At Camp Starfish, our goal is to create an environment where each individual camper is "set up for success." Camp Starfish has a 1:1 staff-to-camper ratio at all times, and a focus on helping campers develop their coping and social skills - while having fun, doing typical camp activities, and making friends. That means we have a counselor for every child, though we do not assign staff as individual aides to campers, but rather assign a group of staff to each cabin.

WHAT WE ARE ASKING OF YOU

Your honesty and thoughtful responsiveness is appreciated. The more we can learn about a child before they arrive at camp, the better we can work with his/her family, caregivers, therapeutic supports, school team, and others to become a part of the camper's overall support system. Your recommendation is one part of the process by which we determine if Camp Starfish is a good fit for a child. The information you provide here will be reviewed along with the written application, discussions with parents/guardians and caretakers, a brief interview with the child, other professional recommendations and any further information requested or provided as part of our intake process. We are asking that you share any information you believe would help us gain an accurate picture of the potential camper. 

CONFIDENTIALITY & COPIES OF CONTENT

This recommendation becomes a confidential part of the applicant's file. Following submission, you will receive an email with the content of the recommendation for your records. Should the applicant request a copy of the recommendation, Starfish's policy states that we will refer them to you directly and allow you to make an appropriate determination regarding release of the information, based on your district/agency/supervisory policy and/or any other factors that you deem relevant. (Please note that should Starfish be asked to turn over a camper's file as part of a legal proceeding, this recommendation will of course be included.)
