Ye gads, work was SO boring today. However, things improved when a coworker observed that one of the new Mountain Dew flavors was exactly the same color as glass cleaner. Inspired by this, I went and thoroughly washed an empty glass cleaner spray bottle, then refilled it with said beverage. Then drank out of it when people were looking >:D It made for hilarity.

Then went on a <strike>wild</strike> domesticated goose chase. Now we've got two adult geese, and four that're about two months old. I'll see about getting pics up at some point.

On a slow day last week, I developed a mystery roll of film I've had for a couple years. I'm rather glad I can run the photo machines myself, as it was a roll taken entirely of me by my ex. Including me mooning the camera. And a couple of underwear-only ones. Yeah, I'd prefer my coworkers not seeing those :P Considering auctioning them off to the peoples of /normal chat on KoL. Sort of considering, at least. Not seriously.

Yeah, so the Mini's connected and running on its own internal modem. Currently busy downloading Firefox 3 RC1 and KoL Mafia. Gots more things to be getting, but that can always wait a bit. So, it seems a bit odd that I'm in bed, surrounded by three computers all of a sudden.

As slow as it is with OSX, as blurry as the CRT is getting as the years pass, I think I'll retire the 2nd-gen iMac to function as a jukebox and archive file repository. That'll leave my with a functioning XP machine, and this Mini, which will probably be my primary machine.

Y'know, everywhere else in the house, it's a rare event to get a modem speed as high as 28.8k. Here I'm getting between 40-50k. I blame my parents' poor wiring job. Speaking of which, next time it's been dark and rainy long enough to be cool up there, I need to crawl in the attic and redo a fair bit of wiring on one circuit. Half of it's not working, and there's WAY too many wires going into the two junction boxes to be able to put covers on them. This sort of crowding is likely the reason there's a bad connection somewhere.

Er, ahem. Went off on a tangent. Anyways, about to set up my Mini and see if it'll connect in here. From everywhere else in the houuse, the pops and static on the line confuse the holy hell out of the modem and it can't even get through the handshake. Here's to hoping it works...

...I've gotten a tirade about me not doing things (that I did) and things I should have been doing via a list (one would think that being told verbally that other things were a priority). I realize my mom is seriously stressing, but, yeah. I deserve an apology at least. I asked for one before she passed out. And I'm doing jack shit until I get it.
I may live here, and give at the very least as must respect as I get, but there're still limits. I'm willing to take the legal risks of getting my own damn self to and from work while living in a tent. At least it'd be better than being driven around by my mom in my car when she's rarely capable of safely/efficiently operating a vehicle. And her trying to getting something other than a truck or SUV up that road, well, I expect when I get my license back I'll need to replace the oil pan and various other bits of undercarriage on that car. It's like she forgot how to drive something that's not ten feet tall with a 48" ground clearance. It's as if she AIMS for the holes in the road. And nearly clips mailboxes and guardrails on a regular basis. And as for the private road here, seems to aim for having the delicate undercarriage directly over the highest points, resulting in horrific-feeling scraping and slamming.

So, yeah, I'd like to get my driving privileges back if nothing else than for having someone behind the wheel who knows WTF they're doing.
I could rant more, but it'd take quite some time...

Please to be not be embedding video content in a post that isn't behind a lj-cut with a prominent warning. Some peoples are limited to internets with a 28.8kbps connection speed (on a good day, in nice weather) due to the poor quality of local wiring. such people may spend several minutes waiting for the Flash video player to download so their friends page will even show text, and unless they close the tab with their friends page, spend 2-3 hours per five minutes of video having their bandwidth completely monopolized by said video.

I've long since had YouTube's entire domain wiped by AdBlock Plus, but other sites allow embedded video as well, and I really can't keep up with blocking every single one of them.

So, thinking of priorities when I get paid.

New soldering tools. My TV now has no sound. I also need to fix my Dreamcast. The PS2 could also use a rebuild about now.
External phone modem. I'm getting a monitor brought here this evening, so I can use my Mini. Unfortunately, the pops and static on these hella-crappy phone lines confuse the holy hell out of its internal modem.
Clothing. I've not bought clothing in I dunno how many years now. Seriously in need of fresh stuff, and tired of repairing my clothes constantly.
Perhaps a celebratory bottle of bubbly and some nice chocolates.

Well, tha manager at the Rite-Aid seems pretty keen. I'm now saying >99% chance. They should get my background check back Monday, then they'll be wanting me to pee in a cup.
Mmmmph. Just spent about ten hours straight hand-shoveling and hauling perhaps 7-10 tons of concrete chunks, creek boulders, and #2 gravel. On the bright side, I can pretty much guarantee I can get my car in and out of here all up to Thursday. Much looking forward to getting out of here for a few days and stuffs. I'm still pumped on endorphins now. I was even working shirtless in the snow and still sweating :P

I foolishly answered the phone this morning when I was suiting up for wading in frigid creek waters. Rachel was in her usual 'woe is me' state, and likely had a couple glasses of wine already. This was like 8AM. Begging me to come back, promising sex every day, actually HELPING keep things clean, all the usual. Seriously, I do NOT need that kind of stress in the morning.

Anyway, there's foods now, and my body is begging for calories. Also, I've run out of things I feel should be said.

Calling all locals...
Sometime mid-next month, I need to visit Frederick to recover a few things. I don't want to repeat the disaster of going alone. Froborr, Kouban, or Onsen would by my first picks for such a trip, as I think it's best if I'm hanging with a male. However, I'm not adamant on maleness, and would ask Keta, as she's the closest to the area.

Is there anyone not on this short list that'd like to make such a journey?

Yes, I am still alive. However, having the power out for 47 hours kinda limits my ability to interact with the world and/or entertain myself. Started on improving the road after the recent deluge. Rather than go for the #2 gravel we've got a pile of, I collected up every bit of broken earth I could find, partially to clean, mostly to vent my frustration at NO POWER. A variety of broken cinderblocks, a few broken paving stones, one broken terra cotta planter, a broken toilet, and a small pile of >100-pound creek boulders. Suffice it to say, making the broken items far MORE broken to fill in the spaces between said boulders was quite satisfying. The road still needs a lot more, but that'll have to wait on weather. And me being actually warm and eating cooked food. It's getting to almost 55 in the house now, at least. Perhaps I should take the time to make some nice hot coffee. I'm thinking a pan of hot cocoa might be on the menu this evening. In any case, I've made a claim of spoiled items in fridge, freezer, and chest freezer, and will be contacted in a couple days regarding that. I'm sure they're all fine, considering the weather and lack of heat in the house, but I might just stash the contents of those in buildings or the crawlspace if someone comes to inspect.
