Transcripteur 2.0

Transcripteur 2.0.5 is a tool for phonetic transcriptions. The application allows you to create, maintain and manage phonetic transcriptions. The graphical user interface is divided roughly into two main panes. The right one is where all the transcription will occur. You add words orthographically and then add their phonological transcription to the right. At first, it was hard for me to figure out how this worked. The problem ended up being that you can't add words to the list, you have to create a list on notepad or use a file with your text. Only then the application will create a list of words for you. When I got the list to load, whenever I added a phonological transcription for a word, the orthographic version just disappeared. I couldn't get that to work. But, if that were to function correctly, Transcripteur has lots of features that make it easy to manage a collection of transcriptions. You can search for words both on the orthographical list and the phonological one. I could have used an application like this when I took that course on phonetics. It can be really helpful in allowing you to quickly find the equivalents to your words. And transcribing words into the application is a great way of helping your memory. However, Transcripteur isn't really a good platform for carrying out phonological transcriptions of large texts, because of the separation of words in lists, rather than in segments.
