The Hessling Editor (THE) is a powerful text editor modelled on the VM/CMS text editor XEDIT with the best features of Mansfield Software's Kedit. It uses Rexx as its macro language, which means that it is a highly configurable and versatile editor. THE also has user-configurable syntax highlighting.

The Win9x/Me/NT/2k/XP ports of THE can use any of the following Rexx interpreters:
- Regina
- Open Object Rexx
- Quercus Systems Personal Rexx
- Enterprise Rexx

The Unix ports of THE can use either:
- Regina
- REXX/imc
- Open Object Rexx
- The Workstation Group's uni-REXX
