USA Travel Help.

I've been to the States several times before, but I'm going on quite a limited trip and want to make the most of my time there. I'm also travelling with someone who has only been to Hawaii, so I don't want to waste her time in the places I've been to before.

At the moment, it looks like this:

4 days NYC
A few days Orlando (Harry Potter World)
LA/San Diego (ComiCon)

I've been to NYC and parts of LA before - just the beaches, I stayed at Hermosa.

Basically looking for your recommendations:

- what would you show a first-timer in NYC in four days? She's not THAT touristy - Times Square won't impress her - but I'm thinking things like Coney Island, Roosevelt Island, Tribeca - she likes old and industrial things, cool food places, queer interest, art things, tv/movie locations

- what shows are the best at the moment? We're seeing The Normal Heart for sure.

- Central Park - your favorite bits of it? I've only been to the part around the Lennon Memorial. She wants to see the Balto statue. I don't have time to go over the whole park.

- what's there to do in Orlando besides the theme parks?

- Disneyworld vs Disneyland? Anyone seen World of Color? Is it worth it?

- San Diego - best things to do while we're not at ComiCon? We're staying in Little Italy.

- Los Angeles: hit me with it. I know nothing except the Venice Beach area. I don't want to do like, maps of stars homes, but I do want to do the Paramount lot tour. Asides from that I want to know the local stuff - I'm more interested in like, seeing/going to music/art industry stuff, events, gigs or bars or openings, and shopping I guess. I know about the Grove and Amoeba and I've heard there's a big famous independent book store? We would also not be like, opposed to celeb-spotting but not like, from a bus with a tour guide. My friend who I'll be staying with works in West Hollywood and lives between there and Silver Lake. If you are an LA local or a regular visitor, just hit me with it.

hi guys! I need your help with names and what they make you think of. here is the question...

what do you think of when you hear "fabrication?" What kind of images do you see? Does it have a certain "feeling?"

Anything helps, anything at all. Please and thank you with a cherry on top :)

more tshirt questions!

I need some stats for a class tomorrow that we're doing on "target markets" - if you guys could take a few seconds to fill out a few questions, I'd appreciate it SO MUCH. Won't use your ages or usernames or anything, we just need to make some pie charts. And its about tshirts, which I thought would be pretty topicless friendly. Thanks in advance!

1) What age bracket do you fall in?
+ Under 16
+ 16 - 18
+ 18 - 25
+ 25 - 30
+ 30 - 35
+ Over 35

Do you own/wear tshirts often?
+ Yes
+ No

How much would you pay for a cute/quirky t shirt from a store? ($US)
+ Under $10
+ Under $20
+ Under $40
+ Don't care how much, if I like it I'll buy it!

How much would you pay for a cute/quirky shirt if it was Limited Edition?
+ Under $20
+ Under $30
+ Under $40
+ Don't care how much, if I want it I'll buy it.
+ I don't care about limited edition items

Would you go to a t-shirt festival in your city? (Indie and international designers, boutique outlets, prizes/goodybags etc)
+ Yes
+ No
+ Eh, maybe

Would you go if there was another draw, like live music, celebrity guests or charity auctions?
+ Yes
+ No
+ Eh, maybe.

And finally (optional and mostly for funsies), post a photo of your favourite shirt!

Has anyone here had a bad experiance at a Paul Mitchell School? Specifically the one in Cranston, RI?

I just got back from getting my hair cut there and I am SOOO beyond disappointed. I asked for an asymmetrical and brought in very clear pictures. I left with barely an a-line. (Ill post pics when Im not in class haha) The girl didn't even cut the right side of my hair..just my left. All she talked abouot was how she didn't want to be a hairdresser and that If I had come in at a later time the better girls would be here. UMMM not what I wanted to hear.

I know these girls are still in training but I was expecting some form of proffesionalism. What irked me most is that the Professional that was on the floor did most of my haircut and it still sucks!!! She explained how to go about the haircut to the girl I was with but then proceeded to do most of it herself.

It's not an awful horrific cut. But its NOTHING like what I asked. The WHOLE right side was NEVER touched!!!

okay this is tl;dr..just needed to vent!!

So, in New Jersey, on May 1 we have a law going into effect that requires all provisional drivers (17 year olds) to put bright red stickers on their license plates identifying that they are 17.

The new law is going to make driving laws for teenagers MUCH stricter (we already have the highest driving age and really strict laws, but they're getting worse), but this is the most controversial piece of it. Oh, and 17 year olds can now only have one passenger, no matter if they're related to the driver or not (I think parents are the only exception).

How do you feel about teenagers having to openly display to cops, creeps, and anyone who looks at their car that they are a seventeen year old? Do you think it will help to save lives?

I want to have a green shirt with white lettering on the phone, I just need to figure out paint that won't wash out when I wash the shirt.

Thanks for any help. :D

Also, Topicless, have any of you made your own clothes or modded store bought clothes? What did you do?

This seemed impossible because of the 85% voter turn out.

Peculiarly, text messages weren't sending during this time. (They still do not work).

This meant over 10 million ballots. Which were counted by hand in less than 2 hours.

The projected winner was Mir-Hossein Mousavi.

What is important to know about Iran is that while the country does have a President, the Supreme Leader Iran is Ali Khamenei. Essentially he is the highest ranking religious and political leader in the country.

Grand Ayatollah Khamenei himself said that Ahmadinejad was the elected President.

Social Networking Internet sites like Facebook were blocked, and cellphone access was denied.

Protesters (mainly in Tehran) took to the streets. There, we saw police brutality and civilian uproar.

On Saturday, protests took place on the streets.

From here on out, protesters wear the colour green, which is Mousavi's campaign symbol.

Basijis, which are volunteer militants (armed yet dressed in plain clothes) took to the streets and began pouring in to Tehran by the bus loads.

Students at the local University were protesting, visibly upset. In the middle of the night, the Basijis forced their way into dormitories where they savagely beat students, destroyed computers, and furniture.

We have one confirmed death during this incident, but are hearing reports that up to 5 university students have lost their lives from one university campus.

On Sunday protesters once again took to the streets of Iran, and organized a protest that was to be held in Tehran on Monday. The Government (Ahmadinejad) forbade protests. Mousavi was to speak at this peaceful protest.

Sunday saw brutal beatings on the streets as riot police tried to take control of the situation.

At this point, the only source of information was coming from Twitter. Students and bloggers managed to find proxies that could help them access the site and tweet news to the Western World.

On Sunday night, cries of Allah o Akbar (God is great in Farzi) were shouted from rooftops and windows constantly throughout the night.

Monday, the protest took place. Mousavi showed up and talked to the people from a green car.

Things are still a blur to us right now. We have many unconfirmed reports.

There were shots fired into the 1-2 million strong crowd. People were shot, and we have reports of 7 casualties. Keep in mind that at this point, it is no longer the police who are killing or beating... it is the Basijis.

During this time, people are disappearing. Reports come from the Toronto Globe and Mail; one of their reporters gets caught up in Sunday's protests and is beaten and arrested and jailed. What he sees in somber. When the police find his Canadian passport, suddenly all is ~cool~ and they let him walk away. Others are not so lucky as to be foreigners.

News starts to trickle down through the Mass Media outlets. They are very very behind. BBC seems to be the only one paying attention.

The situation grows more violent. Apparently, the Basijis are now flooding to hospitals to stop doctors and nurses from treating patients/protesters.

More universities are attacked, people are offering their homes as shelter, but homes are being invaded and people taken away.

CNN goofs and absentmindedly names the twitter accounts where some information is coming from. Some of these sites suddenly disappear.

During this time, Western scumbags (us!) decide to stick it to the man (the Iranian 'government') and crash their websites. Many of us reboot their sites (meaning to constantly refresh every second thus crashing web servers and sites). Some of us are, erm, warned that our IPs are logged (lol, okay there).
People start making proxies for our Iranian brethrens. (Whenever you use a site, you have an ID... it's called an IP address. They are 'unique' to your computer -not always, but it's too much to get into, tbh- this is how the Iranian government was stopping the use of Facebook and other sites, by blocking these addresses from being accessed by Iranian IPs.) So, by using a proxy, they could theoretically access any website. This is how they accessed Twitter.

So, people began making proxies.Which you can do too!!

The protest eventually died down. And now, here we are Tuesday morning (EST).

The BBC are now reporting that there WILL be a recount, however, Skynews just said that the council would meet and discuss wether or not the elections were a fraud. They would then decide IF they would hold an election recount.

At this point, Skynews blogger/journalist/dude @Itwitius is keeping us informed.

An Iranian tweeter, @persiankiwi has also been giving us heart-wrenching updates.

I ASK THAT NONE OF YOU TWEET ANY IRANIAN TWEETERS, AND IF YOU CHOOSE TO 'RE-TWEET' THEIR MESSAGES, THAT YOU REMOVE THEIR NAMES.

Iranian agencies are monitoring social networking sites, specifically Twitter, and their lives may be in danger.

At this point, all we can do is wait, but I implore you my little Twats to EDUCATE yourselves on this, and support the people of Iran in their revolution.

Show your support by wearing green. Show your support by talking with friends and family and explaining to them the situation.

Participate in local protests that are being organized. Share links on Facebook, email your friends. Anything.

Here are some links:
Andrew Sullivan's blog. Beware though, apparently the Iranian govt is creating fake twitter accounts to spread falso info under the #iranelection tag.
