that not only enhances student learning but also positively impacts the wider world.
Additionally, we have formulated the Global Education Forum (GEF) Manifesto, which serves as a strategic roadmap, guiding our role as a leading institution in global education. This vision is realised through concrete actions in our classrooms, ensuring that SEK students acquire the necessary tools to succeed in an ever-evolving world.
The Future Learning Model (FLM) is SEK's pedagogical framework—a comprehensive approach built around nine key elements that define the learning we value and nurture across all stages and programmes in our schools.
The FLM has emerged from a thorough review of our Intelligent Classroom concept and the insights gained during the lockdown period, when online learning led us to explore new methodological formats and digital tools. It redefines the purpose of school as a 'place' for broader, more connected learning that is responsive to the needs of the SEK Educational Community.
Within this framework, SEK reaffirms its commitment to experiential and collaborative learning through the Learning Outside-In project, developed in partnership with Project Zero, a research centre at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. This project invites students to learn in non-school environments—such as museums, ports, or urban gardens—fostering curiosity, agency, enjoyment, and a sense of belonging. The active involvement of teachers, families, and the local community in designing learning paths transforms these spaces into meaningful learning experiences that strengthen both academic competencies and students' overall well-being.
SEK International Schools offer a continuum of International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes for students aged 3 to 18, including the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP).
The IB mission emphasises student-centred education, fostering international-mindedness and a balanced, conceptual, and interconnected approach to learning. The culminating experiences of each programme—the PYP Exhibition, the MYP Personal Project, and the DP Extended Essay—enable students to demonstrate their acquired knowledge, skills, and competencies.
Multilingualism is a hallmark of our schools, and we provide opportunities for students to acquire additional languages, both within the curriculum and through extracurricular activities, including international experiences at SEK Dublin and SEK Les Alpes.
SEK students consistently achieve exceptional results in national and international university entrance examinations, as well as academic distinctions from prestigious institutions. These include Honours Awards for Baccalaureate, the Alfonso Ussía Award for Student of the Year, and top national leaving scores in Spain.
Additionally, our students excel in internationally recognised language proficiency exams (Cambridge, Goethe, Alliance Française) and attain remarkable scores in the IB Diploma Programme, with some earning the maximum grade of 45, the highest global mark.
All SEK students completing the IB Diploma Programme obtain an American High School Diploma, facilitating admission to leading universities in the United States, and around the world.
Our educators are experienced, innovative, and deeply passionate about learning and teaching. They serve as mediators, guides, and mentors, identifying students’ strengths and areas for growth, fostering meaningful knowledge acquisition, and promoting the application of learning across disciplines.
SEK teachers actively contribute to international educational conferences (IB, NEASC, ECIS, and others) and lead numerous applied research projects.
To support collaborative planning and professional development, all schools dedicate time to faculty training and innovation, allowing educators to design micro-innovations that enhance classroom learning. These initiatives are shared with the broader educational community through the annual SEK Symposium and the MySEK Playbook.
SEK International Schools also benefit from an academic partnership with Camilo José Cela University, enriching both teacher development and student learning.
At SEK Education Group, students are at the heart of our educational mission. To provide a personalised, blended, and technology-enhanced learning environment, SEK integrates over twenty digital tools that facilitate communication, collaboration, scientific experimentation, and self-assessment for the whole learning community.
MySEK Educativo serves as a customised virtual workspace, placing students at the centre of their own learning journeys. Our curriculum also integrates STEAM education, ensuring that students engage with Maker environments and problem-solving challenges using state-of-the-art technologies.
Beyond academic excellence, we promote holistic learning, encouraging students to pursue their passions in sports, the arts, and other areas of interest during designated school hours.
To support this, we have established Empowerment Hubs, time slots that allow students to explore diverse fields of study and personal interests.
SEK International Schools integrate art, music, drama, and sports into the curriculum, with a strong focus on well-being and emotional intelligence. Our well-being programme is developed in collaboration with the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence (YCEI) and incorporates the RULER approach to social and emotional learning.
Our students engage in a wide range of co-curricular activities that foster personal and leadership development, including:
