5.0 out of 5 stars (17)

When the twins Alex and Luna arrive at the vast artificial island of Eidos, they expect to find a futuristic high school behind its towering walls.

Instead, they discover a world ruled by a mysterious AI, where cutting-edge technology and wild nature collide, and mortal danger lurks around every corner. They soon have to defend themselves against killer robots, hunt for food, and watch classmates get killed during math exams.

Why has the Academy of Eidos gone mad? Why isn’t anyone coming to save them? And where are the adults who were supposed to run the school?

The Circle is the first book in

Engaging From Start to Finish
I really enjoyed this book, mostly because it does something the genre rarely does anymore. It doesn’t rely on exaggerated villains or helpless heroes reacting to chaos. The characters are competent, make smart choices, and actually shape the story instead of being dragged through it. That alone made the book feel more believable and, honestly, more satisfying to read. The book doesn’t just say the characters are learning - we see what they actually study, and those sections are surprisingly engaging. They add real substance to the story instead of feeling like filler or background lore. The world-building is solid without being bloated. There are side elements and smaller threads that add depth rather than padding, and even the more explanatory parts stayed interesting instead of feeling like a chore. This won’t be for everyone - if you’re looking for fast, shallow entertainment, you might not connect with it. But if you want fantasy that feels smarter, more grounded, and willing to do something different, this one is absolutely worth your time

I really enjoyed this book, it has some of the same survival tension as The Hunger Games and a bit of the virtual-world vibe of Ready Player One, especially in the way it uses gaming elements as part of the story. There’s strategy, character development, and a world that feels carefully thought out.

I loved The Circle because it avoids the typical "helpless hero" tropes. Alex and Luna are competent and make smart decisions, which makes the survival stakes feel much more grounded and believable. The "school" parts aren't just filler, either; the material they actually study is engaging and adds real depth to the plot. It’s like Ender's Game but with a fresh, modern take on AI and human progress. If you want a story that’s both smart and high-stakes, this is it.

A fantastic trilogy from start to finish! I'm not much of a reader, but this series had me hooked, and I flew through all three books. The mix of sci-fi and tech is spot on. What really makes it stand out, though, are the well-crafted characters and the overarching plot that develops perfectly across the trilogy. 5 stars!"

great story - I've enjoyed every page. It's great at explaining complex ideas in a language that is accessible to YA and also to grownups who are not familiar with some of the subjects, It has Gaming, History, Economics, Biology, Computing and a whole lot of other topics that are fascinating. Plus the plot is great. Highly recommended!

I can’t stress how surprising this book has been for me. I wasn’t expecting much when I started reading it, yet I couldn’t put it down and finished it in a single day.

It takes the familiar themes of LitRPG and books like The Hunger Games and elevates them. I can’t recommend this book enough

I really liked pretty much everything about it. The plot is interesting. The setup is mind blowing. I LOVED that any possible open end was closed, in a way that I couldn't have possibly thought of. 5/5 easily!

I just finished The Mechanical God Book I: The Circle and I am completely hooked. Lucian K. has created a world that feels frighteningly plausible and utterly immersive.

The story follows Alex and Luna as they enter the Aidos Academy—a place that promises a futuristic utopia of learning but quickly reveals itself to be a nightmare managed by a deranged AI. The tension is palpable from page one. I loved the "school setting gone wrong" vibe; it scratches that itch for fans of Ender’s Game or The Hunger Games, but with a unique, hard sci-fi edge.

The dynamics between the students, the survival elements, and the looming mystery of the "Mechanical God" kept me turning pages late into the night. If you love smart sci-fi with high stakes and great character chemistry, do not miss this. Can't wait to read the next one!
