CVDLINK

Introduction

Every year, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) cause around 17.9 million deaths globally, with numbers increasing steadily across Europe. These diseases also lead to considerable social and economic costs. CVDLINK tackles this critical issue by creating innovative AI-driven healthcare solutions aimed at improving diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.

CVDLINK collects and integrates health data from hospitals, research institutions, and real-world sources across Europe. This information is carefully standardised, ensuring strict adherence to ethical and legal data management principles. The project will develop sophisticated AI models that use this extensive dataset to offer practical tools accessible through a user-friendly online platform. These tools provide clear visualisations to help healthcare professionals and researchers make informed clinical decisions. Ultimately, CVDLINK combines routine health information with advanced AI to deliver impactful, evidence-based interventions that can significantly enhance public health outcomes.

Trilateral’s role

Trilateral Research supports CVDLINK through its expertise in ethics, privacy, and effective communication. Our key activities include:

  • Ensuring ethical standards guide the project’s digital transformation of public health services. We carefully monitor privacy and ethical impacts, establishing clear guidelines for ethical access and use of the project’s outputs.
  • Managing data protection to ensure compliance with GDPR and FAIR data principles. We develop secure, practical guidelines for data sharing and privacy protection based on extensive past research.
  • Promoting the project widely through strategic science communication, including coordinating conference participation, publishing findings in scientific journals, and managing digital outreach to maximise real-world adoption of the project’s tools.

Project impact

CVDLINK will significantly improve public health and research by:

  •  Creating tailored AI tools to accurately assess CVD health risks, co-developed with healthcare professionals and validated in practical, real-world settings.
Setting standards for future research by demonstrating how integrated datasets can enhance AI-driven healthcare solutions.
  • Exploring secure and privacy-preserving federated data storage and AI training methods, protecting patient privacy while advancing healthcare technology.
  • Accelerating digital transformation within public health services by delivering reliable, safe, and effective AI solutions, ultimately reducing the societal and economic burden of cardiovascular diseases.
