Day 4 - Favorite Elijah Mikaelson Scene?

I have a couple, actually, much like my favorite Elena scenes. Again, I'm trying to keep these Elena/Elijah specific.

The hall-way scene in 3.14

The little arm stroke. It was just perfect. ♥

3.15

Elijah lures Elena into the forest (and I just feel like Elena knew something was up) and then questions her - knowing she'd sign his and his family's death sentences but wanting to hear it from her - and traps her in a cave with his homicidal sister in order to save his family.

And then when all is said and done, he leaves Elena a ~~fucking love~~ letter, knowing she understood why he did what he did (and understanding perfectly why Elena did what she did), and promises he'll carry his regret of his treatment of her 'always and forever.' ♥

Then of course, there's 3.22, where he offers to take his family on the run from a psychotic vampire hunter intent on destroying them all, just so Elena can live out a normal life. He's willing to run and hide for 50+ years (remember how he promised to keep Klaus dessicated until even after she dies so that her descendents won't be bothered?) just so Elena can live in peace. He's risking his own life AND HIS FAMILY'S LIVES for Elena. ♥

Day 3 - Favorite Elena Gilbert Scene?

I'm going to keep this Elena/Elijah specific, even though Elena has many, many moments I love (and usually lead to the fandom hating on her, but fandom is terrible and lacks correct opinions, so whatever).

ELENA STABBING ELIJAH IN 2.15

I feel like this is pretty self-explanatory, but some may not. Elena is so devious in this episode. She gives Elijah an ultimatum, and he calls her bluff. Which was a mistake because Elena does. not. bluff. If she says she's going to stab herself, SHE'S GOING TO FUCKING STAB HERSELF. (Klaus was somewhat more up on things in 3.21, which still didn't end well for him, but w/e.) Elijah made the mistake of underestimating her, and he paid for it by getting himself daggered at Elena's hands. ♥

And then there's also that time where Elena stabs ~~her future sister-in-law~~ Rebekah, after gaining her trust.

FUCK I JUST LOVE ELENA AND SHARP OBJECTS, OKAY? IT MAKES ME HAPPY.

Also the whole of 2.19 wherein Elena becomes the proud new owner of an original vampire. And again in 3.14 where she signs Elijah's death sentence and lies to his face about it because she really wants his brother dead so her loved ones will be safe.

ELENA/ELIJAH APPRECIATION WEEK 2012 - DAY 1

Day 1 - First moment you started shipping Elena/Elijah?

Oh boy.

Well, I was definitely intrigued by their first meeting in 2.08 Rose. I'm a sucker for sketchy chemistry (when it's not being presented as ~true love~ and not framed as romantically acceptable) and these two had it in spades.

See? Sketchy as fuck, but also intriguing and one day I'll freaking analyze this scene until my eyes bleed, but not today.

But the defining moment where I was like YES. THIS IS MY TVD SHIP. THIS IS THE SHIP THAT I WANT. was in 2.11 By the Light of the Moon when Elijah and Elena strike their first deal. I just... PERFECTION. PERFECTION UPON MY SCREEN. When Elijah offered Elena the deal in season 2, I kind of melted - first from the fact that yes, that scene was tense and Elijah was a freaking troll and I’m a sucker for sketchy chemistry and OMG this all started in 2.08, but more importantly from the fact that HERE IS A VAMPIRE WHO IS RESPECTING ELENA AND IS ACCEPTS THAT SHE CAN MAKE HER OWN CHOICES.

Elijah: Hey gurl. Your bros tried to kill me, nbd.
Elena: The fuck?
Elijah: Surprise!
Elena: Fuck.

Elijah: Forgive the intrusion. I mean your family no harm.

Elena: Why did you kill those vampires when they tried to take me?

Elijah: Because I didn’t want you to be taken. Klaus is the most feared and hated of the originals but those that fear him are desperate for his approval. If word gets out that the doppelganger exists there’ll be a line of vampires eager to take you to him and I can’t have that.

Elena: Isn’t that exactly what you’re trying to do?

Elijah: Let’s just say that my goal is not to break the curse.

Elena: So what is your goal?

Elijah: Klaus’s obsession has made him paranoid. He’s a recluse. He trusts only those in his immediate circle.

Elena: Like you?

Elijah: Not anymore.

Elena: You don’t know where he is, do you? So you’re trying to use me to draw him out.

Elijah: Well, to do that I need you to stay put and stop trying to get yourself killed.

Elena: How do I know you’re telling the truth?

Elijah: If I wasn’t being truthful, all your family would be dead and I’d be taking you to Klaus right now. Instead, I’m here and I’m preparing to offer you a deal.

Elena: What kind of a deal?

Elena sees RIGHT THROUGH Elijah; Elijah needs her. And there's the beginning of the thought that he could be of use to her - and Elena will absolutely use people when it suits her purposes. Elena is good at reading people and she can actually read Elijah.

Elijah: Do nothing. Do nothing, live your life, stop fighting and then, when the time is right, you and I should draw out Klaus together and I should make sure your friends remain unharmed.

Elena: And then what?

Elijah: Then I kill him.

Elena: Just like that?

Elijah: Just like that. I’m a man of my word, Elena. I make a deal, I keep a deal.

Elena: How are you gonna be able to keep everybody safe?

Elijah: I notice you have a friend Bonnie, is it? She seems to possess the gift of magic. I have friends with similar gifts.

Elena: You know witches.

Elijah: Together we can protect everybody that matters to you. So do we have a deal?

Elena: I need you to do one more thing for me.

Elijah: We're negotiating now?

And it has this gorgeous moment:

Elena, after being treated pretty craptastically in this episode (and ugh anyone who says "it's for her own good"), makes a deal with Elijah, an Original who TERRIFIES her, because he offers her a way to keep everyone she loves safe. Her friends went behind her back and BY FUCK SHE DID IT TOO BUT WITH MORE FLARE AND DEVIOUSNESS THAN THEY COULD EVER HOPE TO ACHIEVE. Elena, despite being considered helpless by her friends, ended up owning her agency in this episode and doing what needed to be done, and Elijah was a huge factor in that.

So basically I started shipping them in 2.11, which was later solidified to OTP status when Elena stabbed herself to trick Elijah so that she could stab him. ♥

Day 4: My Favorite Elena Gilbert Ship

ELENA/ELIJAH

Elijah approaches Elena as an equal. He respects her and after their initial meeting, never talks down to her. He doesn’t take her choices away from her or try to control her. He's chill with her making her own decisions, knowing they could hurt her or him. And he understands why she makes the choices she makes, because he would make the same ones. And I think that Elena understands that, even if she can’t articulate it. I definitely believe it’s one of the reasons why Elena felt so much guilt over her actions mid season 3, because she sees in Elijah a kindred spirit.

And honestly, the equality in the Elejah relationship is possibly my favorite part of it - with all the bullshit on television where the girl is expected to sit back and let the men tell her what to do and how to think and control her every move, it’s GLORIOUS to see a relationship (not necessarily romantic - YET) where the guy is cool with the girl owning her agency and respecting the fact that she’s a human being who can make her own decisions. Those decisions may end up hurting, but I’d rather see the girl make them as opposed to being told what to do. I’m a big fan of female characters with agency and I feel that Elena owns her agency the most when she’s around Elijah.

When Elijah offered Elena the deal in season 2, I kind of melted - first from the fact that yes, that scene was tense and Elijah was a freaking troll and I’m a sucker for sketchy chemistry and OMG this all started in 2.08, but more importantly from the fact that HERE IS A VAMPIRE WHO IS RESPECTING ELENA AND IS ACCEPTS THAT SHE CAN MAKE HER OWN CHOICES. I liked the idea of it in 2.08 (HELLO SKETCHY CHEMISTRY!) but I fell in love with it after 2.11.

Yes, there’s betrayal and reneging on deals, but what matters to me is that it’s always been done by one of them in order to protect family - and that’s something that they are always going to understand about each other.

I guess, there's just this old soul connection between them. Elena and Elijah would do (and have done) ANYTHING to keep their loved ones safe (even if characters have a habit of denying Elena's agency and disregarding her wishes to keep her from following through and then blaming her afterwards), and can be downright ruthless in order to do it and I think that might be part of what draws them together. I think Elijah sees in Elena all the things he's held dear from being a human and that Elena sees in Elijah the qualities she wasn't sure a vampire could still possess.

Simply put, Elena and Elijah just get each other. And I love that about them.

I REALLY LIKE THESE TWO TOGETHER A LOT, OKAY?

AND THERE WAS THAT TIME IN 3.22 WHERE HE WAS TOTALLY COOL WITH FORCING HIS FAMILY TO GO ON THE RUN FROM A PSYCHOTIC VAMPIRE HUNTER SO ELENA COULD HAVE A CHANCE AT A HUMAN LIFE. ♥

AND NOW THERE'S POTENTIAL (in my head, at least) FOR ELENA AND ELIJAH TO JUST FUCKING SNAP AND KILL EVERYONE AND LICK THE BLOOD OFF OF EACH OTHERS' BODIES.

Day 3: My Favorite AU Elena Gilbert Scenario(s)

3) Elena is a gothic novelist in Regency London. Scoffing at the advances of a pair of asshole brothers, she prefers to write about dark creatures and thrilling twists. She meets a reclusive lord, who inspires her to write a story about a vampire. The two of them grow closer as Elena draws upon for inspiration and just when he reveals his true nature as a vampire, she reveals she's supernatural as well - and is in complete control of the dynamic.

2) Elena says "fuck you" to the Salvatrolls, takes Jeremy, and moves to New York. The two of them are more-or-less adopted by an awesome NYPD detective and her novelist/police consultant boyfriend.

1) Elena chooses to become a vampire, has hot Original sex with the Originals, and manipulates her way into Original vampire status because she's THAT ruthless. Elena learns to adjust to life as a vampire with the help of her new, dysfunctional Original family. (And has ALL the sex with Elijah. And pranks the fuck out of Kol.)

5. Pilot - Elena writes in her diary

Dear diary, today will be different. It has to be. I will smile, and it will be believable. My smile will say "I'm fine, thank you." "Yes, I feel much better." I will no longer be the sad little girl who lost her parents. I will start fresh, be someone new. It's the only way I'll make it through.

Here's a girl, broken and trying to hold it together. Deciding to lie to everyone in order to lie to herself because she needs to re-write her story because otherwise, she won't be able to hang on.

4. By the Light of the Moon - Elena Negotiates with Elijah

Elena, locked in her own home for her ~protection finds a way to ingratiate herself with a terrifying Original who ultimately, has plans to kill her, and she takes it. She plays Elijah's game and deals - her life (and it's unspoken but she knows) for that of her friends. Oh, she takes it a step further and negotiates to get her boyfriend back as a result. Score 2 for Elena.

3. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Elena Stakes Stefan

Stefan: Elena, wait. You could have let me die in that fire tonight. Why didn't you?

Elena: Because I still have hope.

Stefan: After everything I've done, you... You still think I'll be able to find my humanity again.

Elena: Yes, I do. I know who you really are better than anyone, Stefan. And I'm not giving up.

Stefan: Elena, do you have any idea how pathetic that makes you?

Elena: No, Stefan, it makes me strong.

ANYTIME ELENA PUTS ONE OF THE MANPIRES IN HIS PLACE I AM HAPPY. FUCK YES ELENA STAKE ALL THE MANPIRES.

2. Dangerous Liasons (aka Elena Fucks Over Everyone and I'm So Proud of Her for Doing It) - THE ENTIRE FUCKING EPISODE

Oh, this episode. This fucking episode. I love it. So much. It's just... gah.

Elena has a chance to see what Esther's up to and she takes it, saying "fuck you" to anyone who thinks she shouldn't. She shows up, handles being torn between the manpires with the patience of a saint, and enlists Stefan's help to stop Damon from stopping her. (And thanks to a_white_rain, I basically see this as Elena manipulating Stefan into abusing Damon because Stefan equates abuse with love and what better way to show Elena and Damon that he loves both of them? Which is far from JP's intent, because she's not that deep or awesome but w/e. I've seen loads more fucked-up reasoning in this fandom than my little pet theory, SO... anyhoo.) She tells Elijah (looking swag as fuck, btw) that "of course" she'll let him know what his newly-resurrected mother is up to. And then she helps set in motion a plan to destroy the Originals and lies to Elijah's face about it. ♥ And then, icing on the cake, she takes Damon down a peg, who was being especially gross in this episode. (Thus forever sealing my love of her because the fandom's reaction to Elena's actions in this scene were the worst.) BASICALLY ELENA OWNED EVERYTHING AND I LOVE HER FOR IT. Sure, in 3.15 she was regretting it because of Elijah (and the shipper in me rejoices), but she had a chance to get shit done and she took it.

Also: SHE LOOKED FUCKING STUNNING.

1. Klaus - THE ENTIRE FUCKING EPISODE

FLAWLESS. MY BB ELENA IS FLAWLESS IN THIS EPISODE. MY SWEET BB ELENA BEING ALL POWERFUL AND OWNING HER AGENCY.

Elena undaggers the Original she took out (by stabbing herself to gain his cooperation, no less), because she needs to get shit done. She gets him on her side, sings his praises (more or less) to Stefan while he can hear her and flips their power-dynamic totally on its head. She's calling the shots. Elijah needs HER and he's going to have to work on her terms. And lets not forget that there's the end, where she arrives back at the Salvatroll mansion with Elijah and announces she's found a way. In this episode, ladies and gentleman, Elena becomes the proud new owner of an Original vampire.

Day 1: Why I love Elena Gilbert

~~Because I enjoy pissing off her bashers.~~ No, seriously, Elena is one hell of a character. I don’t need “strong female characters”. I need “female characters with agency,” and Elena really fulfills that ~~when the fandom at large and JP aren’t relegating her to the role of vagina that a Salvatore “deserves” and hating her for not fucking the Salvatore of their choice~~. She’s strong, even when she doesn’t want to be. She’s determined to make her own decisions, even if some of those decisions aren’t the best ~~which is usually because someone else tries to protect her and fucks shit up but Elena gets the blame~~ and even if she sometimes takes choices away from others. She’s compassionate and is able to relate to ANYBODY and thus find (and potentially exploit) their weakness. She’s selfless to the point of selfishness. She DEMANDS that she be taken seriously; she’s not content to let some man push her around or dictate how she lives her life. She’s lost too many people that she cares about and feels responsible - the point where she believes that she deserves to die. She doesn’t want to be saved but will demand that others fight for their lives. When she’s pushed past her breaking point, where she’s too numb to even feel anything, she wakes up, covers up her bite marks, and starts learning how to kill vampires. She’ll lie right to your face if it means her loved ones will be safe. She’ll negotiate the safety of those she loves by offering her own life. And she’ll take away someone’s free will if it means that person will be safe and far away from the clusterfuck that is her life. She’s Elena Fucking Gilbert: Morally Dubious Warrior Princess, and I fucking love her.

And there's this: “Dear Diary, today will be different, it has to be, I will smile and it will be believable. A smile that will say “I am fine, thank you… Yes I feel much better.” I will no longer be the sad little girl who lost her parents, I will start fresh, be someone new. Day 03 - Your Favorite New Who Episode

This was relatively easy, actually.

Honorable Mention

Okay, so sue me: I'M A HOPELESS ROMANTIC AND I LOVE HAPPY ENDINGS. (Kind of makes you go "Why the fuck does she love Joss Whedon and Doctor Who, then???, doesn't it?) The thing is, is that The Big Bang just had so many different things going for it and just wrapped up most of the season so well (apart from "Silence Will Fall").

Amy was Awesome. Rory was Awesome. River was Awesome. Eleven was emotional and old and alien and cool and Awesome.

And the episode gave us THIS:

THIS ALONE MAKES THE EPISODE KIND OF THE ALMOST BEST THING EVER.

My Favorite New Doctor Who Episode: THE END OF THE WORLD

THE END OF THE WORLD

This may seem like a weird choice for some, but for me, this episode pretty much defined Doctor Who for me: science fiction/crack/emotional stuff/going and poking suspicious stuff with sticks/really inconvenient plot devices.

I love so much the things this episode chooses to be. Seriously, I just love it.

It has Rose teasing Nine and it has Nine being clever:

It has Rose and Nine against nice scenic backgrounds and then destroyed scenic backgrounds:

It has cute moments between Rose and Nine and it has slightly psychic paper:

It has Space Trees and it has ~~our first introduction to Jack~~ and Giant Faces In Jars:

It has Rose doing her WTF face and it has Nine being a complete dork:

It has space plumbers and it has space plumbers dying:

It has Rose talking to a twig and it has Nine choosing an interesting way to sit:

It has Rose being frustrated and it has Nine being a douche:

It has Nine and Rose making up and it has Nine and Rose completely ignoring the concept of personal space (jiggery-pokery included, free!):

It has Nine being focused on Rose and it has more Nine being focused on Rose:

And it has even more Nine being focused on Rose and just for good measure, it has some extra Nine being focused on Rose:

It has Rose pwning bitchy trampolines and it has Nine brooding:

It has Rose Wandering Off and it has gratuitous shots of aliens:

It has Rose in peril and it has Nine being heroic:

It has Nine being kind of incompetent and it has Rose snarking back at him:

It has Aliens being suspicious and it has Nine Figuring Shit Out:

It has the Villain being villainous and it has Nine getting snarky:

It has Nine being more heroic and it has the Worst Placed Fix-It Button Ever:

It has the heroic sacrifice and it has Nine being awesome with his Time Lord Mojo:

It has Nine saving the day and the result of Nine saving the day:

It has Rose safe again and it has the fall out:

It has the return of the villain and it has Nine showing no mercy and giving no second chances:

It has Rose being deep and it has Nine offering Rose comfort:

And it has lots of pretty shots of Nine and Rose:

It has Rose amazed to be back on Earth after seeing it die and it has Nine ~~realizing that the End of the World wasn't the best idea for a date~~ being his broody self:

It has Rose realizing how everything doesn't last:

It has Nine opening himself up to Rose for the first time:

And I'm going to got ahead and say that this is probably one of the most beautiful scenes in all of New!Who, in my opinion. You really see this connection formed between The Doctor and Rose during this scene and you realize just why Nine took Rose where he did: so that, on some small level, Rose could understand his pain and what it felt like to watch your home burn and know that you're the only one left. It's selfish and oh-so-slightly-manipulative on his part, but you just see Rose get it and Nine sees that Rose gets it and you just see the hope and optimism flow back into Nine and see him start to heal after the events of the Time War. That's what Rose did for Nine and that's part of why I love Nine/Rose and this episode so much.

It has Rose cheering Nine up unexpectedly and it has Nine falling just a little bit in love with Rose:

And the episode concludes with complete and utter adorable OTPness from Nine and Rose:

I know this will probably make some Who fans go O.o???, but when I was trying to think of my favorite episode, this one just kept coming to mind. I have the most ridiculous grin on my face every time I watch it (and I've watched it over 5 times) and it just makes me so happy. And it also has what I think is the first appearance of "Rose's Theme," but that's for another day. ;)

So yeah, there's that.

Author's Note: So, my second Doctor Who fic, which is really more of a drabble-turned-ficlet. I have this idea for a series of musings/introspections/whatever on Rose Tyler during Series 1. Maybe a ficlet for each episode, I don't know. I started with this episode because it's such an interesting dynamic between Nine and Rose, especially with Nine's choice of destination. And, while some people read the "There's me," line in a negative way, I found it terribly interesting to listen to and watch Rose during that part... because it doesn't strike me as uncaring at all.

I find it amazingly awesome that that the INDIANAPOLIS COLTS are going to the SUPER BOWL!!!

This will be the second time they've done it in the time I've been at college. They won my Freshman year, when they wiped the floor with the Chicago Bears. This year, they're up against the New Orleans Saints, which is a DAMN GOOD team.

I am really, really looking forward to the game in February.

(Of course, we all know who I'm rooting for... as if I could not root for my favorite 6'5 230lbs quarterback with laser rocket arms. And Garcon... and Clark... and Wayne... and Addai.)

Truthfully, I started iconing the wet!Sylar scene first, because it's fucking hot, but somehow my fascination with Samuel creeped up and kind of took over the process. I can't explain why I like the guy so much, but he's fun to icon.

OMG. Okay. I fucking loved this.

I love Emma. I know there have been some fans bitching about her and her power, but I think she's a beautiful character with a beautiful gift. She also works so well with Hiro. I loved their scenes together.

This episode also reminds me why I love Hiro so much... he's always wanting to help others. You gotta love a guy like that.

Also... Peter wasn't as douchetastic in this episode. At least... the Emo Kid hair wasn't as prominent in this episode. I've been back and forth with Peter throughout the series and I'm leaning towards the warm side with him right now. He's not as annoying.

Sammuel. Oh, Sammuel, I kind of love you. You're so very creepy and I love you for it. I'm still wanting to figure out your secrets and why you keep the Carnival together, but I'm enjoying the wait and the build up. Also... your eye make-up is sort of hot.

Poor Edgar...Sylar is kind of macking on Lydia, who's allowing it because Samuel told her to.

And Sylar...oh...Sylar.

See Sylar. See Sylar's chest hair. See Sylar's crotch.

Hi, Sylar.

The only thing I found kind of lame was the way that they did Sylar's memories. It just looked... awkward.

AND OMG THEY KILLED WINSTON!

The baptism thing was kind of creepy, but it really did lend a sense that Sylar had joined their family.

Next week: InMatt'sHead!Sylar apparently gets action...with Matt's wife Janice.
