Six Huskies Earn All-PSAC East Football Honors

2023 Football All Conference

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg football team landed six players on the 2023 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East All-Conference teams, as announced by the league office. Quentin Gaskill (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) and Kaleb Monaco (Pocono Pines, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) repeated as All-PSAC East honorees, while Giovanni Cancro (Pequannock, N.J./Pequannock Township), Tom Goetz (Wenonah, N.J./Gateway Regional), Nas Jones (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area), and Nadir McLeod (Philadelphia, Pa./Martin Luther King) earned their first career accolades.
 
Gaskill is a three-time All-PSAC East defensive back with a spot on the first team in 2023. The Waynesboro, Pa. native was a first team honoree in 2021 and earned a spot on the second team last season. Gaskill finished his career with 279 total tackles, 183 solo and 28 assisted stops. He has six interceptions, 28 broken up passes, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and three blocks over the last four seasons. This year, Gaskill finished eighth in the PSAC East with 58 total tackles in conference games and had 76 stops for the season. He was second on the team in tackles and led the team with six broken up passes. Gaskill had a career-best 14 total tackles against Lock Haven on Homecoming, He had an interception against Clarion and Shippensburg.
 
Jones earned his first All-Conference honor as an All-PSAC East first team tight end. Jones was second on the team with 409 receiving yards on 33 catches this season. He had a pair of receiving touchdowns and averaged 37.8 yards per game. Jones averaged 12.4 yards per catch this season. He had a season-long catch of 43 yards against Millersville. The Williamsport, Pa. native was key part of the passing offense for the Huskies in a run-heavy scheme. For his career, Jones has 915 receiving yards on 77 catches in 32 games. He averages 28.6 yards per game and averages 11.9 yards per catch in three seasons.
 
Monaco repeats as an All-PSAC East second team running back for the third time in his career. Monaco is one of the more dynamic players in recent Bloomsburg football history and in the PSAC. This season, Monaco rushed for 952 yards on 187 carries, a career high in carries, yards, and average yards per game. Monaco averaged 5.1 yards per carry, and had a career-long 63 yard rush against Clarion, which he ran in for a touchdown. Monaco had four games with 100+ rushing yards, including back-to-back 100 yard games against Clarion and Edinboro, including a season-best 149 yards against the Fighting Scots. He ran in six touchdowns this season, a career high as well. He caught 19 passes for 144 yards and averaged 13.1 yards per game. The Pocono Pines, Pa. native was third in the PSAC with 86.5 rushing yards per game. Monaco finished the year with 1,658 all-purpose yards with 562 kick return yards on 25 returns. For his career, Monaco has 2,172 rush yards which puts him 13th all-time at Bloomsburg with another season to play.
 
Cancro earned his first career postseason honor as a second-team defensive lineman. The Pequannock, N.J. native had a breakout year for the Huskies with 29 total tackles this year, including 15 solo stops. He had 5.0 tackles for a loss of 22 yards and broke up two passes. Cancro finished with one quarterback hurry and a blocked kick. Cancro appeared in 10 games this season for the Huskies on defensive line that held opposing quarterbacks to just 152.5 passing yards per game and a league-low seven passing touchdowns. Cancro had a career-high five tackles against West Chester.
 
Goetz had an exceptional comeback season for the Huskies in 2023 after playing in just four games before a season-ending injuring in 2022. This year Goetz started every game and earned a spot as an All-PSAC East second team linebacker. Goetz had a career-best 76 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss (34 yards), and 4.5 sacks (23 yards). The Wenonah, N.J. native had a pair of interceptions and three pass breakups for the year. Both of his INTs came against Clarion – one that was recovered for a touchdown and the second to seal the win for the Huskies late in the fourth quarter. He led the team in tackles for loss and sacks. He was 14th in the PSAC in total tackles. For his career, Goetz has 139 total tackles, including 14.0 tackles for loss (55 yards) and 6.5 sacks (38 yards). He also has seven pass break ups, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries.
 
McLeod rounds out the all-conference honors for the Huskies with his first career spot on the All-PSAC East second team as a defensive back. McLeod finished the year with 14 total tackles, including 1.0 tackle for loss (2 yards). He had one interception and a team-leading eight pass break ups. He finished the year with a forced fumble as well. McLeod had a pair of break ups against East Stroudsburg and intercepted the Shepherd quarterback and returned the pick for 10 yards on Shepherd's first drive of the first quarter. The short field set up a touchdown for the Huskies, needing to go only 38 yards on five plays for the 7-0 lead. McLeod has 74 total tackles for his career, 11 passes defended and a pair of interceptions.
 
The Huskies finished the year 3-8 under head coach Frank Sheptock, including a win over then-ranked #20 Shepherd at home.
