PLAYER
» Journal: sedately
» Birthdate/Age: March 16th 1986/24 years old
» Characters Played: Nick (candyasss), Sean McNamara (talentedhand), Russell Clank (bigsonofabitch).

CHARACTER
» Name: Daryl Dixon
» Fandom: The Walking Dead
» Reference: http://walkingdead.wikia.com/wiki/Daryl_Dixon
» Canon Point: S1EP6, TS-19. Right after they finish their partying and boozing it up.
» Gender: Male, mentally and physically.
» Age: Never specified, but I would estimate in mid-to-late twenties.
» Orientation: Unknown. He’s never seen making advances towards either the men or women in the group and upon his arrival in the show, was told his brother was left chained to the roof with a bunch of zombies around him. Saving him becomes top priority. He’s never shown prior to this or tells what his life might have been like. He never mentions any former boyfriends or girlfriends or wife or husband, so I really can’t draw any conclusions about what his orientation might be with what’s provided in the show. Daryl Dixon’s a bit of a redneck and while I don’t want to make any assumptions and believe nothing can really be said one way or another (hence the decision to put unknown as a his sexuality), he’s got a lot of prejudices. It’s unlikely that he would be openly and proudly homosexual, I would think. His brother seems to be heterosexual, calling one of the female survivors ‘sugar titties’ and making other unwanted comments as he tries to convince her to get him uncuffed which she brushes off, but whether that would imply anything about his brother’s sexuality would be hard to say or pull off. I think saying any thing else would be deviating from canon since not enough evidence really seems to exist to say what Daryl swings for sexually one way or another.
» Personality: Daryl Dixon is a lot of things and not all of them are good. From what we can see, he’s a skilled hunter and knows how to track animals. He can draw upon the same clues to track humans as he did with his brother. He guessed successfully that Merle sawed off his hand because the blade was too dull to handle the handcuffs, that he tied his arm off with his belt to prevent blood loss (because there would have been a lot more blood in the area if he hadn’t), etc. It’s clear that his family is very important and he almost idolizes his brother. He mentions that if you give Merle a hammer, he’d shit out nails and that no one can kill Merle but Merle. There’s no swaying that belief that his brother is damn near invincible.

He seems to know that Merle is a little unreasonable when pissed off, looking almost worried when they realize the truck they drove to the city in is missing. He mentioned that if Merle took it, he’d be going back to camp with vengeance in his mind.

That said, it’s obvious the two aren’t exactly alike. They share some qualities, but unlike Merle was shown to be, Daryl is more of a team player. Yes, he’s rash and headstrong, he doesn’t always think things through (actually, he oftentimes doesn’t think things through). He’ll react without considering the consequences. He’ll listen to reason eventually though, unlike Merle. He’ll back off and cool down. He doesn’t seem to have any desire to try to take over or lead like his brother did and certainly doesn’t try to do it with threats. Maybe because he saw that got Merle chained to a roof and left.

That doesn’t mean he’s always pleasant to his group either. Though he does compliment Glenn on being brave, he won’t hesitate to call him a ‘chinaman’ without caring that he’s actually Korean (he probably doesn’t make the distinction between parts of Asia, honestly). He doesn’t understand why his group would opt to bury those who died in their group after a zombie attack when they’re (in his book) the same as the zombies and he blames it on Glenn getting emotional over how they needed to bury their own, not burn them. Despite his prejudices though, he does seem to be on somewhat friendlier terms with people of other races than his brother, who lashed out at being told what to do by a black man.

He also tries to be a little more practical, especially with the zombies as shown above with his desire to just do away with the bodies than get sentimental when they all knew they were infected and needed to be dealt with. He even wanted to kill a member of their group, whose name was Jim, that had been bitten because he was infected. He did back off after he saw none of the others would let him though.

Despite the fact that he’d wanted to kill Jim just prior, he does go to pay his awkward goodbyes when they decide to leave him on the road while they travel to the CDC (after Jim requested it, of course). He might appear to be callous and cold-blooded, but there’s some little piece that seems to care.

He also doesn’t seem to have a drug problem like his brother, who was found carrying cocaine in a pocket. Daryl does love to drink though and joined the group after they arrived at the CDC building for a little celebration. He even almost good-naturedly teased Glenn, telling him to keep drinking because he wanted to see how red his face would get.

Back to how deeply Daryl appears to care for Merle though! Upon finding his sawed off hand, Daryl wraps it up and decides to keep it out of some bizarre sentimental value, though he later doesn’t hesitate to use it for bluffing when they find someone else in town (who took Glenn and was after their guns). He claims that it was the hand of the last person who caused him trouble and next time, he’s starting with the feet. Another show of how his prejudice might not run as deep as his brother’s is how he agrees to go right along with Rick and T-Dog to fetch Glenn back after he’s kidnapped, when he could have just as easily left him.

Daryl has a temper on him though. He’s easy to piss off and will, without hesitation, resort to violence. After Rick told him what happened to his brother, he drew a knife and had to be held down. When they found his brother’s hand, he was going to shoot T-Dog with his crossbow for leaving him, but also reluctantly backed off after Rick held a gun to his head. Upon seeing someone else in the city, he didn’t even hesitate to start roughing them up and threatening them, demanding to know if they saw Merle. There are various instances of him jumping to violence at the drop of a hat and that makes him a little hard to predict and a handful to deal with.

Like was said earlier, Daryl doesn’t have the best sense to try and figure stuff out before he rushes into action. He would rather beat the shit out of someone rather than settle down, take a moment to think things through, so it’s probably good he’s surrounded with calmer people, who have a lot more common sense than that. Another example of how he doesn’t seem to think things through is, upon discovering a deer he’d shot being chewed on by a zombie, he asks if they can just eat around the parts it had gnawed on without worrying that it was a possible way to spread the infection.

He also has no sense to watch his mouth, saying whatever comes to mind. After the group is attacked by zombies and a lot of people were lost, he didn’t hesitate to tell them that they deserved it for what they did to Merle. He told them what goes around, comes around, you reap what you sow, etc. Basically, he thought that’s what they deserved for leaving a man chained to a roof, most of all, his family.

On a positive note, despite it all, he isn’t a chicken. He’s brave enough to go into a zombie filled city to find his brother, to help get back a member of their own group, and to follow Rick’s plan to get to the CDC. Despite not being the sharpest person sometimes, he’s got the sense to carry a crossbow with him because he knows it’s silent and just as deadly. He seems to have quite a bit of knowledge on how to hunt and on weaponry, though he’s never quite mentioned how he’s learned it all. It was probably knowledge he had well before the apocalypse happened though. Like was mentioned earlier as well, he seems to be more of a team player than his brother and follows the group even after what they did to his brother and what he sees as weakness.
» Appearance: Daryl is average height, on the muscular side, with brown hair and some facial hair. Most of his shirts are either sleeveless or he’s cut off the sleeves. He’s usually seen with his crossbow as a weapon.
» Suitability: n/a.

SAMPLES
» "amatomnes" Entry: [There’s a loud noise that carries over the device as it’s thrown roughly against the wall, the button to make at least the audio come on getting hit in the impact. It clatters to the ground and you can hear rustling around, like someone is hurriedly getting dressed.] Man, what the hell is this? This is total bullshit right here, takin’ me wherever the hell I am, not so much as a warnin’... wait ‘til I get ahold of them, they’re gonna regret takin’ me. Tell you that much right now.

[The voice is clearly agitated, seething, but there are soon footsteps nearing the device. It’s snatched up and Daryl appears on the screen soon after, having hit the button for video. He’s still half naked and sure as hell pissed off he’s collared among other things. At least he’s not surrounded by Walkers, but shit, this just wasn’t right.] Alright, now I’m gonna assume someone is out there watchin’ this. I don’t know what the hell is going on here now, but I want an explanation.

[He looks into the camera as he draws it closer, eyes narrowed and frowning deeply.] What kind of prick puts a collar on you like you’re some damn dog?

[His tone hardens, taking in a few deep breaths. Not helping calm him down any though.] It’s in your best interests to tell me what I wanna know now because you don’t even want to see what the hell I did to the last asshole who pissed me off, you got that? Cut off his hand, that’s what I did, then I went after his goddamn feet.
» "amatomneslogs" Entry: Daryl stirred slowly in his sleep, blinking open bleary eyes. Last night had been one damn good dream. It was fuzzy and hazy, but damn, had it been almost real. It took him a few more moments to realize that, shit, he felt a certain wet spot. Hadn’t had one of those dreams in awhile, like since puberty. Making a disgusted little noise, he started to push himself up. It wasn’t just the wet, sticky mess, but something felt off. The bed felt different than the one he fell asleep on last night. The CDC beds? Not bad, but not too comfortable either. Hell of a lot better than sleeping on the ground though.

“What the hell,” he started, pushing away the blankets and looking down at himself. Naked. Completely and totally naked. “Hey, this ain’t funny! Who did this?”

He wasn’t really expecting an answer since he seemed to be alone here. He wasn’t below ground anymore though, that was for damn sure. He just had no idea where the hell he was or where the others were or the zombies.

It was impossible to not feel something wrapped around your neck when it hadn’t been there previously too. He felt the slight pressure, something thick wrapped there. Reaching up, Daryl brushed his fingers over it. Some sort of leather collar. “Goddammit, this is sick! I’m not dog!”

That was the last push he needed to jump out of bed and find a mirror, inspect the collar real nice and close. A dog collar. He reached up to start tugging on it, get it lose, but it wasn’t budging, no matter how hard he tried. “Oh, man,” He growled, backing away from the mirror and dropping his hands. He shook his head, took in a deep breath in an attempt to get that temper under control. “Someone’s gonna regret this!”

From what we can see, he loves his brother and almost idolizes how strong he is (he constantly gloats about how his brother has survived a lot of things in the episode, Vatos. He isn’t even surprised at all to see Merle was able to kill two zombies one-handed). He even went as far as to keep his brother’s sawed off hand when he found it on the roof, either for some sort of bizarre sentimental value or in the event he did need to use it for bluffing or, really, who knows. Besides his desire to keep severed hands, Daryl is also a racist and not above making slurs. He calls the Korean member of their little group of survivors, Glenn, a “Chinaman” often and doesn’t seem to care when he points out he’s not Chinese but Korean. Surprisingly, despite the prejudice, he goes to help Glenn when he’s kidnapped by a gang found in Atlanta. He’s seen teasing him over drinks as well, but it seems to be more in an almost good natured type of way.

He’s skilled with firearms and other weaponry, though mostly carries around a crossbow since it’s silent and loud noises tend to attract zombies. He likes to hunt too. Daryl might not be the smartest of the bunch, but he’s not necessarily an idiot. Though there are instances that make you wonder like when they find a zombie munching on a deer, he says they could just gnaw around that part without thinking it’s a possible way to get infected from it.

Daryl has a zero tolerance policy on the zombies and doesn’t let personal attachment get in the way. When the camp is attacked and some of their own killed, he doesn’t see what difference it makes if the bodies are burned with the zombies or buried. He also wants to go shoot one of the survivors that had been bitten before he turned with the excuse it didn’t matter, they don’t let Walkers in their group.

That said, he will fight for his group and he stuck with them when they decided to start moving again, even if he was angry that they had left his family chained to a roof. He realizes it’s not smart out there by yourself, even if he has faith his brother’s doing well for himself.

Daryl can be rash and short tempered. When he’s angered, he tends to lash out. He throws squirrels that he’s killed to eat, his own brother’s hand even (bluffing that he cut it off an enemy), and isn’t afraid to lash out with weapons either.
Skills/Abilities: Daryl is a skilled hunter and prefers to use his crossbow since it’s not as loud. He’s also a pretty good shot. His weaknesses lay probably in his rashness and not always thinking things through.
