This is actual two different issues ("--format option missing" and "SSH error does not affect exit status"). Maybe use the "copy" feature to make a second issue to track them separately?

Agree, I've now submitted https://tracker.ceph.com/issues/46237 for the exit code issue

we're talking about a function that is 3 LOCs. having multiple tracker issues for this just feels wrong to me.
