An Update
To show that time has passed
I created this substack with a few goals that I outlined in my first (and only) post almost two years ago. Unfortunately, none of those goals were met. Shortly after I wrote that post, my mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, setting off a series of events that took my family from Kansas City, MO to Jackson, MS. The LORD graciously allowed us to serve my mother in her final days, but the rest of the year was spent adapting to a new home, new jobs, a new church, and a new community. As someone who prefers the old, this was just too much new. Everything had to be put on hold.
Now, though, enough time has passed for me to give a general update and to set out on writing once again. Here’s a few things that have happened over the past couple of years.
I have a book coming out! Truth Not Served By Human Hands (notice the different preposition than pictured below) is set to release in mid-November. This book is an edited version of my dissertation and focuses on the relationship between divine omniscience, aseity, creaturely actions, and truth. Along the way I discuss the transcendentals (goodness, truth, and beauty), the four causes, and the influence of Thomas Aquinas on Protestants. Ultimately, I ground truth in (1) the divine ideas and (2) the creature’s participation in God (cf. Acts 17). If any of this interests you, then please consider picking it up! I’ll provide more updates as we approach the release date.
I started working at a covenant Christian K-12 school in Mississippi. I am the director of spiritual formation for Hartfield Academy, which means that I am in charge of all theological curriculum. Additionally, I teach theology to our sophomores and seniors. God has been very kind to grant me this post, and the school administrators have been very kind to my ideas! I keep asking for things and they keep saying, “yes!” I am genuinely encouraged by the direction of the school and, specifically, our Bible department. Next year, I will begin leading a scholars program that will focus on the Great Books of the Western Canon. I ask that you pray for God’s continued favor over our campus. If you know of anyone who would love to partner with our mission, please let me know.
Our family has grown. My wife and I recently welcomed our third son. We’ve experienced a great deal of death in the last few years. New life feels exceedingly precious.
I hope to write more often. As originally planned, I want to focus on making classical and medieval thought as accessible as I can. If nothing else, this little corner of the internet might (by grace) contribute to the rise and progress of true religion. What more could anyone possible ask?

I can’t wait for the new book to come out!
I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. Also, congrats on publishing your dissertation!
