I know it's been quite a while since I posted, and there are things I could be posting about, and I will.

For now though, just wanted to let you know that Peter (doubleholmes) is going to be looking at a flat next Tuesday. Most of you know how long he's been trying to find a flat of his own, and how many setbacks and disappointments he's had along the way, so just to say please send some good thoughts his way next Tuesday and keep everything crossed for him ♥

Plus it's his birthday next Monday so it would be simply amazing if this time it actually worked out for him.

Sorry I've not been around - the last three weeks at work I've been putting in crazy hours trying to get everything done, including a new Timetable of Doom, and most of you know how that usually goes.

This year I'm working most of the holidays, though I do have Wednesday to Friday off next week, so that's nice.

Sorry I've not been around - the last two weeks at work I've been putting in crazy hours trying to get everything done, including a new Timetable of Doom, and most of you know how that usually goes.

This year I'm only working one day over the holiday week (instead of all of them as I usually do) so this week am working Thursday then Peter will be over so we can have our own Christmas Day together on Friday. Until then, I foresee much lounging around in pyjamas feeling incredibly tired and doing very little as I'm all out of energy. Lovely.

{ flist cut }

I've done a bit of a flist cut.

There's a lot of people on my flist that I really don't interact with at all - and who don't interact with me at all either - so I think it's for the best.

Some of us are following each other out of nothing more than habit now which isn't a reason to be on anyone's flist; I like my flist manageable enough that I can read all the entries and for it to be interactive, which is why I keep it relatively small, and if we're not interacting and/or are not interested in what each other is saying, then what's the point, yeah?

{ reading and movies and stuff }

1) reading: I've caught up on a lot of fanfic reading lately, particularly in that week and a half that I was off work, to the point where I now have nothing bookmarked in my 'to read' folder. This is not good.

2) paper legends: All seems to be going okay and next week the serious business of writer/artist matching begins with the big check-in and the submission of summaries. So a busy few weeks ahead for me culminating in (I hope!) lots of writers and artist matched with each other, and a day off from work for me (May 21st) to sleep after what will be a hectic weekend of matching (May 19th-20th).

3) timetable of doom: I'm having to do regular ToD's as so many people leaving lately. I'm currently on my third this year already, and I have another to write towards the end of May that'll mean big changes. So basically the first two weeks of May will be dominated by Paper Legends for me, and the last two weeks full of ToD work and me going slowly but surely crazy. Excellent.

4) ankle: Saw my GP this week and she says my ankle is badly sprained (oh really?) and that it may take a few weeks for all the pain/swelling to go away. It's annoying, and some days it hurts more than others, so am just trying to practice patience now.

5) movies: Went with Peter to see Battleship last Saturday and I LOVED IT! It's ridiculous and cheesy and pretty unbelievable, yes. But I went in expecting something highly improbable but great fun, and I wanted to see something highly improbable but great fun, and that's exactly what I got! Fantastically cheesy dialogue, unlikely scenarios, slow-mo sequences to imply heroism = wonderful afternoon at the movies! Here is what doubleholmes had to say about the movie (and where he complains a bit about me too!)

This weekend me, Peter and our brother Matt are going to see Avengers; pretty excited for this, though perhaps not as excited as Peter! Watched Thor for the first time this week, as it was the only one of the Avenger-related movies I'd not yet seen, and that was highly entertaining (in a similar way to Battleship) and I'm very much looking forward to seeing more of Thor and Loki!

(You'll have to excuse my childlike squee over Battleship. I'm trying to make myself post more regularly (because honestly, I miss you guys and I love interacting with you) and I don't want to be burdening you all with crappy RL stuff, so am focusing on the postive and/or silly things instead.)

{ work and holiday and mishaps and stuff }

1) work: Work is still crappy, so nothing new there. One of our service users died 2 weeks ago, and I went to his funeral and burial last week. I was incredibly fond of Chris and it hit me quite hard.

2) holiday: Just had a long holiday from work (Weds 4th-Monday 16th) which is pretty unheard of for me; usually I just take a day or two at a time. The plan was for me and Peter to go to Devon for a few days to visit friends, but that didn't come off, so took the time anyway. Worked out pretty well and got a lot done, and I think the time away has done me some good.

3) cv: Have spent some of my time off writing up a CV for the first time in *coughs* years! Have also signed up now at 5 job sites so I get alerts if anything matches the job I'm looking for. It's going to be hard to find a job, for many reasons I won't bore you with, but at least I'm actively trying now. Fingers crossed.

4) mishap 1: I was peeling back an artex bubble on my lounge ceiling on Tuesday and part of the ceiling came down! Plaster everywhere! Luckily I'm friendly with the handyman guy who works for the freeholder of the building, and he's around this week, so he's going to come in and replaster it this afternoon for me for free. Lovely man =)

5) mishap 2: I fell down the stairs yesterday evening and have fucked up my ankle. Embarrassingly it wasn't even the main stairs (I live on the third floor) but just the three little stairs in my flat, that leads to the bedrooms. Still, I fell pretty awkwardly and it hurt like bugger, and for a while there I honestly thought I was going to pass out, which scared the crap out of me, as I knew that would scare Peter. Anyway, walking is painful, stairs are a bit of a killer (great when I live on the third floor), but driving is the least painful (just tested it). Only did a short drive in the car and although I can drive, it's really painful afterwards. Don't think anything is broken though, just hurts a lot. Peter laughed a lot (and is still laughing) and has taken to calling me stumpy. Great end to my holiday =)

6) medical: Have a lot of (non-serious) medical things going on right now, hence the absence. Trying to keep up with my flist though and hope you're all doing okay.

1) cold: I've had a cold now since last Thursday and am really starting to feel crappy today. Still at work though, and I just know that if it's going to get worse, it'll wait until Wednesday, as I've got A/L booked for Wednesday to start off all the Paper Legends stuff. Oh well, at least I can just sit at my computer in my pyjama's sorting it all out that day.

2) lotr: Had a Lord of the Rings marathon with Peter on Saturday which he's posted about here; made me smile when I read that this morning. For some reason he's flocked it, though. I don't think that was intentional; he's still getting the hang of LJ.

3) chocolate: I bought a few Galaxy bars to post out to you guys the other week. Sadly, I appear to have eaten them all. I'll try and get some more, as I do want to send out a few cards soon. January can be a bit bleak so wanted to do something to brighten your day; if anyone is particularly desperate for a card, just let me know and I'll try to prioritise you. Can't guarantee the inclusion of chocolate though, no matter how I might try hard.

4) boring: Boring entry is boring, but I'm still making the effort to post more regularly.

1) paper legends: I've spent a fair bit of the last week or so working on the paperlegends schedule and other stuff to do with the community, just getting things ready. I think it's pretty much done now and I want to post both the schedule and all the info as soon as possible (probably by the end of the week) but am holding off at the moment purely because I want to be sure it's as right as it can be.

2) camera: Thanks so much to those of you who helped me out on the camera advice post - it was really incredibly helpful. I think I've narrowed it down to this one - what do you think?

Camera help?

This is probably a long shot but is there anyone who can help me choose a digital camera for my brothers birthday?

I want to get Peter a camera for his birthday in February and I figured the best time to be able to afford this was during the holiday sales. However, I know next to nothing about digital cameras, only ever having one myself, and that one was bought for me! (A Canon IXUS 70 which I loved.) Anyhow, knowing nothing, I don't want to spend money on something that's crappy. So if any of you know even a little about cameras and would like to offer some advice, I'd be very grateful.

I've been looking at the PC World website, figuring I'll get it from there. Here's their digital camera link:
