FOX 44 is not airing the CW shows anymore but...

I emailed the programming over at FOX 44 this morning because they still listed the CW shows on their site, yet their own schedule and other online TV guides didn't show any of the CW shows here is my original email and their reply:

"When I check your homepage, you still list the CW shows airing from 10 pm to midnight. However, when I visit your schedule page and check the other online TV guides, the CW shows are gone from your lineup. Will you keep airing the CW shows? I hope so because without you, we wouldn't have access to them."

FOX 44's answer:

"We are moving the CW line-up over to an all new digital sub channel. It is available over the air on channel 43, which re-maps to channel 44.2 on your digital tuner. We have made the channel available to all of the cable companies, including Videotron in Canada."

I've emailed back asking if they knew the channel that digital sub channel would be at on Videotron. No answer yet.

Luckily, this season MOST of the CW shows I watch also air on CTV or Global. But I also wanted to watch Smallville, Reaper, and Aliens in America. Smallville also airs on Space and Reaper airs on CityTV but my VCR is not set to record those channels. :'(

I'll keep you guys posted on the answer!

Gossip Girl

I just watched the premiere of Gossip Girl on CTV (premieres tomorrow on CW), and I must say I was entertained. It's The O.C. meets Mean Girls meets... pretty much any other teen movie set in school with rich kids!

I'll tune in for more.

Journeyman & Cane

This is not an official review of both shows since I'm too swamped this week. However, I wanted to write a few words on each.

Cane: There was too many storylines going at once. It was confusing me a bit. The actors were good enough for a pilot but the plot doesn't interest me much. It's not a bad series but I'm not sure he'll stick around for long.

Journeyman: Having been a fan of shows like "Early Edition," I was looking forward to watching the pilot even if I hadn't put the show on my "watch list" yet. The pilot was a bit confusing at first because we don't know why he travels back, how he travels back (we see that sort of blur on the screen but what is making him travel?), or how the "when and where" he travels are chosen. Of course, these answers will be revealed in due time for sure. I enjoyed the characters and plot enough for me to want to tune in for the 2nd episode. I may not be the next big series but I think it'll be entertaining to watch if you liked shows like "Early Ed".

When a show you want to love makes you hate it

I just watched the first official episode of Private Practice. It was not good. Not good at all. If this had been the official pilot, I doubt the series would have been picked up. I really wanted to love this series and I hope that the next episodes are better than this because, if not, the show will get canceled quickly especially since it's battling off Criminal Minds, Bionic Woman, Kitchen Nightmares, and Gossip Girl.

It wasn't Cavemen bad (I don't think anything can be as bad) but if I didn't like Kate Walsh and Tim Daly so much, I wouldn't return for more episodes.

My Fall 2007 Watch List

A few people asked me to post what I would watch this Fall. Now before I post it, I need to remind you that I mostly work from home, so I tape most shows and watch them during the day. I have this sort of superpower that allows me to watch TV while working and not having it affect my quality of work (unless something shocking happens on TV... if so, I work a little bit later that day to make up for me watching those scenes more closely). Also, I must watch a lot of shows due to the fact I have SpoilerFix.com to take care of and spoiling shows we don't watch is really difficult.

About my schedule, I'm in Canada so some of our stations sometimes air US shows before or after US stations. This is why you'll see mentions of CTV, Global and CityTV in my schedule. Also, my FOX station airs The CW shows from 10 pm to midnight (we don't have CW here). Finally, I always try to not have more than 2 shows at the same time (I have 2 VCRs, so when I'm away, I can tape both). If I'm home, I'll watch one show and tape the other. Finally, I put a few new shows I haven't seen the pilot of and am curious to watch but may remove from my list if they suck.

MONDAYS:
- 8 pm: Chuck (NBC), Prison Break (FOX)
- 9 pm: Heroes (NBC)
- 9:30 pm: Samantha Who? (ABC)
- 10:30 pm: Aliens in America (FOX)
* No spot in my watch list unless I'm home and tape 2 shows or ask a friend to tape it: 8 pm How I Met Your Mother (CBS)

TUESDAYS
- 8 pm: NCIS (CBS)
- 8:30 pm: Carpoolers (ABC)
- 9 pm: Reaper (CityTV) [When not there, will tape at 11pm on FOX], The Unit (CBS)
*Need to find a way to get Nip/Tuck

WEDNESDAYS:
- 7 pm: Gossip Girl (CTV) [Will watch at 11pm on FOX when CTV moves GG to 8 pm after Dancing with the Stars concludes]
- 8 pm: Pushing Daisies (ABC), Kid Nation (CBS)
- 9 pm: Private Practice (ABC), Bones (Global)

THURSDAYS
- 8 pm: Ugly Betty (ABC), Survivor (CBS)
- 9 pm: Grey's Anatomy (ABC), The Office (NBC)
- 9:30 pm: My Name Is Earl (Global)
- 10 pm: Smallville (FOX)
* No spot in my watch list unless I'm home and tape 2 shows or ask a friend to tape it: 9:30 pm Scrubs (NBC)

FRIDAYS
- 9 pm: Moonlight (CBS)
- 10 pm: Las Vegas (NBC)

SATURDAYS
*nothing!

SUNDAYS
- 8 pm: Desperate Housewives (ABC)
- 9 pm: Brothers & Sisters (ABC)</div>

Pilot Review "K-Ville" (FOX)

Premise: Two years after Katrina, parts of the city are still in chaos, but hope has emerged. Battling an upsurge of violence, understaffing of police forces and a lack of crime labs and other facilities, the cops who remain in the New Orleans Police Department have courage to burn and a passion to reclaim and rebuild their city. Marlin Boulet is a brash, wry, in-your-face veteran of the NOPD’s Felony Action Squad, the specialized unit that targets the most-wanted criminals. Even when his partner deserted him during the storm, Boulet held his post, spending days in the water saving lives and keeping order. Now, two years later, he’s unapologetic about bending the rules when it comes to collaring bad guys. The stakes are too high, and the city too fragile, for him to do things by the book. Boulet’s new partner, Trevor Cobb, was a soldier in Afghanistan before joining the NOPD. He’s tough and committed, but if he’s less than comfortable with Boulet’s methods, it’s because he’s harboring a dark secret. Cobb has come to New Orleans seeking redemption, but redemption can be dangerous. Source: Fox

Starring: Anthony Anderson as Marlin Boulet, Blake Shields as Jeff "Glue Boy" Gooden, Cole Hauser as Trevor Cobb, John Carroll Lynch as Captain James Embry, Maximiliano Hernández as Billy "K-9" Faust, Tawny Cypress as Ginger "Love Tap" LeBeau

Review: This series is tackling a sensitive issue: New Orleans after Katrina. It shows despair, people trying to rebuild the city while others are fleeing the scene, etc.

I haven't seen much on TV of New Orleans being rebuilt (they mostly focused on the tragedy and the first efforts and it looks like the media forgot that people are still suffering and trying to rebuild everything there) but I did, like I'm sure many of you have, imagined how life can be down there right now. K-Ville offers a version of what that could be (I don't know how accurate it is since, as I've said, I haven't seen documentaries or news about it lately. However, since they are shooting on location, my guess is that some stuff must be pretty accurate).

Thanks to the series filming on location, they scenery is quite real and can only make us feel compassionate for those who lost their lives there and those who are trying to bring the city back to life.

The storylines in the pilot were intriguing enough to have me want to know what would happen next. However, I thought the character of Boulet was way too angry (although, maybe I would be in his situation (cop partner left him without saying a word just after Katrina hit, his girlfriend (with daughter in tow) is about to leave him because the city is not safe, his singer friend just got killed, etc.). No matter his reasons, I don't think I could endure watching him be that angry and pissed off week after week (especially since I watch "Prison Break," which will air just before "K-Ville" and is said to be much more darker and angrier this season).

The character of Cobb is quite difficult to grasp during most of the episode and it seemed intentional on the writers' part since he tells his complete story at the end of the episode. So I guess they wanted us to wonder about him. Personally, I think they should have just gave us a bit of his story at the end and not everything. It would have kept the fans wondering and looking forward to more clues about this cryptic character.

The actors are believable. Although, I had a hard time not seeing the character of Ethan from "Lost" when William Mapother was on screen! The soundtrack is fitting for such a show. You have a mixture of blues and rap, etc.

As for the camera work... if you liked the opening scene in "Saving Private Ryan" or the chase scenes in practically any of the "Bourne" movies, you'll like the camera work in "K-Ville." It was too much for my taste though. At times, I felt almost sea sick, other times, it felt almost like a documentary, etc. I must admit though that the use of such a technique was a good idea during the opening scene of the pilot because it made me feel sick which added to the fact that they were showing us the city in chaos right after Katrina.
</div>
"K-Ville" should appeal to people looking for cop stories set in a chaotic city, for stories with people trying to make a difference, etc. FOX did well in putting this after "Prison Break" both series aim to get the same type of viewers. Personally, I will not watch "K-Ville" not only because of what I wrote before but also because I cannot take as much hate, crime, fighting, and trying to make things right, in the same evening... (I've been watching "Prison Break" since day 1 and won't stop in order to watch "K-Ville") plus "Heroes" airs at the same time.

"K-Ville" will air on Mondays at 9 pm EST on FOX. There premiere will air on September 17. Visit the official website of the show.

Pilot Review "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" (FOX)

Premise: At the end of "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," Sarah vanquished the liquid metal Terminator sent from the future to kill her teenage son, John. Sarah and John now find themselves alone in a very dangerous, complicated world. Fugitives from the law, they are confronted with the reality that still more enemies from the future, and the present, could attack at any moment. "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" reveals what happens when Sarah stops running and goes on the offensive against an ever-evolving technological enemy bent on destroying her life, and perhaps the world. Her son, 15-year-old John, knows that he may be the future savior of mankind, but is not yet ready to take on the mantle of leadership that he's told is his destiny. John finds himself inextricably drawn to Cameron, an enigmatic and otherworldly student at his high school, who soon proves to be much more than his confidante she assumes the role of Sarah and John's fearless protector. On their trail are not only threats from the future, but an intelligent and tough FBI agent, James Ellison, who soon becomes a powerful ally. Source: FOX

Starring: Lena Headey, Richard T. Jones, Summer Glau, Thomas Dekker, Owain Yeoman

Review: I've never really been a fan of the "Terminator" movies mostly because I wasn't much into that type of movies when they were released plus I fell victim of "too much hype about a movie can actually ruin it for you." I was expecting so much from those movies (I watched them all when they were released) because critics and fans were rejoicing and saying how fantastic those movies were... I was expecting too much, so the movies somewhat fell flat for me. That said, I tried to stay away from any comments about this TV series so that I would be able to enjoy (or hate) the series on my own terms. Can I say that this was a very good idea? I was impressed by the TV series.

The pilot is action packed from start to finish. That must have been a pricy pilot to produce due to the FX and stunts used in it (FX and stunts are of movie quality). No wonder FOX decided it was a mid-season show; that way the series has enough months to add the needed FX before episodes air.

Even if you never watched the "Terminator" movies or don't remember much about those, you won't be lost when watching the pilot as they take time to establish the characters and explain what is going on. The storyline is interesting and the characters are believable (even if two of them are robots ;)).

The acting is very good. Lena Headey gives a performance that makes us believe she is in distress and on a mission. Summer Glau is as fantastic as her "Firefly"/"Serenity" character: I am a leaf on the wind - watch how I soar.! She simply rocks in "Chronicles."

Sarah narrates here and there in the episode. It's used properly: not too much and provides insight on what is going on.
</div>
"The Sarah Connor Chronicles" is a show to watch. Sadly, it's in a not so good timeslot as it'll go against "Desperate Housewives," "Cold Case" and football. Plus I'm not sure FOX fans will tune in as they are used lately to Sundays to being FOX's animation block, not action-packed dramas. FOX will need to do major advertising for this. But on the plus side, the series is unlike those airing on Sundays at 9 p.m., so maybe it'll reach a new audience not watching the other shows.

"The Sarah Connor Chronicles" will air on Sundays at 9 pm EST on FOX. The premiere date has yet to be confirmed by the network but the show will air midseason. Visit the official website of the show.

Pilot Review "The Big Bang Theory" (CBS)

Premise: [This is] a comedy about brainy best friends Leonard and Sheldon, who can tell you anything you want to know about quantum physics, but when it comes to dealing with everyday life here on earth they're lost in the cosmos. Neither fully understands that scientific principles don't always apply in matters of the heart - until they meet their sexy new neighbor Penny, a friendly screenwriter/waitress from the midwest who also happens to be newly single. She quickly makes an impression on the other members of Leonard and Sheldon's geek squad - Howard Wolowitz, who portrays himself as the Casanova of Cal Tech, and fellow whiz kid Rajesh Koothrappali, who is rendered speechless around anyone unprepared to converse about the Theory of Relativity or other scientific jargon. The chemistry between this gaggle of geniuses and a delightful damsel is about to undergo a stimulating series of inter-personal experiments. Source: CBS

Starring: Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Kunal Nayyar, Simon Helberg

Review: Compared to the other sitcoms airing Mondays on CBS (this show is slated to air on Mondays), "The Big Bang Theory" is a big disappointment.

The script is poor because the writers seem to work too hard in incorporating all sorts of lame or easy jokes. I was expecting more from Chuck Lorre, co-created and executive producer of "Two and a Half Men." "Big Bang" was not as much a disappointment as "Cavemen" though. At least "Big Bang" was able to deliver a few funny jokes and, if acting and writing is improved, could end up being half-decent (and maybe see the 13-ordered episodes air).

The characters are similar to Paulo Costanzo's Michael of NBC's "Joey": highly intelligent geeks working at a university, who are not really social (except online and within their small group of friends) and who don't have a clue as to how women need to be talked to. Even if the plot is nothing new, the writers could do something entertaining if they apply themselves to it (it looked liked they wanted to have the two lead guys say way too much technobabble and wisecrack remarks).

The acting was mostly one dimensional. Granted that they needed to play characters with very little people skills, the two lead guys could have done better to make us care about them and relate. Those who recall what I thought of Cuoco's acting when she guest starred on "Charmed" may be surprised to hear me say that she was probably the best actor of the bunch in this pilot (it tells you how poor I think the acting in "Big Bang" is). Simon Helberg also delivered a fair performance. I think I liked his character more than I did the two lead guys.

The series features a laugh track. Sadly, it is overused and sometimes plays when it's not really that funny. Maybe it's just me but aren't laugh tracks not the trend anymore?
</div>
The series could have some potential if the writing and acting is improved. It may do not too bad in ratings thanks to the fact that it's part of CBS' Monday comedy lineup. However, I'm not sure it'll do much better that "The Class" did... I'm not giving much hope to "Big Bang".

"The Big Bang Theory" will air on Mondays at 8:30 pm EST on CBS. There premiere will air on September 24. Visit the official website of the show.

Pilot Review "Bionic Woman" (NBC)

Premise: Struggling as a bartender and surrogate mom to her teenage sister, Jaime Sommers didn't think life could get much harder. But when a devastating car accident leaves her at death's door, Jaime's only hope for survival is a cutting-edge, top-secret technology that comes at a hefty price. With a whole new existence and a debt to re-pay, Jaime must figure out how to use her extraordinary abilities for good, while weighing the personal sacrifices she will have to make. Ultimately, it's Jaime's journey of self-discovery and inner strength that will help her embrace her new life as the Bionic Woman. Source: NBC

Starring: Chris Bowers, Katee Sackhoff, Lucy Hale, Michelle Ryan, Miguel Ferrer, Molly Price, Will Yun Lee

Review: If you are looking for an action packed drama filled with conspiracy, blackmail, blood, fights, etc., "Bionic Woman" will be for you!

The pilot sucks you right in the action and the mystery behind the show. Of course, the action doesn't last the 42 minutes of the episode since they have to introduce the characters but there is a lot going on and it'll keep you entertained.

The actors (except Mae Whitman, I'll get to her in a moment) are really believable and make us feel what they are going through. As for Whitman, she will not be part of the series as the show recast her role after the pilot. Since her role on "Arrested Development," the actress tried to play angry teenage girls but she is not really good at it (she is best in roles such as the one she had on AD). So they recast the role and supposedly, the character will not be deaf anymore. Miguel Ferrer plays a character that is highly similar to his "Crossing Jordan" role. The difference? His "Bionic" role is clean shaven!

The camera work, editing, and the some effects are well done. However, the FX of Jamie running in the woods as she escapes the compound is not well-done. Let's hope they tweak that before the pilot airs.

The storyline are intriguing and interesting. The fact that there are two bionic women (the original and Jamie) can bring countless of storylines, twists and turns. Especially since the "original" one is a bad seed!

The soundtrack helps highlight what is going on.

</div>
"Bionic Woman" is promising. If only it aired in another timeslot, I would probably give it a shot. But I already have two series to follow in that timeslot ("Bones" and "Private Practice"), I can't add a third one.

"Bionic Woman" will air on Wednesdays at 9 pm EST on NBC. There premiere will air on September 26. Visit the official website of the show.

Pilot Review "Aliens in America" (The CW)

Premise: Justin Tolchuk is a sensitive, lanky 16-year-old just trying to make it through the social nightmare of high school in Medora, Wisconsin, with the help of his well-meaning mom Franny, aspiring-entrepreneur dad Gary, and his popular sister Claire, who is sweetly unaware of how good-looking she is. When Franny signs up for the school's international exchange student program, she pictures an athletic, brilliant Nordic teen who will bestow instant coolness on her outsider son. However, when the Tolchuk's exchange student arrives, he turns out to be Raja Musharaff, a 16-year-old Pakistani Muslim. Despite the cultural chasm between them, Justin and Raja quickly develop an unlikely friendship that just might allow them to navigate the minefield that is contemporary high school. Source: The CW

Starring: Adhir Kalyan, Amy Pietz, Dan Byrd, Lindsey Shaw, Scott Patterson

Review: First, I must warn you that I saw the version of the pilot that will not air on The CW because they changed the actor who plays the father (Patrick Breen played the dad in the pilot and was replaced by Gilmore Girls' Scott Patterson). I didn't know what to expect as I didn't like the crop of sitcoms CW tried to offer us in its first year. However, "Aliens in America" is not that bad, actually, it's surprised me. I'm not sure how long it'll survive though since it's going against some well established shows ("Prison Break" to name one) and promising new shows (NBC's "Chuck").

This series tackles the subject of culture differences while also dealing with everyday problems teens live. There is a nice touch of humor and some light drama. Don't expect this comedy to make you laugh out loud though but it'll entertain you and make you think.

The lead character, Justin, narrates throughout the episode. A bit like "Desperate Housewives" do (and countless of other shows), "Aliens" features flashbacks to explain some events in the present. They also use different camera and editing tricks such as freezing frames while Justin narrates. What is nice is that the writers didn't try to make Justin sound too sophisticated or mature in his narration (some shows do that); instead, when Justin narrates he is as insecure as in "real life."

There is an efficient mixture of hip songs and instrumental pieces throughout the pilot and it is used properly to highlight what is going on.

The actors deliver a proper performance. The actor playing Justin seems out of place at times but that may be because it's the pilot and he doesn't have loads of experience. The person who surprised me most was Amy Pietz. I remember her from her "Caroline in the City" days and I recall thinking back then that she wasn't that good in that type of series. However, in "Aliens" she gives a good performance and is believable as the mother. The way the role of the father is written, I wonder how Scott Patterson will fit. Maybe I'm doubtful because I only saw him play Luke on "Gilmore Girls"... for sure, his addition will help bring some people over.

Except the exchange student entering the family and going to his first day of school in the U.S., the storylines are nothing too original (the teen girl wants to get on the pill, Justin has his name put on the "Most bangable chicks" list at school, etc.) but the writers could write about some interesting stuff now that the exchange student is in place.
</div>
"Aliens in America" looks like a comedy (it's not a sitcom) that could be promising but, as I've said earlier, I'm not sure how long it'll last due to the competition... I'll also throw in that I'm not sure how the CW audience will react either but we could be surprised. The only reason I *may* add "Aliens" is because CW shows air from 10 p.m. to midnight where I live. If that wasn't the case, I would pass on the show. It did surprise me but it didn't wow me.

"Aliens in America" will air on Mondays at 8:30 pm EST on The CW. There premiere will air on October 1. Visit the official website of the show.
Pilot Review "Lipstick Jungle" (NBC)

Premise: This fun dramedy follows three high-powered friends as they weather the ups and downs of lives lived at the top of their game. Nico, editor-in-chief of a hot fashion magazine, wants to replace her boss as CEO. Movie exec Wendy finds even her most earnest efforts may not be enough to balance career and family. And free-spirited designer Victory longs to make her dreams come true, and maybe find Mr. Right along the way. Armed with humor and strength, these three modern New York women support one another through the triumphs and tears that are all part of making it big in the Big Apple. Source: NBC

Starring: Brooke Shields, Christopher Wiehl, David Alan Basche, David Norona, Julian Sands, Kim Raver, Lindsay Price [Note: Some of these actors were replaced over the summer.]

Review: I must admit that at first I wasn't sure how I would like this series mostly because I thought that Lindsay Price didn't fit with the two other actresses. I've followed Price in "90210" and "Pepper Dennis," just to mention two roles, and wasn't sure she would be able to deliver the goods in that role. Luckily, she fits her character well.

The "Lipstick Jungle" pilot delivered a fair product. The acting was good enough for us to care about the characters, the storylines were interesting and tackled the difficulties women in such fields as fashion, movie producing, and magazine editing, can go through. It's not easy to be a leader in a men's world. We don't only see what they go through at work but at home too, and it's not pretty. If this mixture of work and family is kept, "Lipstick Jungle" will be entertaining even if not the best series out there. Also, the ending helps raise the stakes for all three women.

As I've said, the acting wasn't bad at all. The person that delivered the weakest performance was Wiehl and he's been recast. Having gone through my teen years when Andrew McCarty was making around two movies a year, I was happy to see him back on the screen even if his character is a lovable a$$ (and the $$ signs have two meanings here). I hope that he sticks around in at least a recurring capacity as it could bring good storylines between his character and Price's.

One thing I would change in the editing is those "end of act ___" screens. They do not add anything to the show and feel out of place. I hope they were just there to show the network how they break down each episode.

"Lipstick Jungle" doesn't revolutionize television but it's enjoyable. Sadly, it is set to air against ABC's "Brothers & Sisters," an established series which wants to attract the same viewers as "Jungle". Between "St Elmo's Fire" costars Rob Lowe and Andrew McCarty, most people will side with Lowe, me included (yes, after not having been able to finish the "B&S" pilot, I'm now catching up on the series by watching the summer reruns!).
</div>
I doubt "Lipstick Jungle" will be part of my viewing schedule because I have other shows to watch in that timeslot. However, it's a series I would give a chance if I had more time.

"Lipstick Jungle" will air on Sundays at 10 pm EST on NBC. There premiere will air on January 20, 2008.
Pilot Review "Cavemen" (ABC)

Premise: Cavemen is a unique buddy comedy that offers a clever twist on stereotypes and turns race relations on their head. Inspired by the popular Geico Insurance commercials, the series looks at life through the eyes of the ultimate outsiders - three modern cavemen - as they struggle to find their place in the world. Joel, his cynical best friend, Nick, and easy-going little brother, Jamie, are contemporary cavemen who live in the suburban south and simply want to be treated like ordinary thirty-something guys. Despite their attempts at assimilation, Nick doesn't believe mainstream society will ever completely accept them, Jamie seems to take it all in stride and Joel straddles the middle, torn between his friends, his more traditional values and his loving fiance. Source: ABC

Starring: Bill English, John Heard, Kaitlin Doubleday, Nick Kroll, Sam Huntington, Stephanie Lemelin.

Review: As you know, I try not to read too much on series before I review them so I don't have an already-made opinion before watching the pilot. However, it is difficult to avoid everything. For "Cavemen," I knew as soon as they announced the project over the winter that I wouldn't like the series since I don't like those Geico commercials (plus, and I'll be rather harsh here, I knew I wouldn't be able to watch cavemen for 30 minutes each week... I just don't see the visual appeal). Nonetheless, since ABC decided to pick the series up, I thought that maybe there was something there that I just didn't know. Could the network that gave us "Desperate Housewives," "Alias," and new series "Pushing Daisies" be so wrong when selecting new series? It seems so.

I must warn you that I watched the unaired pilot. This is not the version of the pilot that will air on ABC in October since the network asked for a series overhaul and some roles were recast. Nonetheless, I do not understand why on earth ABC decided to order 13 episodes of such a bad series. Remember that they decided to pick up the series based on the pilot I did watch.

"Cavemen" advertises itself as a comedy. I did not laugh, smirk, smiled, giggled, etc., once. There is just no comedy in there. The writing is not good and the storyline is rather unoriginal (most movies featuring someone who is out of place (from a different century, planet, etc., for example) tackled most of what is in the pilot in some form. The actors were okay but not stellar. The pilot didn't offer me something good enough for me to identify myself to the characters or at least get attached enough to want to follow their story.

The only thing that was good in the pilot: the soundtrack. That says it all!
</div>
"Cavemen" will NOT be on my "to watch" list. Actually, I don't think it'll last long even if there is a HUGE overhaul since it's not that attractive a series and it is going to air against well established series.

"Cavemen" will air on Tuesdays at 8 pm EST on ABC. There premiere will air on October 2.
Pilot Review "Chuck" (NBC)

Premise: [This is a] comedic spy thriller about Chuck Bartowski - a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. When Chuck opens an e-mail subliminally encoded with government secrets, he unwittingly downloads an entire server of sensitive data into his brain. Now, the fate of the world lies in the unlikely hands of a guy who works at Buy More. Instead of fighting computer viruses, he must fight assassins and international terrorists. With the government's most precious secrets in Chuck's head, Major John Casey of the NSA assumes the responsibility of protecting him. His partner is the CIA's top agent (and Chuck's first date in years) Sarah Walker. They'll keep him safe by trading in his pocket protector for a bulletproof vest. Source: NBC

Starring: Adam Baldwin, Joshua Gomez, Natalie Martinez, Sarah Lancaster, Yvonne Strzechowski, Zachary Levi

Review: Yay! Adam Baldwin is back on TV! Even though I preferred him in his Firefly role, he fits well in the role of Major John Casey in this new NBC series.

I hadn't read much about "Chuck" before watching the pilot but from what I had read, I wasn't sure how this series would be like... But I was curious and the pilot piqued my interest enough for me to watch the first few episodes this Fall before officially deciding if I would tune in or tune out.

It's not easy reviewing pilots after having watched something like "Pushing Daisies." The bar is raised and I'm afraid I may be too hard on shows like "Chuck." This new NBC series started a bit slow for me (even though there is a spy scene at the beginning, blood, an explosion, a murder, etc.). If I set that action scene aside, I actually thought the opening of "Chuck" shared similarities with "Reaper," especially since the two have their lead characters be in the same age range, both work for a big store, they each have a "weird" yet fun sidekick, and are both "losers" to some extent of that stereotype. But eventually, the action picks up and we start to piece everything together and understand how can someone like Chuck because an unlikely secret agent!

Now that the premise and characters are in place, I'm pretty sure that the subsequent episodes will be better. It'll be interesting to see how Casey and Walker work together to solve crimes and protect Chuck. It'll also be fun to see Casey pretend to work at Buy More! He so doesn't have the personality for it. What will also help "Chuck" is the fact that they were able to also add a twist at the last minute that'll have fans try to make sense of it ... is the person friend or foe? (I won't discuss it more as this is where I draw the spoilers line.)

The premise is interesting and it could be promising if the writers apply themselves. Since Chuck "absorbed" countless amounts of information, the possibilities are endless, especially if they (CIA or NSA) train him a bit to go on missions.

I was a huge "Alias" fan, so I couldn't help but make some comparison. However, "Chuck" is nothing like "Alias" especially in the tone. "Chuck" is fun and light. "Alias" was more serious and dark. The feel of this new NBC series will suit Monday nights at 8 p.m. well. But will it be enough? NBC hasn't been that lucky with that timeslot in the past... even if "Heroes" airs after it.

The actors portray their characters well enough. However, something felt off when I watched Sarah Lancaster play Chuck's sister and I can't quite put my finger on it. She isn't bad in that role but she isn't at the top of her game... but I'll let it slide since it's a pilot and it usually takes a few episodes for actors to properly get in their role.

My brain doesn't recall much of a soundtrack. So if there was one, it didn't help nor hurt the action.

"Chuck" was able to entertain me for length of the pilot (even though it was slow for me at first) and for sure I'll give it a chance even if it isn't on my "must watch list".
</div>
"Chuck" will air on Mondays at 8 pm EST on NBC. There premiere will air on September 24.
Pilot Review "Pushing Daisies" (ABC)

Premise: Once upon a time, a mild-mannered boy named Ned realized he could touch dead things and bring them back to life. Grown-up Ned puts his ability to good use, not only touching dead fruit and making it ripe with everlasting flavor, but working with an investigator to crack murder cases by asking the deceased to name their killers. But the tale gets complicated, as all tales do, when Ned brings his childhood sweetheart, Chuck, back from the dead and keeps her alive. Chuck encourages him to use his power to help others, instead of merely solving mysteries and collecting the rewards. Life would be perfect for Ned and Chuck, except for one cruel twist: If he ever touches her again, she'll go back to being dead, this time for good. Source: ABC

Starring: Anna Friel, Chi McBride, Jim Dale, Kristin Chenoweth, Lee Pace, Swoosie Kurtz.

Review: I had high expectations for this series since most critics said that this would be a show to watch. The "Pushing Daisies" pilot totally delivered.

Seconds before I was about to click on the play button, I received an email from a SpoilerFix.com visitor who asked me if I thought the pilot shared similarities with "Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain" and with "Big Fish." I never watched the latter, but having watched "Amélie" countless times, I could make the connections when watching the "Pushing Daisies" pilot. Even without that email, I would have totally made the connection.

"Pushing Daisies" features a narration track that is highly similar to the one in "Amélie." The narrator presents characters by telling their ages in years, months, days, hours and minutes for example, which is similar to what the movie does. The way the narrator talks is a lot like how the "Amélie" narrator speaks. Even though "Daisies" narration is nothing original when comparing to the movie, it will be a refreshing addition to TV as many shows using that technique aren't really original or unique with it.

The series also shares another thing with "Amélie": the soundtrack. "Daisies" soundtrack is mostly a lively instrumental track that sounds really similar to what is used in "Amélie". Our SF's visitor told me that one of the songs we hear during a scene set in the aunts' house is also featured in "Amélie" (my brain can't remember all of the movie's songs so...).

What also struck me with the "Pushing Daisies" pilot is the camera work (some also similar to what we can see in "Amélie"). There is a blend of camera angles that go from wide to very close to having the camera at the feet of a character and looking up to make said character look bigger. The pilot also featured a fun claymation/live action bit where young Ned and Chuck play Gozilla wrecking a village (the villagers are in claymation). One would expect a show about death to be dark but "Pushing Daisies" uses highly colorful settings and that, even when we meet the deceased characters. The pilot also featured flashbacks. It is unknown if the future episodes of the series will feature various techniques such as claymation but it will likely have more flashbacks here and there.

Maybe the storyline is not 100% original in the sense that it's not the first show we see where the main character can talk to the dead, but "Daisies" puts a twist on it since the main character can revive them for 1 minute. Passed that minute, someone else will die. Ned learned that the hard way when, as a child, he revived his mother which ended up in the death of Chuck's father. He also learned about the fact that if he touches those he revived again, they will go back to the dead, in a sad and twisted way (I'll let you discover that when you watch the premiere). I'm glad that all main characters (except the aunts) know about his power and help him out. It's not easy for Ned to never touch the dog he revived when he was a child... or to never touch Chuck again. The two of them find sweet little ways to touch without touching. For example, Ned asks Emerson to give Chuck a hug for him. It'll be interesting to see if Ned ever finds a way to be able to touch Chuck. The storyline ideas for this series are endless since they can have a "case of the week" along with mysteries that last longer.

The actors are well cast and deliver a performance that makes us believe in them. The aunts were okay in the pilot but, unless they learn of Chuck's resurrection, they may turn out to be not needed. Friel and Pace are really sweet as Chuck and Ned.

Right now, the only bone I could pick against the show is the town's name "Couer d'Couer". If they wanted to have the name of the town be "heart of heart" then, their spelling is wrong. It should be "Coeur d'coeur". If that is the case, it'll bug me forever! lol If it was done on purpose, it would be nice at one point to have the mayor, maybe during the town's anniversary, explain that they made a mistake when reprinting the name of the town when they created it! I could live with that ;) In any case, it won't bother me enough to not watch the series.
</div>
As you can see, I LOVED the pilot. It entertained me, it was different, it was charming, and 42ish minutes was way too short! I can't wait for the end of September for this series to begin.

"Pushing Daisies" will air on Wednesdays at 8 pm EST on ABC. There premiere will air on September 26. Visit the official website of the show.

Pilot Review "Californication" (Showtime)

Premise: This comedy centers on novelist Hank Moody who struggles to raise his 13-year-old daughter, while still carrying a torch for his ex-girlfriend Karen. His obsession with truth-telling and self-destructive behavior -- drinks, drugs and relationships -- are both destroying and enriching his career. Source: Showtime

Starring: David Duchovny, Evan Handler, Madeleine Martin, Madeline Zima, Natascha McElhone.

Review: A few months ago, I had the chance to read scripts of various pilots pitched to networks. "Californication" was one of them. At that time, I had a very hard time picturing Duchovny in the role because I kept seeing his "X-Files" role in my mind. And even though I enjoy "Nip/Tuck" a lot, I'm not a huge fan of the cursing/sex/drugs/rock and roll-type of series. So I had doubts on "Carlifonication." However, I was eager to see if my opinion would change when watching the pilot. I'll admit it somewhat changed... but not completely.

Let's deal with the first problem I had when reading the script: I couldn't picture Duchovny in the role of Hank Moody because I kept seeing Mulder in my mind. Moody is a total opposite from Mulder. He may be similar to other roles Duchovny played as I didn't watch all his work. No matter, most TV fans will remember Mulder and not the other roles. I must admit, Duchovny did really good in portraying Moody in the pilot. At some point, I even stopped picturing Mulder (since the character is so burned on my retina, it'll take a lot for me to forget him when watching the actor). The wardrobe and makeup department did good in making Duchovny look rugged and, let's face it, like an a$$ (sorry for the language but it's nothing compared to the one used in the pilot). Duchovny was able to tap into his acting skills to properly portray the loser that is Moody. His character can also be compared to "Nip/Tuck's" Christian Troy in the sense that Moody sleeps with any woman who wants him (and he doesn't ask for an ID card to check the age).

The pilot was almost a word-for-word from the script so I wasn't much surprised at anything. However, people who didn't read on the series before watching the pilot and who forgot they are watching a Showtime series may be offended by the language Moody uses, the sex scenes, and Moody's pre-teen daughter's actions. Those who are tired of censors removing curse words and not allowing racy scenes to air will find what they need in "Californication" (and ladies, censors didn't remove the shot of Duchovny's behind ;) ).

The storyline is entertaining since you want to know how low Moody will go and how twisted is life is. However, the pilot doesn't leave you wanting that more from the series. My guess is that most people will want to tune in for subsequent episodes mostly because they want to watch Duchovny. But the pilot does set up possibilities for the writers. Every character has some flaw that can be tapped in and they all interconnect in ways that could become interesting.

The actors were believable (even the actress portraying the 12-year-old). I didn't notice much of a soundtrack but it may be there and I just didn't notice. Camera work is fine, nothing original or bad.
</div>
"Californication" entertained me enough to not want to stop watching before the end. However, I'm not sure that I'll tune in for more... depends what else TV offers me in August and early September.

"Californication" will air on Mondays at 10:30 pm EST on Showtime. There premiere will air on August 13. The networked ordered 12 episodes so far.

Pilot Review "Reaper" (The CW)

Premise: For the first 20 years of his life, Sam wondered why his parents went so easy on him. Whether it was school, sports or career choices, Sam's mom and dad always let him get by with the least possible effort, while at the same time pressuring his younger brother Keith to excel. As a result, Sam skipped college, took a dead-end job and now wastes endless hours playing video games and wishing he had the guts to ask out his pretty co-worker, Andi. Everything in his slacker world changes the day Sam turns 21 and discovers the ungodly reason his parents let him slide: they sold his soul to the devil before he was born. Satan himself drops by to personally explain that Sam must now serve as his bounty hunter, tracking down evil souls that have escaped and returning them to Hell. Source: The CW. [Note: Complete version of the premise can be found HERE]

Starring: Allison Hossack, Andrew Airlie, Bret Harrison, Donavon Stinson, Kyle Switzer, Missy Peregrym, Ray Wise, Rick Gonzalez, Tyler Labine, Valarie Rae Miller.

Review: Because of the word on the street (aka the Internet), I had high expectations for "Reaper." I didn't fully know what to expect since I rarely read anything about new series (except the Upfronts press releases) so to make my own opinion when watching the pilot.

"Reaper" is said to be a drama but it's more a dramedy. There are some funny little things throughout the pilot such as the "tool" Sam is given to catch the evil soul, the fact the Satan loves hockey, and Sam's friend Sock, the sort-of conspiracy theorist afficionado.

TV fans who watched "Dead Like Me" won't be able to stop themselves from comparing the two series. What is nice is that as I compared, I started thinking that maybe there were reapers like Sam in the DLM world and vice versa. They could have co-existed. DLM reapers took souls from yet-to-be deceased people so they could move on. "Reaper" reapers catch souls who escaped from Hell. Both bunch do a good deed, even if the latter works for Satan.

The storyline in the "Reaper" pilot was intriguing at first. Why are Sam's parents so nice? When we see weird things happen to Sam we ask ourselves what is going on. Then, Satan appears: what does he want. And even when we learn about the deal Sam's parents made with the devil, we are still intrigued as to what exactly will Sam have to do for the devil and for how long. However, I didn't care much for the storyline where Sam tries to get the girl but is too chicken... It's overdone. They'll need to spice that up a lot. Sam's family doesn't bring much either right now so I expect some action with them soon otherwise, they are not needed as regulars. I wonder if Satan will eventually order Sam to grab a soul of someone Sam thought was a good person?

What is also interesting is that Sam immediately brings two of his friends (also coworkers at a Wallmart-type store) in on his Satan work. They actually help him catch the evil soul. Of course, Sam is not truthful to everyone which will make things interesting in the coming episodes (will he be able to keep his "other" work a secret? what will he and his friends do to explain them doing weird things and vanishing from time to time?).

About half the cast is relatively unknown to most TV watchers. However, some of the casting was well done. Ray Wise as Satan is delish! When I think of "Twin Peaks," I actually still see his creepy character. So that adds to me believing him as Satan. Bret Harrison also fits his character very well. Tyler Labine is perfect in the role of sock. He totally has the style for this sort of conspiracy/weird things fan character. A nice casting stunt in the pilot was that of Christine Willes, from "Dead Like Me," who plays one of Satan's workers. She actually works at the DMV (aka hell on earth) where she collects the souls gathered by the reapers. I sure hope we see her again in that role.

The soudtrack was okay. There are about two songs in the entire episode. They didn't add much to the pilot but didn't distract us either. The camera work is usual for this type of series. Nothing that was spectacular or really original in that area.

The actors performed fairly. I wasn't distracted by bad acting and they were believable enough for me not to constantly remember where else I saw them.

The pilot didn't wow me but it entertained me. I love fantasy and sci fi series and I miss "Dead Like Me" a lot. So "Reaper" will fill that void.
</div>
Based on the pilot, I doubt the show will be on my list of favorite shows; however, it is a show I'll definitely add to my watching list.

"Reaper" will air on Tuesdays at 9 pm EST on The CW. There premiere will air on September 25. Visit the official website of the show.

The Amazing Race: Bye bye my favorite team :'(

Cold Case: I usally don't watch that show, but since I had nothing else to watch, I didn't flip the channels after watching TAR. I must say, being a 80s and early 90s music fan, I loved the soundtrack of tonight's episode! Now I need to get all those songs in MP3!

Great work from Roxann Dawson in directing tonight's CROSSING JORDAN. The camera shots she ordered from the "not dead" man were almost making me claustrophobic. The episode seemed a bit far fetched but scary... imagine being in that guy's place. That said, I won't say more as all I've written so far was shown in previous... saying more would be... spoilerish ;)

Episode 1.17: Company Man

Live blogging tomorrow's episode as it airs tonight on GLOBAL TV

- Matt and Ted go to the Bennets to get answers Matt couldn't get at PrimaTech.
- The Bennets arrive and Ted convinces Matt to stay and get answers NOW.
- Flashbacks are in B&W. The first we see his Eric Robert's character hiring HRG to work at PrimaTech and its "secret" mission. He presents HRG his new partner... someone who is in the room but can't be seen. Found whom it is yet? ;)
- Back to the present, Matt discovers Claire's mind wasn't erased by the Haitian. He and Ted believe, and make Claire believe, that HRG gave them those powers. They demand a cure!
- Matt and Claire talk and think alone in a room. They talk about being different, about powers and Peter.
- In another flashback, we see Robert's character, HRG, his partner, Hiro's dad, young Hiro, and baby Claire. Hiro's dad holds Claire and orders HRG to take her home. He reminds him that Claire is theirs not his....
- Back at the Bennets, Matt wants to leave but Ted wants to stay to have HRG give them a cure. Matt can't read HRG easily because he thinks in Japanese. Things soon turn ugly when Ted goes wacko. Matt wants to make things okay. So he works with Claire and HRG to make things better but to do so, someone has to get shot...
- HRG tries to explain Matt and Claire that he didn't make them that way...
- Matt and HRG convinces Ted that he can get evidence by going at PrimaTech with HRG. Ted decides to not go and has Matt go with HRG. He gives them 1 hour. If they are not back in time, he'll go kaboom!
- In a flashback, when his wife gets suspicious, HRG is introduced to the mute Haitian.
- At PrimaTech, HRG wants to get something else than a file to calm Ted down. Matt, HRG and the Haitian argue (yes, HRG now knows Haitian can talk) about what to do next and about Claire.
- At the Bennets, when Ted goes upstairs, someone sneaks downstairs to help the remaining Bennets... Ted quickly learns what is going on and chaos ensues... but he eventually regains control.
- In another flashback, HRG has to take care of an "invisible" security leak.... and he does so :(
- When HRG, Haitian, and Matt come back to the house, they have Ted's file. They try to talk some sense into him but as they do it, someone enters the house and shoots, which has Ted lose control and become all radioactive. The house starts to burn. HRG, who brought a tranquilizer, wants to inject Ted but it's too hot... can someone else save the day?
- Later, Matt and Ted are in PrimaTech's "hospital" wing. HRG finds a way to keep his job but what will he do when he is asked to bring Claire in?
- Flashbacks show HRG get his HRG ;) And Claire learn that she is adopted.
- The episode ends with HRG making a great sacrifice.

Awwwwww... HRG is my favorite character now ....

Dear fellow Canadian friends,

Global TV has decided to air THE BLACK DONNELLYS on Mondays at 10pm. This means that, at least for this week, HEROES will air on Sunday at 9pm. Yep, you've read right, we'll get the episode 24h before the US. And it is supposed to be a rocking episode! Same thing for the March 5 episode, it'll air on Sunday, March 4 at 9pm EST on Global! Yippee!!!

It is unknown if this will continue for the other weeks. I guess it will depend if PRISON BREAK is a rerun or not. Global might decide to air HEROES at 8pm when PB is a rerun...

The O.C. finale...

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww it's over......... and again, as they did with all finales, production made sure that every source of spoilers/gossip would have foilers... but this time, most of the foilers were accurate but just for the wrong people... some didn't come true, but it doesn't mean that they weren't planned to happen and just ended up being cut either before they shot or when they edited.

Here is a run down of the foilers/spoilers as I know some people like to see how things came to be in the episodes:

Spoilers to screen (I won't bother with the FOX description and stuff from the promo pics since that was 100% accurate and the stuff said by Schwartz)

# 02/10 - The series concludes six months after an earthquake rocked Newport. Taylor has an appointment with a seamstress while the fate of “The Valley” is revealed. Source: TV Guide Online = 6 months later was accurate. We didn't see the appointment with the seamstress and that info was misleading as it wasn't for a wedding dress. The fate of "The Valley" was indeed revealed.

# 02/07 - If Autumn Reeser's dress-fitting wasn't enough of a clue, lemme come right out and say there will be a wedding! Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide = Somewhat misleading but not inaccurate as there was a wedding and Taylor needed a bridesmaid dress.

# 01/27 - Taylor and her mother are in San Diego looking to buy a house that looks exactly as their old house. Julie and Kaitlin are not seeing eye to eye, which may cause the latter to run away. Ryan visits his brother and tells him about a safety deposit box their father kept for them. Summer and Seth go to a rabbit ranch. The Cohens are trying to get their house back in shape. Source: SpoilerFix.com = Taylor + Mom was in fact Seth and Ryan looking to buy back the Cohens house. Julie and Kaitlin didn't see eye to eye about the Frank situation and she "ran away" to meet with Frank. That Ryan and Trey thing didn't happen at all. Summer and Seth didn't go to a rabbit ranch but I guess they did "off screen" as all those rabbits needed a home. The Cohens did try to get their house back in shape but couldn't.

# 01/24 - The series finale picks up six months after everyone's world gets, um, "shaken up"; there's a special event that requires Autumn Reeser to, as she blabbed to me at press tour, get "fitted for a certain dress"; we will learn the fate of Summer's favorite soap-within-a-soap, "The Valley"; and Ryan will appear in the final scene. Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide = 6 months/fitted dress/soap all commented on before. Ryan was indeed in the final scene.

# 01/24 - "I'm not forgetting the support we got, and continue to get, from The O.C. at Boalt fans," says Schwartz, referring to UC Berkeley's law students, who even started a scholarship in the name of the series' attorney dad, Sandy Cohen. "I'm going to do a very special homage to them in the final episode." Source: Inside Bay Area = Sandy became a prof there!

# 01/24 - Taylor will go to Paris to attend a funeral. Source: SpoilerFix BuddyTV Spoilers Chat = It turned out that Taylor traveled from Paris to OC to attend a wedding.

# 01/21 - Veronica, Taylor's mom, is not happy when a building inspector says that it will cost more to fix her house than to rebuild it completely. A Bullit-type teenager drops by El Pavo Guapo and hits on Kaitlin. Taylor travels to Paris. Source: SpoilerFix.com = Kirsten and Sandy were the ones not happy with the building inspector. There wasn't only "a" Bullit-type but MANY. Taylor was in Paris and traveled to OC.

---

the final season was so good and entertaining.... No Marissa! YAY! Taylor+Ryan=YAYAYAY!!! Sweet finale :( Plus nice little hints at the past and good way to settle the future. I'm really glad that throughout the series Kirsten and Sandy remained a strong couple with great values. We needed one as most tv couples are screwed. And fun how they had Julie wrestle with her love life as ALWAYS! lol She not getting married is totally making sense. So cool to have the Cohens get their house back Awwww a Cohen hug.... Awwww a Ryan/Seth hug..... Awwww Ryan remembering his life in the house and how he went from point A to B :'( Awww even if I don't like Marissa, I'm glad they showed the first time he laid eyes on her as she was a big part of his life and the show. Sandy is now a professor! Really cool :D WTF? Bullit and Frank are still in Julie's life? Summer and Seth got married!!!! Awww Ryan helping a kid in need like he was :'( The only thing that was missing for me is knowing that Ryan and Taylor were indeed together in the end. Can I pretend that she was waiting for him back at their house when he came home with that kid in need?

OC Season 4, I'll miss you. Thanks for those 16 cool episodes!

I'll so rewatch it when it airs on CTV Saturday night.
