I think this screenshot says it all. I knew I was in trouble with the game at “Character Creation”. The Archetypes are all such BS. I took the option to create my own.
Good thing I put those points into Perception.
After suiting up in your Disco-Ass Blazer and Flare Pants (and pointy green shoes). You pop out into the hallway to have a possibly juicy convo with Ms Orange.
Good thing she knows you’re a cop because if your limbic system isn’t raining tips on you, you don’t know jack.
You’ve a police partner of sorts waiting downstairs who is willing to steer you towards solving crimes. Your interviewing skills are non-existent. This note about the “competent work of taxidermy”. Who cares about taxidermy?
What about the corpse that’s been hanging in a tree behind the shop for a week, with a foul mouthed kid throwing rocks at it?
Why bury what might be an interesting mystery behind all of this utter crap? I couldn’t stand it anymore at this juncture. I wanted to punch something. Instead I grabbed my screenshots and uninstalled the “game”. My eye is twitching.
I’ve had the game for awhile and this is my first time playing it. As a science fiction story, we’ve got Colonization of other planets, a Mad Scientist, and a what looks like a Dystopian society, though everyone is forcibly cheerful. Except the Marauders.
You’re rescued from an abandoned Colony Ship by a Mad Scientist, Phineas Vernon Welles.
70 years is too long to have been in suspended animation in this particular story. He rescues you and gives you a special cocktail of his own making to help you stay alive. Will you help him get the materials he needs to go back and rescue the other travelers?
If that is at all possible in the game, that will be what I live and die for. All those people…just left to sleep in space. (sniff).
There’s a contact on the planet Halcyon who will help you.
Oops, smooshed.
Hmm I wonder if I was supposed to loot his body. Tsk.
Halcyon is a pretty place.
In a cave, you meet an injured young man who perkily promotes the platitudes of the company he works for between gasps of pain.
When I offer to go get help, he gives me his pistol and his saber. I took points in both ranged and melee fighting just in case. I tried the gun on the marauders down the path, but it seemed like you had to shoot them too many times to get them down. While you were doing that, his friend popped you. It also seemed that the sound of gunfire brought fire from somewhere above.
Reloading the game, I wielded the saber instead. Using sprint to run up on the two guys, I whacked them with ease. A bit grisly that their limbs went flying about the area, but, they’re not going to come crawling after me, are they? That saber must be sharp.
Speaking of having to reload, the next two NPCs I saw, I ran up on and hacked up as is my way. It turned turned out they were “friendly”. Reload! Brought em back to life, no angry factions after me now, la la la.
Apparently the Lieutenant wants to get a hold of Hawthorne’s ship (my flattened rescuer), but there are four Marauders patrolling in front of the ship, and she’d rather have a nap than deal with them. Zzzzzz.
My first plan of attack was to run up on them and whack whack. One even walked a bit away from the others. Somehow I failed to de-limb her, and she ran back towards the others, and Game Over. I haven’t seen that phrase pop up in ages.
It may take me a few tries and strategies to get these down. Maybe a combination of pistol and saber. They have some awareness of your approach, I don’t know quite what triggers that. No actual stealth skill so far.
I love the ship design and the shape of the buildings that you can see. Definitely in my rotation for August and beyond.
Let’s start at the top with my +100 Luck husband. He finds every rare thing in a game and has no idea what to do with the items, so he gives them to me 🙂
Early in the game he used to spend quite a bit of time Fishing. Somehow, with the Joyous Journey level boosts, he has gotten in constant level up mode. It’s hard to take time for a leisurely activity anymore.
Even so, he began fishing once he got to Northrend, hoping to get fish that would add Spellpower when cooked. In practically his first fishing session he got the Sea Turtle Mount.
I exclaimed about his luck, but he brushed it off, and opined that it was too small for his character, who is a Drenai.
Not long thereafter, I was doing the Daily Dalaran Fishing Quest and fished up a painting that was useless except it sold for 100 gold. I don’t think he’s ever done Daily Quests in a game before but he’s now planted every day in front of the Fishing Trainer waiting for the quest to pop up. He did get the 100 gold once too, but he expects more.
Speaking of Fishing Quests, The Blood is Thicker quest has you kill an animal in the Borean Tundra, and you’re blood red for three minutes. Nice effect on my gryphon.
Why do things go so very wrong on some quests? In Escape from Silverbrook, you’ve helped a fellow get out of a cage. You jump on a horse with him and try to make it back to Amberpine Lodge. On your trail are Worgen you’re supposed to Trample to get them away from you. Things went well the first time I did the quest, but the second time…an overwhelming number of Worgen attacked from all directions. It was insane. Though I did get quest credit, we did not make it back to the Lodge alive.
While we’re talking about awful quests in Wrath Classic’s Grizzly Hills: Mr Floppy’s Perilous Adventure. The awful child Emily skips from one bear to another in an escort mission from Hades. She doesn’t stop to let you fight, she just meanders onward. The road is right in sight but she ignores it for the wild life jaunt. Grrrr.
I love my Steam Library. I mostly just shop during the Steam Sales, but if a franchise item becomes available, I’ll snap it up. Below is the wonderful display Steam makes of a library. Look at those covers! They all hold such promise. I tend to look for Mystery/Detective games because that’s what I read. I’m also a long time science fiction and fantasy reader, with occasional horror in the mix.
There are some franchises I love, and I try to grab all of those. Here we go.
As you see I’m also a Batman fan, though from my comics reading days, Superman was my favorite. I got about halfway through Bendy and the Ink Machine before problems with saved games would have made me re-start the game. Nonetheless, I purchased Bendy and the Dark Revival, which I hope doesn’t have those problems. Bendy the first was really a great, dark, immersive cartoon world.
Big Bioshock fan. Need to get back to Call of the Sea for Blaugust.
Dear Esther, a dread “walking simulator” (the term makes me buggy), didn’t save where it was supposed to thus setting me back inside a terribly monotonous cave. There’s a reason to play MMOS. You never lose your save game spot. I finally purchased Disco Elysium because my son was sure I’d love it. Have not tried it yet.
Clearly a fan of the Elder Scrolls universe. Also Fallout. I re-started Fallout 3, which I liked more than 4. Did not care for Final Fantasy Online. I can’t understand the appeal.
Nice retro stuff in this set. All of those Half Life 2 adds were in a bundle, I wouldn’t have gotten them separately.
I finally cracked and got Heavy Rain for a low low price though I’m too scared to play it. Happens. L A Noir wasn’t playable for me, I can’t recall the problem. Too bad.
I love Mass Effect though I haven’t gotten through all of them. Pure Space Opera, as they used to call it. Why did I buy Metamorphosis about bugs??? Metro Exodus crashed my system and I had to hard reboot. A disappointment, as it sounded really good. Could not get around the error.
My son said not to get Shadow of Mordor, which I recalled seeing him play and it looked interesting. He said Shadow of War was a much better game. Got them both. I started watching the CW Nancy Drew series when it came out (it’s in it’s final season) and went from there to the original book series which were much better than I expected. Now I’m collecting the game series as they’re on sale.
I don’t know why I haven’t tried the Outer Worlds yet. Pure SF. Plants vs Zombies wasn’t any fun at all.
I’ve all these Sherlock Holmes games because…well, its Sherlock. I don’t think I like them though. Sometimes it pays to walk away and go back fresh.
I got Stray because it looked so cool and I wanted to re-unite the cat with his friends. Haven’t tried it yet. Oof I heard so much about Subnautica, and it looks in actual play to be highly claustrophobic. Team Fortress 2 snuck in with all those Half Life 2 games.
I got in trouble in the last Steam Sale trying to snap up all of the old Tomb Raider games for 99 cents each. A big throbbing notice appeared that I had made too many purchases in the last 24 hours and I was blocked from more. Meant to return to snare the rest but did not.
My son ( my game guru) said I should skip to the Witcher 3 because it was so much better. I just have to start at the beginning, though, so it’s The Witcher, which is a fun game but has excessively wonky controls.
Level Up! My level 73 Retribution Paladin is the main character I’m leveling towards 80. I’ve been playing her almost exclusively, just dabbling in a few other characters. Let’s get her to Level 75 as the goal for August.
I also only dabble in the current version of the game, and haven’t any goals there.
Elder Scrolls Online Goals
I’ve modest goals for my Khajiit Templar in ESO.
I started her with the Blackwood Expansion and think I have done the quests there with the exception of two quests. One requires stealth and breaking into a criminal’s office. The other is in a dungeon I died horribly in and am not sure I’m up to it yet.
I think I’ll go fill in the Blackwood Map before moving on. It actually looks like there’s quite a bit to be done. Hmmph.
This Antiquarian Circle Quest came up and sounded intriguing enough. Who doesn’t want to join a Scholarly Society? After completing Blackwood’s map, I’ll go do this quest.
Lord of the Rings Online Goals
I did a foolish thing and boosted my main character. She’s someplace I’ve never heard of and is supposed to do who knows what. The place looks grim.
This character will get her Legendary Weapon set to rights, and her Traits set in August, is the goal. I’ll have to do some research but the Bowmaster set seems most like how I play.
This level 43 Minstrel has been around forever. If I knew how to play her, I don’t anymore. So, the play time this month goes to a fall back Hobbit Minstrel.
Since it’s Blaugust I’ll be revisiting some games I started then sort of left behind. Any progress is good progress. What a hoot if some of these only get advanced each August as post fodder. These will be from my deep Steam Library.
We’re having work done on the house and everything is jammed into the lower level of the house. There is a massive amount of pounding. Whirring noises. Compressor noises.
My spouse is largely inhabiting my computer room/craft room.
Luckily I have my old gaming laptop. I can play and write on the bad boy.
Speaking of bad boys. The dogs don’t like the pounding. They don’t like my lap being “Unavailable”. They pin themselves to each side of the laptop for maximum comfort. Occasionally a loud noise causes the little guy to try to scramble onto the keyboard.
Update 7/31/23 Work is nearly done. Spouse back in his own lair. Dogs still nearby but I’m using my desktop PC where there is no lap. Ahhhhh….
Starting off with a good post title. Right? Everything falls in line from here. Where did I put those fifteen post ideas I had?
I’ll write mostly about World of Warcraft Classic Wrath, because that’s what I play. We can’t be boring though, so I’ll be dipping into my standard fall back games Elder Scrolls Online and Lord of the Rings Online.
The main thing is you’ll want to PLAY this month, for inspiration, relaxation, and perhaps to look at your favorite games through another lens.
Also, read as many blogs from other bloggers as possible, because this will also inspire you to write.
Prepping for Blaugust:
This is my to do list just to be ready to go.
Update all game clients regularly played.
Install any games to be played for Blaugust Posts.
Create an Epic Account (for ideas and perhaps new games of interest) if you don’t have one. As if I need more games.
Update your side bar with a new or refreshed Blogroll, and favorite gaming sites and podcasts. Toss in a few Image icons to make it look more appealing.
Blaugust Post Ideas 2023
Here’s my big list for this year. I’ve used some of the ideas before, but I like them, and it gives me something to write about if I’m stuck for a post. I used to do a post calendar but I always stray from it so this year, just the list, and I’ll try to pre-write and pre-schedule as much as possible. Here’s wishing everyone luck and a good time with Blaugust.

Where I left Them (I’ve done this before, just look at a game that’s still installed but not played in a while. Pick up where you left off, and write about it, or write about why you can’t play it again right now or aren’t interested.)
Another Picture Post: Where’s The Mailbox or Where’s Waldo for the Digital Age (My Spouse used to stand by a mailbox in Classic waiting for me to send his useful items on. I started to recognize where he was in the world just by the mailbox.)

Character Name Makers
LOTRO: Pick a character and update their Traits and Legendary Weapons if they have them. It’s that odd thing, returning to a game that has changed so much you hardly know what to do.
Why Cant I: Ever wonder why you seem unable to do some game related things or play some game you think you should try?
Toss my Galaxies Games Boxes and Notebooks?
Play Horde Characters even to level 10? Too unfamiliar? Feel like an imposter?
Try playing Star Wars The Old Republic? Still loyal to Galaxies? Don’t like the Character Models or Class Choices or Character Race Choices?
Prepping for Blaugust, I thought I’d see if my Twitter Account for Gaming Starlight_Sal was still active. Or, had it been purged when The New Mgt. got rid of all those fake users?
I managed to log into my fake account, which uses a fake name by verifying and getting a code with my fake email for gaming. Now, I’m able to log in to my fake Twitter. Lots of Elder Scrolls stuff, which was all entertaining. Some Gifs about why you should have a pet. (Got two).
If I want to verify my fake self, I apparently can do so, up to the point where they want real person information. Nope.
Anyway, when I signed up for Blaugust, I didn’t list any social media accounts. Cause I’m going to poof all the Twitter ones. I’ve never liked Twitter. No hard feelings there. Of course I used to call Facebook Fecesbook early on because it annoyed me too. But all my family uses it to communicate so keeping that one.
I had a good time during the last Blaugust, so here we are again. All the information you need, plus a handy sidebar list of participants is on Tales of the Aggronaut . The event has been going for ten years. My favorite part is reading all of the daily blog posts. So many different games and other topics and writing styles. Very cool.
I have fifteen post ideas scrawled out so far, so I think I got this (posting every day for 31 days being my only goal). If I can write ahead–always desirable!–I’ll be adding a shiny new Blaugust badge to my sidebar in September. Good luck everyone!
