yes, i complain about work. i don't love everything. i lost 5% in a global pay reduction. i never work just a 40-hr week. but then one of my coworkers and i have this exchange, and it's all ok:

me: "who's more important in american history, orville wright or orville redenbacker?"
him: "dude, totally orville redenbacker!"
me: "man, i love me some popcorn"
him: "besides, if there had been no orville wright, there'd have been no 9/11"
me: [speechless]
him: "i mean, basically, the wright brothers are terrorists"
me: [dead on the floor]

Spent the nice, warm Sunday handling the giant stick pile and mowing (!) the lawn. I need to put some mulch down and finally order some seeds for the garden.

speaking of which, watch this space for updates on the Ralston Social Club 2009 season. We're going to change our date to the last Sunday of every month in hopes to avoid conflicts.

Hey ya'll, you may know this already, but even if you do, it bears repeating:

MY WIFE is an amazing, get-em-done wife and mother!

She works an amazingly stressful job (and loves it), she's got a full-time daughter who has decided that "Night Time is the Right Time" and keeps her up all hours feeding, likes to yell and shout and is never satisfied with being calm, a husband who is stressed with work and usually ends up working late, and basically is dealing with a life that keeps driving up to the house in a dump truck full o' stress and pulls the DUMP lever.

And manages to still be hot and funny and caring and find time to buy a Wii and a suit for me and love her daughter and go running with Laura.

Basically, she rules, and little Story and I are SOOOOO lucky to have her in our lives.

dentist appoitment this morning. time for x-rays! i like my dentist, i've known her since my Riverside days (it's two units down from ol' Riverside Centre Park) and she's been excellent.

anyways, she was on the last bite-wing, the last of 16, on the lower left side; as she went to put it in and asked me to bite down, the film hit my gag reflex and I puked all over my dentist.

i couldn't stop laughing, it was the most ridiculous thing that has happened all week.

it was almost like she had just asked me how I felt about Jeopardy.

hope your thursday is passable in the slightest.

Finding 90s and Late-Millenial Underground Techno CDs at Thrift Stores

I was out searching for outerwear for my baby girl yesterday and found myself up at Goodwill. No such luck with the clothes, but I did walk out with four CDs of quasi-classic electronic music: µ-Ziq, X-Press 2, Howie B, and a Warp records compilation. You may recall that last summer I came upon a cache of early 90s Instinct Ambient CDs at a Salvation Army, so who knows what's going on...

... other than me getting old and out of touch.

So, over the course of the last few months, I truly discovered Wikipedia. Oh sure, I had previous used it to look up who had been born & deaded on my birthday (Manute Bol & Marie Antoinette) but I've never really gone "i'd like to know more about ____; to the WIKIPEDIA!"

Well, I've started to do just that, and here are just a few of the things I learned:

Boris Karloff is the assumed name of William Henry Pratt; the actor's birth name was by Joss Whedon as the birth name of the vampire Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Angel.

There is no "non-live" version of the Elton John song, "Bennie & the Jets." Elton and the band thought the recording was too empty, so the producer added live sound from some concert material to fill it out.

Alton Brown, the Food Network guru, was originally a student of cinematography, and was the directory of photography for the R.E.M. song "The One I Love"

I think I may be addicted to information...

ok, so turntable lab introduced me to the design duo of kozyndan, who went on to do the cover art for the Postal Services's singles - I ended up getting Brooklyn one of their ridiculous coloring books for a gift. When I found out they were on LJ, I friended immediately (something I don't do - "friend" nonfriends).

Anyway, they just posted about a collaboration they've been working on with Puma for some awesome shoes:

I just want to go on record here and call out my AMAZING WIFE and MOTHER of MY CHILD,

who is doing an AMAZING JOB raising our daughter and maintaining a level of sanity in the middle of ridiculous stress and confusion.

As much as I would like to be the stay-at-home Dad for our Story, I think I would have buckled in a DAY what Brooke has handled with poise and aplomb.

Red Dawn

Starring Swayze, C. Sheen, Lea Thompson and Jennifer Grey, it's a movie about what happens when the US gets invaded by Russians and Cubans, and a group of high-school students become guerillas, trying to fight back.

Honestly, the movie took me places, emotionally, I never thought it could. And it just kept getting better and better and better. Highly recommended!

everything is in stasis; a $49 rooter rental helped chew through the culprit: brooke hair and tree roots.

pipe surgery still needs to take place, but is not immediate, thank god.
