Eight years later, Wayne was sanding cars at his father’s shop—and he hasn’t stopped since. Ferraris got into his blood at the age of 10, when, while on vacation in the Catskills, he went for a ride in a 1960 Ferrari 250 SWB and was forever hooked. He has had the honor of subsequently restoring six examples of this model, and today it remains his favorite car. In July 2006, an article about Carini’s pursuit of a rare Hudson Italia appeared in The New York Times. The next day, he was contacted by Jim Astrausky, the owner of Essex TV, a production company looking for automobile-related content for the Discovery Channel. The rest is history, as Wayne’s program Chasing Classic Cars went on to become one of the world’s most popular automotive TV shows, broadcast in over 100 countries. Today, Wayne is involved in multiple aspects of the classic car world. He frequently serves as a judge or Grand Marshal at top automotive events everywhere. All these years later, Martin’s passion and enthusiasm remain as strong as ever. A chance conversation at Britain's National Motor Museum about the possibility of bringing the 1000 HP Sunbeam back to life and returning it to Daytona Beach sparked the next chapter. “I can help you do that,” he said. Born in South Africa, he moved to the UK when his family emigrated, and in 1978 he found himself working part-time in the museum while on a training course at a local technical college. He was offered a role in the workshops in the early 1980s and has worked since on all the vehicles in the museum’s collection. While he describes himself as a Rolls-Royce freak, he has devoted much of his recent career years to the Sunbeam vehicles, completing the 350 HP Sunbeam restoration project in 2014. Around this time, Stan and the workshop team began looking at the 1000 HP Sunbeam. Although it had been on display in the museum since its loan in the 1950s, the 1000 HP Sunbeam was purchased from the Rootes Group by Edward, Lord Montagu, in the 1970s, but its condition was largely unknown. Following completion of the 350 HP Sunbeam restoration, the team decided to remove, clean, and oil the engines of the 1000 HP Sunbeam with a view to preserving them for future generations, and it is from this decision that the current project has grown. After the Sunbeam’s centenary visit to Daytona in 2027, Stan plans a well-deserved retirement!

Forum panelists subject to change.

Attendee expressly assumes all risks incidental to and associated with attendance at the Event.
