Signature Tutorial

Here's a signature tutorial, sized at around 400x150, and involves color editing, some brush work, and some texture work. It's designed for beginners who are interested in working with color edits and putting together a simple signature from a picture. It's a little longer due to more further explanation and extra tips as well through personal experience.

Okay, so these Photoshop and GIMP tutorials are geared more towards newbies, hence the many pretty, colourful pictures. <3

I just tried out GIMP today so that I can sort of translate the Rukia colouring (because I just like it) from Photoshopalese to GIMPlese for my bbs. ~~Yeah, like I'm in the place to call them that. They're old enough to be my grandmothers. XD~~

This is my first tutorial! I've been lurking on this community for a couple years now, and have yet to contribute something! So without further ado, let us begin!

   Uses: Photoshop CS / selective coloring/ curves /
   Translatable: Probably not

   1) First, take this texture (I don't remember who made it) and use it as your base.

   2) Then, take this texture (again, I don't remember who made it) and then go to Image> Adjustments> and select desaturate. Set this layer on darken at 100%.

   3) Select an image that you wish to use (I'd suggest using an image with either no background or a plain white background to make it easier), and erase the background. I chose this one.

   4) Duplicate the image from the previous step and set the layer to screen at 100% (or lower, depending on your image) to brighten it.

   5) Duplicate your image again from the previous step and set the layer to screen at 55% (you can skip this step if your image does not need to be lightened further)

   6) Next, duplicate the texture from step two, and bring it all the way to the top and set the layer to darken at 100%. Erase any areas which you feel necessary (I erased the portion covering the woman's face).

   7) Now lets make the colors pop out a with selective coloring layer! (the best part in my opinion XD)

   -Reds: -100 / +43 / 0 / 0
   -Yellows: -14 / +17 / -27 / +23
   -Whites: 0 / 0 / 0 / +32
   -Neutrals: 0 / 0 / 0 / +10

   8) Make another selective coloring layer with the following settings:

   -Reds: -21 / 0 / 0 / 0
   -Blues: +100 / 0 / 0 / -7
   -Neutrals: 0 / 0 / -25 / 0

   9) And now the final step! Make a curves layer on RBG with the following settings:
   -Input: 143
   -Output: 124

   That's it! Feel free to add any brushes you like to your finished icon. If you have any questions or comments, please leave a message below! :D
