Program Descriptions: 

The Introduction to Concrete Petrography is an 8-hour seminar for engineers and construction professionals that explains how geology influences concrete materials and performance. It highlights Philippine geology, aggregate and mineral evaluation, and the role of cement types and additives in concrete integrity.

Objectives of the Program:
By the end of the seminar, the participants will be able to:

  • Explain Philippine geology and its effect on concrete raw materials including rocks, minerals, and plate boundaries.
  • Identify and assess aggregates and minerals used in concrete and harmful components.
  • Describe how concrete components, including cement and mineral additives, affect performance.
  • Apply petrographic and geochemical tests to evaluate concrete quality, durability and suitability.
  • Diagnose causes of deterioration and suggest mitigation strategies.
  • Use case studies to guide material selection and performance decisions.
