The Website

As you may have noticed, the website just had a big update ! I made a brand new repo and switched from vanilla HTML/CSS/JS to Jekyll, which is a static site generator. I also made a new design for the website, as well as brand new pages for current projects and posts, which I hope you’ll like !

There may be more coming soon, so you’re warned !

School

I’m doing fine, continuing the second year. I’m currently learning a lot about web development, and also about Docker and Containers in general, which is really interesting. I also have a lot of fun doing it, which is great !

I have a few critics regarding how the school is organized and how they teach us some subjects. They drop us directly into projects, which is really nice, but they don’t really give us a lot of guidance on how to do it and how to use the tools with which we work, and that can be really annoying when you’re trying to learn something new and especially when the goal at the end is to be a professional in the field. But overall, I’m really enjoying it and I’m learning a lot, so I can’t complain too much !

I does make me want to do more on the side, including…

Side Projects

Custom Linux Images ! I’ll tell you more about it in a future post, but I’m currently working on a project to create custom Linux images for different use cases, such as using Linux on MS Surface laptops, maybe a personal one for my development needs, etc. I’m really excited about this project and I hope to share it with you soon !

Small update to tell you all my website will go through big changes ! It will only be available in English and in French (I need to keep my sanity lol). But it will also be the case for articles. So you’ll be able to subcribe to the french articles or the english ones. If you read this, you’ll probably be auto-redirected to the english feed.

I also want to give you an update on where I am right now, a lot has happened since I started using Bluefin, but i’ll probably do it once the new website is up and running.

I’ve improved the article generation since last month : articles have now their own proper html pages ! Yippie !

distro of the week

Ah yeah ! You caught me ! I changed distro again !

However this time is different, CachyOS was really nice, and I wouldn’t have mind continuing using it (I was so close to reinstall with Hyprland !), but I was dying of curiosity with what the systems of Universal Blue had to offer !

Universal Blue are making immutable systems (based on Fedora for now) that offer automatic background system updates - so no need to care about them - and tools such as flatpak or homebrew to install apps and programs. I have to admit, it works really well ! They even maintain versions for developpers with QEMU/KVM and Visual Studio Code installed by default - the dream !

I’m currently using Bluefin, their system with an almost vanilla Gnome - and it has dinosaurs as their mascotts !

But why did I try it in the first place ? Long story short, I have a dear friend that knows nothing about Linux, but want something to replace Windows that just works. So I’ve tried distros out until I found them and that’s where it all began.

We’ve just started so not much has happened yet…

However there’s a group that wants to make an “Undertale-like” game for this year, and I’ve joined them as one of the developpers ! I’m very excited to see where this will lead us and what we will achieve ! ^w^

BIG update this time !

back to school

That’s right, studies have started again and it’s going to be interesting : the Linux distro i’m using (CachyOS) is making my life very easy (on Linux) and nothing (that I can’t solve) gets in my way !

Moreover, I feel like I’m being more involved and I feel happy about all of it ! It’s great !

I’m making a HUGE bet, and it’s on the ability of Github action to deploy news from .md files! If it’s bugged, I guess you’ll know soon enough, and I’ll try to fix it ASAP. And I’ve also improved lots of small parts of the website (like reorganising some parts, adding tab navigation between the different buttons, improving the links, etc…)

In the last post I told you I was going to learn NextJS, that was my plan indeed, but in the meantime it changed to Astro (another framework)

And what about now ? Well, I don’t want to lose much time on the website and rather work on more interesting projects, so I’m not going to change, and build my own cozy environment instead, I don’t need more 😄

I have actually changed my mind, the Godot version was on its way, but I believe it’s better as a website It might come back again as a part of this website, but I’ll try to optimize it and make it better overall 👍

So the release date has been postponed due to some technical problems - but I continued working on the website’s design today and it’s starting to look really nice 😎👍

I’ve progressed on my Website and KindSun’s website design 👀

Let’s begin with what changed!

the website

I have reworked some parts of the dark theme and translation systems of my website, now they adapt to the user’s client (finally)

That means, now, if the options are not set manually by the user, it will pick automatically the language/theme of the user’s browser 😎

I also made the theme change snappier so it doesn’t flashbang dark theme users when loading the page (i used to fix it by defaulting to the dark theme but it’s cleaner now)

I made some progress, the core game has successfully been ported to Godot (and even optimised), but all the user interface needs to be done (oh boy)

It’s a discord bot on which my boyfriend has been working on. I’m trying to help him as much as can, mostly by doing all the website for it.

Its planned release date is September 1st - there’s still a lot to be done, I’ll keep working on that this week

I implemented a new translation system for the website, it’s way cleaner now - that very system is being also going to be used for the KindSun website and that’s the main reason of why I made that new system in the first place

I also created a page for the posts on the website, so you can now read the posts directly on the website - I’m not sure about it’s implementation yet, but it exists at this address : themimolet.github.io/posts

I also fixed a minor issue where the tables were not perfectly centered

Recently I uninstalled Roblox because of all the drama that has been going on recently. To summarize, Roblox has never really done anything against child predators and strange meetup places on their platform. And worst they even banned people that were actually doing their job of arresting those pedophiles - and.. to add a bit more fun to the joke.. some people noticed that the chief of security of Roblox might visit those strange places on the platform.. mmh..

I’m also getting less and less active on X - still getting on there to have some news about people I care about, but I don’t think i’ll stay there that much

I removed the Colourguess Game from the site entirely - It had some quirks I hadn’t noticed and I want to port the game on Godot

And I fixed a minor bug in the drop-down style.

Well I can’t promise anything right now - because I’m working on multiple projects and I have a tendency to procrastinate
