September Tunnel Syndrome
Posted on 10.20.05 by Mike K @ 6:29 am

The September Tunneling is up, and extra shiny. It was a light month, so we had to go back, and pick up a few from earlier in the year. Kisses, Zombie Smashers and Heavy Weapon being your older games. Personal favorites for this month would include The Strategist, Virus and The Goat in the Grey Fedora.

Doing the reviews like we do (blind, we don’t see each others scores until we’re all done), I always seem to have a game or two scoring regret. This month I’d have to say, the one game I *should* have given a higher score to would be The Goat in the Grey Fedora, the new Nick Bounty game. Even my comments clearly sound like I had a great time in the game, and I did. Ah well.

Plant Life
Posted on 10.17.05 by Mike K @ 12:43 pm

Plant LadyI’ve been trying to come up with a 3rd character to go along with the hamster and the robot for PuffBOMB. When I started redesigning the game, I wanted at least a male and a female character, but ended up with 2 males (3 if you count a butch hamster that I’d recently replaced with the robot).

It seems I have something. What you see to the right is a concept for the potted plant girl character. Yes, a potted plant. Oh, just imagine the hilarious conversations a Hamster, a Robot and a Female Potted Plant could have. Oh the hilarity! Not to mention, the unique dynamics of having a heavier sided character. Does this pot make me look fat?

As we can see, I “for some reason” went with a sort of swooshy shaped head thing, instead of the predictable 4 leaf flower. It’s madness I say. This Mike guy is out of control.

The round up should be up on the Tunnel soon. We’ve finally gone ahead and begun playing with the layout. Might be some imagry there too.

Fear and Neglect
Posted on 10.13.05 by Mike K @ 5:42 am

Gasp!

Oh don’t be scared baby, I’m still here.

Yes, it seems I’ve been neglecting posting. On the plus side, there’s been some major progress, but equally major distractions. Since apparently leaving a job clearly means “2 month vacation”, there I was back at Big Blue for a week. All was good though. I was asked to help a struggling project meet a milestone, and that seemed to go well. Twas also nice to hang out with the guys there again, a fine group I must say.

As for progress, last weekend I hit an internal milestone. In other words, my 2D physics engine is functioning exactly as I wanted it for our dear friend PuffBOMB, and some other little prototype games that may show up. Funky doo!

Excited and shocked by the previous note, I’ve got some round upin’ to finish. Oohh… Trash… Mmmm…

Spread the Disease
Posted on 09.25.05 by Mike K @ 6:13 pm

Grassy TreeyErr… maybe that’s not the most appropriate post title.

Yes, spreading is what we’re doing. Since I’m a nice guy, and since it’s probably a bad idea to wait, I’ve released the supped up classic 2003 PuffBOMB Prototype to the public. A download link can be found at the ‘official’ PuffBOMB homepage, PuffBOMB.com.

Currently it’s only available for Windows. Hopefully, I can have the MacOS X version ready to go soon.

Mmm… robots and vegitation.

El Loco Roco? Gish?
Posted on 09.22.05 by Mike K @ 10:30 am

Gish has some new friendsNick of Moonpod passed on an interesting find. Loco Roco for PSP (Locomotion Rocker?). You’ll find a video at that link.

Remarkably, it looks a lot like Gish, just tilted, and ultra happy. Alright, I absolutely adore the art style, but still. As Nick pointed out, it a first to see a commercial developer (Sony Computer Entertainment Japan) do a game based on an indie game. Traditionally, it’s been the other way around, with all the Arkanoid’s, Puzzle Bobble’s, Puzz Loop’s, and other such games.

Evidently, it’s his fault. Gregg, you’re both a jerk and the man. ;) . The game looks awesome, and I’ll buy it out of spite. Really, I’m supporting the cause here.
