The early days of PlayStation gaming meant the world to me. I love nostalgia, and I love thinking back to the feelings I had when I was a kid with my old PlayStation consoles and games — Especially my PlayStation 2! Chris has an amazing publication called 94 'til Infinity that goes over these early PlayStation days, and I love the focus placed on the feelings and nostalgia connected to PlayStation gaming from that time period!
Oya has some incredible articles on her Substack that I look forward to reading whenever they hit my inbox! Her writing is well-informed and thoroughly researched when needed with ample sources, and her writing style is one that I’m envious of! It’s very fun to read while maintaining an amazing professional quality to it! I absolutely love all the images and GIFs that Oya includes too, with informative and humorous write-ups that make me want to jump into whatever game she’s writing about!
I have loved the design and style of Alex’s Gamedev Relay publication from the moment I first saw it! It is an easy way to catch up on the latest news and information from the gaming world! The formatting of each newsletter for Gamedev Relay is fantastic, and I love the Lightning Round sections that quickly go over gaming/tech news as well as the True Tribute sections that highlight others writers on Substack!
I have been following Good Game Lobby for awhile now, and he has an awesome publication under the same name that has a major focus on indie games and the gaming community! I love when I see a new article posted by him, because I know I’m going to learn something new about a game I likely have never heard of! His writing is very informative, witty, and focused on some amazing indie titles! He also runs a YouTube channel and streams regularly on Twitch!
I love reading about and revisiting older games that remind me of the type of video games I grew up playing! I also enjoy seeing and learning more about up-and-coming and/or established games that look fun, as well as anything tech-related! ROP, with the publication ROP’s Passions, wonderfully goes over a lot of these things! ROP puts a lot of time and effort into not just the newsletters, but also does awesome audio voiceovers for articles as well as a YouTube channel!
What I love about Margot’s writing is her passion for gaming that comes to life in the words she writes! I’ve learned so much about indie gaming, the Steam Deck, and different perspectives on gaming in general that I otherwise wouldn’t have learned except from Margot’s articles! Margot’s write-ups also include many wonderful screenshots and photos, with thoughtful remarks on the gaming community that is always an encouragement and gets me to come back to see what’s new for her publication!
Harrison creates incredible gaming content here on Substack, and has been very community-focused with other gaming writers! The quality of writing that Harrison makes for Infinite Lives is very professional, focused on gamers, and well-worth reading! Harrison does a great job at making content accessible, while maintaining an engaging journalistic format!
Ever since I first joined Substack, I was recommended to check out Alex Antra’s publication! I’m incredibly glad I did, because Alex puts in so much work to curate gaming articles and write-ups from Substack and across the internet! It’s fantastic to see Alex’s weekly list of new favorite articles, along with their thoughts on them! Reconnect Recap is absolutely worth checking out and subscribing to! The work from Alex has helped many writers, including me, to get their work out there!
