Soft Landscaping in the Garden
In my last post, I mentioned that I was going without Mo Salah for GW4, which is exactly what I did.
This paid off thanks to Liverpool’s shock loss at home to Forest (while Saka, who would have made way for Salah, scored 7 points), and also thanks to Joao Pedro (who I would have signed alongside Salah) getting injured on international duty.
I’m counting that as half good decision-making and half good luck.
Which is pretty much what FPL is, in a nutshell.
In GW5 I signed and captained Salah instead of keeping Saka and captaining Haaland, undoing much of my good work from the previous week.
Half bad decision-making and half bad luck.
Which is pretty much what FPL is, in a nutshell.
It’s all change at the top of the Godfrey Division this month, with a mega week from Max Taylor sending him miles clear in first. That’s what happens if you captain a player who scores 4 goals, I suppose. More espresso, less depresso.
Last month’s top 3 have dropped to 5th, 8th and 10th, with Alwin Nimmy and newsletter subscriber Charlie Haigh climbing into the top 5.
The Doldrums
At the bottom, no new players have dropped into the bottom 7, which is potentially a harbinger of what’s to come. If you’re stuck at the bottom of the barrel after two months then it’s going to take some effort to escape, or at the very least the use of some transfers.
Actually, I’ve just checked and five of the bottom seven have made a bunch of transfers, so engagement isn’t the problem. It’s foolishness.
Maybe some of them can escape by the end of October.
Good luck for GW7 - I’ve somehow ended up with three Spurs players, so I’m going to need some too.
