Whether you’re a newcomer renter or long-time homeowner, Toronto’s housing market can be difficult to navigate, and many Torontonians aren't aware of the resources available to them. In this explainer, we share examples of information gaps, as well as instances when Torontonians successfully navigated housing issues thanks to knowledge of existing resources.
In this series, we break down the basics: everything you need to know about Toronto's housing market. There’s a glossary of housing terms you might come across, tools for renters and for homeowners covering resources from municipal and provincial governments, local and national organizations and relevant TGL guides. We also share new guides to navigate maintenance issues.
On May 21, we’re hosting an in-person Action Journey event at Youngplace in West Queen West with Story Circles and resources tables, including Federation of Metro Tenants Association, Action Centre for Tenants Ontario and more organizations. Come for the conversation and snacks, then stay for the housing solutions brainstorming session.
Event attendees brainstormed strategies and actions to get your Toronto housing journey on track. The solutions that came up include talking to friends about housing, creating spaces for neighbours to organize together, keeping paper trails of tenancy documents and more.
