Refugee Camp

THF program in the refugee camp of Malindza, operated by The Next Generation Taekwondo, has been initiated in 2022 to include and empower young refugees through Taekwondo. Long-term objective will be to unite Taekwondo practitioners from in and out of the camp, to train together under one roof.

A performing outsourced program

Camp

The Malindza migrant reception camp in the Lubombo region has been run for several years by the government with the help of the UNHCR. It currently accommodates migrants from countries such as Burundi, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Somalia.

Promoting well-being, social inclusion and personal development

Program

The program run by our partner (The Next Generation Taekwondo) is addressing weekly 95 young participants, from which a majority of girls, counting various colored belts and beginners. Participants are training Kyorugi technics and Poomsae performances in different groups (evening and day sessions of 2 hrs.) across 5 days, developing their physical and mental capacities, as well as soft skills and values. A local Taekwondo coach and 2 local trainers are in charge of running the activities, introducing life subjects helping the beneficiaries in their personal development. The most talented athletes are training from time to time outside the camp, participating in local competitions, shining gold, silver and bronze.
