He's been trying to clear his mind all night, but the universe is conspiring against him. The swirl of his thoughts form incongruous patterns as he raises his glass to his lips, remembering too late that it's empty.

Justin imagines the warm weight of a hand on his shoulder before the actual contact. He thinks about not turning around, but only after he's already done it. Brian's expression gives almost nothing away, but there's something in the set of his jaw that creates a rush in Justin's chest, and the cold air and rough scrape of brick against the fabric of his jacket register before he's even aware that he's left the warmth of the bar and the solid reality of his stool.

Brian's lips on his are warm, insistent and urgent in a way that gives Justin all the opportunity he needs for an arguable defense. The rough silk slide of Brian's hair through his fingers grounds him in the moment as Brian presses against him in full body contact. They're fused from knee to groin to chest to mouth, and Justin parts his lips and feels himself shatter and re-form at the familiar taste and touch and sweep of Brian's tongue.

The murky darkness of night surrounds them like a veil, and Justin uses the metaphor as a blanket of protection against the last shred of reticence that he's only now realizing he doesn't feel. Time shifts and doubles back, and Justin isn't sure when the kiss ended, but he loses the thread of the thought as he feels Brian, now behind him, lean the full warm weight of his body against his back. Justin's hands are flat against the coarse surface of the wall and he barely registers the scrape of silver against brick before his focus shifts to the familiar hardness of Brian's cock against the curve of his ass. The only thing that separates them now is denim.

They're both breathing hard, and Justin catches the ghost of an exhale against the skin of his neck just before the brush of Brian's fingers push his hair aside. Brian's lips are surprisingly gentle on his skin, and Justin stretches into the tug of Brian's hand, now entwined in his hair.

Another shift and Brian is sliding Justin's pants below his hips and running his hands along the newly exposed skin. Justin recognizes the need in Brian's touch, and tries to stay with the moment. But it slips away like water, and suddenly he's arching back against the cool slickness of Brian's fingers. And before he can fully appreciate the pressure and stretch, he feels the blunt hardness of Brian's cock pressing forward with unrelenting force. The fullness overtakes him, and there's nothing left in his world except strong arms, gasping breath, hard cock and burning need. Justin rocks back into the urgency of Brian's thrusts and turns to meet his lips for the kiss that completes their connection.

He moans as Brian shortens his thrusts, barely pulling back before pushing deeper still, hitting every one of the tight, hot, needy places that Justin has almost forgotten. Brian's touching all of him now with skin and breath and lips and cock, and Justin can't remember anything else but this moment, this reality, this present tense of need. Everything else in the world is as lost to him as his own name, until he hears the whisper of the word as Brian breathes it out on an exhale of desire. "Justin."

And suddenly it's all too much when he feels the final push and swell of Brian's cock as his arms tighten and his breath hitches and his hips falter. Justin answers with his own shudder and pulse and final gasp as the intense electric need of release uncoils from the core of him in repeating waves. He feels the brush of Brian's fingers through his hair as he turns his head into a kiss that isn't there.

The harsh sting of heat registers a split second before Justin blows sharply on the flame, extinguishing the match as the sounds and sights and stale warm air of the bar abruptly reform his reality. He blinks against the sudden brightness and fights a losing battle to hang onto a moment that's already receded beyond his ability to recall it with any kind of clarity.

Justin gives a final, absentminded clink of silver against glass before he tosses a few bills on the shining surface of the bar and heads out into the cold, still press of night, alone.

Music plays softly, and the quiet and dark are almost a relief after the flashing lights and thumping beat of Babylon.

“Turn here.” Justin’s voice is sharp and quick, an unexpected interruption. Brian frowns, but catches the seriousness of the request and manages the exit at the last minute. He drives for a while as the headlights illuminate the rain-slick highway, barely cutting into the darkness outside the car.

“Mind telling me where we’re going? Or did you just want me to keep driving until tomorrow?”

Justin’s answer is quiet within the close confines of the car. “I’d just like to see it again. Do you mind?” He’s looking at Brian’s profile as he asks, and catches a glimpse of reaction as his words register.

Brian doesn’t say anything but keeps driving.

They get there eventually, and Justin notices that the outside lights are on. They’re configured to light up the front façade, and show off the regal bearing of the house. They also emphasize its size. He knows they’re on for security reasons, but he can’t shake the feeling that the house is waiting for something.

Brian shuts off the engine but doesn’t move to get out of the car. He’s staring straight ahead, not looking at the house at all. Justin’s the first to get out, and he makes his way to the front door, ducking his head and hurrying against the rain. It takes a minute for Brian to join him, and when he does, he silently unlocks the front door and pushes it open. He gives a barely perceptible indication with his chin, and Justin moves inside.

It’s warmer than outside, but only slightly, and Justin shivers as he wraps his arms around himself and rubs his hands up and down. He turns around as Brian keys in the last digits of the alarm code and flicks on the overhead lights.

Directly across the entryway, Justin sees what he’ll always think of as “the fireplace room.” It’s where Brian proposed, and he hasn’t seen it or the house since that day. He takes a tentative step towards it but then changes his mind and heads down the hall instead.

He enters the first room he comes to. The dining room. It’s spacious and formal. Justin tries to imagine a large gathering of family and friends, but it keeps getting mixed up in his mind and morphing into Debbie’s house.

Brian’s footsteps echo behind him as he enters the room. Justin turns and looks at him, smiling as he says, “Great place for take-out.” Brian snorts at that, but otherwise doesn’t reply.

Justin moves back out to the hall and crosses quickly into the kitchen. He’s fumbling for the switch, but Brian’s behind him, reaching for the panel and bathing the room in light.

“Shit,” says Justin. “I’d forgotten how huge it is.”

“Imagine that. Justin Taylor forgetting about size. What is the world coming to?”

Justin laughs as he takes in the double freezer, six-burner stove and multiple prep areas. There’s enough counter space to land a small plane. “Kinda puts my apartment kitchen to shame.”

“A hot plate and a dorm fridge would put your apartment kitchen to shame.”

Justin rolls his eyes, but has long since given up trying to explain his apartment’s appeal. He moves around the kitchen, running his hands across the surface of the marble countertops and peeking into several of the cabinets, their numbers almost too many to count.

“Lots of space for peanut butter and Oreos,” Brian says as he leans against one of the counters and crosses his arms over his chest. He watches as Justin continues to open cabinet doors.

“Yeah. We could probably store enough food here to feed a small army. It’s a good thing we both cook so much.”

Brian laughs at the sarcasm, but his smile fades as he watches Justin standing in front of the stove.

Eventually they make their way out of the kitchen, moving through rooms whose purposes are less clearly defined. A library perhaps and another one that could be a home office. There’s one with a built-in wet bar and lighting that suggests a pool table and friendly, informal gatherings.

Finally, at the very end of the hall, they enter a room with floor-to-ceiling windows. Justin can’t be sure, but he thinks they face north. Brian finds the light switch easily, and the space is washed in warmth and brightness. Justin feels Brian as he moves up behind him, circling his arms around his shoulders. He leans back and sighs. It takes a minute before he can speak.

“Prefect space for a studio,” he says, trying to imagine an art table, his computer and the mess of paints, brushes and other supplies that make him feel at home.

Brian nuzzles his nose into Justin’s hair and tightens his arms slightly. Another moment passes before Justin speaks again.

“Do you ever come out here?”

He feels Brian take a deep breath, but he doesn’t answer. Justin doesn’t need him to.

They stand there quietly for another few minutes, letting their thoughts wander and feeling the atmosphere of the house; empty, cold and that same sense of waiting that Justin felt when they arrived.

Justin is only slightly surprised when Brian finally speaks. “You’re not coming back.” It’s a statement, not even a hint of a question in his tone.

Justin answers anyway. “No, I’m not.”

Brian pulls away, putting distance between them as he makes his way over to the windows. The rain has stopped, but the darkness persists like a wall just beyond the arc of the outside lighting.

The silence stretches until eventually Justin breaks it. “Brian? Aren’t you going to say anything?”

Brian doesn’t bother to turn around as he speaks, “What’s there to say? You’ve decided. And it’s not like I didn’t already know.”

“Did you? I’ve been gone for over a year. And yet, we’re standing in this house, that you bought for me, that you still own.”

“We.”

“We?”

“We still own.”

Justin doesn’t know what to say to that, so he says nothing. Instead, he moves to stand next to Brian, bodies almost touching. He reaches up and lightly traces the shoulder seam of Brian’s jacket. And waits. It doesn’t take long.

“I’ll sell it.”

Justin runs his hand through Brian’s hair before answering. “OK.”

Then Justin lets the quiet of the house linger around them, and watches Brian as he continues to look out the window, eyes unfocused and expression blank.

“I thought it was what you wanted.” Brian’s voice is so low that Justin might have missed it if he wasn’t standing as close as he is.

His answer is hushed, in keeping with Brian’s tone. “I know. And it was, in a way.”

Brian is suddenly looking at him, eyes hard and intense. “And now? What is it that you want now, Justin?” There’s anger below the surface of his words, and Justin is almost surprised. Almost. He pulls back and stares up at Brian fixedly.

“You,” he says clearly. “Us, together, in New York.”

Brian stares down at Justin for a moment before responding. “And what about what I want? Don’t I have a say in this?”

Justin answers, a smile mixing with the seriousness of his words. “Tell me it’s not what you want, too.”

Brian looks away, resuming his silent appraisal of the darkened yard. Finally, he turns back to Justin, rests their foreheads together and takes a deep breath. “So, I’m selling the house and moving to New York. Did you happen to have a timeframe in mind? I kind of have a business or two to run and that information could be helpful.”

Justin smiles as he looks up at Brian. “Whenever you’re ready.”

Brian huffs out an almost laugh. “Well, since you seem to have everything else figured out, I suppose you’ll know when that is as well?”

“I don’t have it calculated down to the exact time of your flight, but,” Justin pauses as he lets his fingers play through the hair at the back of Brian’s neck. “There’s nothing holding you back now.” And then he leans in and lets their lips touch.

Much later, when they’re back at the loft, in bed and warm, they move against each other, face-to-face and in their own rhythm. They’re done talking, but their conversation continues in silence, both of them finally understanding what it means to come home.

10 Happy Things Meme

callie89 tagged me for the 10 Happy Things meme, so how could I refuse! It’s under a cut, so enter at your own risk…

1. My kids.

I have two boys ages 6 and 10. They bicker with each other constantly, make huge messes around the house and push my buttons as frequently as is humanly possible. They are also incredibly smart, funny, talented and beautiful, and I love them to death.

2. Being warm.

Does that seem like a silly thing to put on a list? Maybe, but I spend so much of my time shivering and cold in air conditioning or drafty places that when I’m truly warm I’m overcome with such a sense of happiness and contentment.

3. Free time.

This is such a rarity for me that when it happens, I often don’t even recognize it. I’m not talking about making time to play or the 10 minutes you get just before bed when you can finally sit down and relax. I’m talking about the true freedom that comes with knowing that you have absolutely nothing to do; no laundry, no house-cleaning, no large work projects, no one waiting for a meal or for attention. It’s those times when you can honestly say that there’s nothing you need to be doing in that moment. Ah, so wonderful.

4. McDonald’s coffee.

Forget Starbucks or any of those fancy brands. The best just plain old coffee in the world comes from McDonald’s.

5. My husband.

Because it would be cruel to have a 10 happy things list and not put him on it. And because he went and got me coffee from McDonald’s this morning.

6. My cats.

I’m not a cat person. I grew up with dogs and even though I haven’t shared a home with one in years, I’ve always seen myself as a dog person. But too many years ago to count, I was adopted by a small gray kitty that I named Kisa. She was truly my best friend at a time when I really needed one. She saw me through so many changes in my life and unquestioningly went along with me on my journey. Sadly, she passed away at too young of an age, and it completely gutted me. Truly the only thing that saved me from total despair was opening my home to Jolie and Buster. We adopted them at the same time; Buster was a kitten and Jolie was 2 years old. Caring for them put me back together and helped me move on. Poor Jolie died a few years ago, but ornery, high-strung Buster is still with us today.

7. My time in fandom.

What to say about this that won’t go on for 223432443 pages? The friends, teh love, the experiences, the personal growth – it’s all there and then some.

8. Pumpkins.

For some reason, pumpkins make me deliriously happy.

9. Snow.

As long as I’m warm (see above comment), I love watching the snow fall outside my window. I love how it covers and blankets everything and how it both mutes and heightens the sounds outside. Oddly enough, I also like driving in it. Yes, it’s true. When the roads are covered and the plows haven’t made it through yet and you have to go like 15 mph just so you don’t slide off into a ditch. Yup, that’s me, terrified and gleeful at the same time. So strange.

10. Brian and Justin.

I really don’t have to explain that one, do I?

And that’s 10 things that make me happy. I think I’m supposed to tag people, but I’ve never been very good at that so I’ll just say that, if you’re reading this and want to do the meme, consider yourself tagged!

~Ellen

Brian, if you’re there, pick up.” There was a pause as Cynthia waited for Brian to pick up the call. When she got no response, she continued.

“Brian, the art department’s totally screwed up the boards for the Hilliard presentation this morning. And on top of that, they’ve managed to misplace their notes on what you wanted in the first place. We need you here to go over the layout before the meeting or we’ve got nothing for the pitch.” Cynthia waited again, but when she still got no response, she sighed and hung up.

Justin groaned as Brian fisted his hand in his hair and stopped him from descending on his cock again. Justin pulled off, lips swollen and red. “Let me finish, Brian. You were so close.” He shook his head in an attempt to dislodge Brian’s grip and moved back to Brian’s cock; hard, dripping and slick with Justin’s spit.

“Forget it,” hissed Brian as he stopped Justin again. “There isn’t time. The meeting’s in less than four hours, and if I don’t go straighten this the fuck out, Kinnetik’s going to lose its shot at our biggest prospect yet.”

Justin’s shoulders slumped. Brian let go of his hair, and Justin flopped back on the bed, almost as exasperated as Brian. Almost.

*****

“And that, gentlemen, is how Kinnetik will garner you the largest share of the market. I can promise you that you won’t be disappointed.” He paused momentarily, looked around the room at each of the meeting attendants in turn, and then finished. “Your satisfaction is… always guaranteed.” And with that, Brian had finished his pitch.

The meeting moved on to the question and answer portion, and after only a few initial questions, Brian knew that he’d bagged another one. The rest was just bullshit and formalities. The meeting wrapped, and following the obligatory hand shaking and promises to be in touch soon, Brian ushered the Hilliard reps from the conference room. After they were gone, Cynthia looked at him, but was uncharacteristically quiet.

“Well?” Brian said, as she remained silent.

“Brilliant as always, Brian. But, you seemed a little…tense. Not that they noticed, of course. Still…”

“Still,” interrupted Brian. “The account’s ours. All we need now is for them to sign contracts, and we can get started on the campaign. Send Ted in so we can go over the paperwork.”

Cynthia ignored the obvious change of subject and went to find Ted.

Brian stood with his back to the door as he contemplated the boards that remained in place from the meeting. He heard movement behind him and turned to start the meeting with Ted. But there was no Ted. Instead, there was Justin. He moved towards Brian, lips slightly parted as his tongue peaked out. Justin’s eyes traveled the length of Brian’s body, taking in his refined appearance in the dark charcoal suit that looked like it was made specifically for him. Justin knew it had been.

“So,” Brian started slowly. “What brings you down to the big, bad den of advertising?”

Justin had moved closer and stopped just inches from Brian. He looked up at Brian’s face through his lashes, and then reached out a hand to cup Brian through his superbly tailored pants.

“I thought you might be ready to finish what was so rudely interrupted this morning. That is, if you’re done winning your largest account to date.”

“Ah, you heard.”

“Nope. But, there was really no doubt, was there?”

Brian’s smile was his only response.

Justin brushed his lips against the smile, and whispered, “Congratulations.”

Brian wrapped an arm around Justin’s waist, pulled him in close and kissed him, mouth open and soft. He ran his tongue over Justin’s lips, wetting them and waiting for Justin to open for him. He did, and their tongues slid together as the kiss grew harder and more insistent.

Brian’s hand was twisted in Justin’s hair, and he used the leverage to control the kiss, taking what he wanted. Justin took back without hesitation, grinding his erection against Brian’s.

“Want me to do something about that?” asked Justin as he pulled back enough to run his hand down Brian’s hard length.

Brian laughed softly, but it turned into a grunt as Justin gave his balls a little squeeze. “Ted’s due in here any minute to go over the contracts. I’d hate to have to fire him for seeing my dick in your mouth.”

It was Justin’s turn to laugh, but he continued to stroke Brian through his pants. “Like Ted hasn’t caught us before. You’d think by now he’d learn not to enter without knocking. Unless… You don’t think he does it on purpose, do you?”

Brian shuddered, but whether it was from Justin’s words or the action of his hand, it was hard to say. Justin didn’t wait for a response and instead made quick work of unfastening Brian’s pants.

“This time, I’m not stopping for anything,” said Justin as he dropped to his knees in front of Brian. Once he was face to crotch with what he wanted, he reached both hands inside Brian’s now-open pants, finding no underwear to get in his way. He used one hand to cup Brian’s balls and the other to pull out his hard cock. A drop of precome was already forming at the tip, and Justin used the end of his tongue to bring it to his lips. He closed his eyes as he savored the unique taste of Brian.

He heard a low moan and smiled to himself before opening his mouth and letting his soft lips rest on the head of Brian’s cock. He didn’t suck at first, just barely pressed his lips to the surface and then poked his tongue out again and gently prodded at the slit. Brian’s moan was louder this time.

Justin’s desire for more took over, and he began sucking, still just on the head as his tongue continued to swirl and stroke. He felt Brian struggle to keep himself from thrusting forward. That was enough of a signal for Justin to open wider and slide more of Brian’s length into his mouth. Just a couple of inches as he increased the pressure of his lips and allowed his spit to liberally coat the part of Brian that he held within his mouth. He pulled back slightly, appreciating the way that Brian’s smooth, wet skin slid so easily between his lips.

Both of Brian’s hands were in his hair now, and Justin felt the slight pressure as Brian tried to pull him onto his cock so that he could bury himself completely down Justin’s throat. Justin was agreeable, and without further teasing, he moved forward until Brian’s wiry curls brushed against his face, and Brian’s dick throbbed in his mouth and throat. Brian let out a loud gasping moan that he repeated when Justin swallowed around him.

Justin tightened his lips at the base and then slowly pulled back, leaving Brian’s cock wet and glistening. He pressed his tongue in hard on the underside, and when he reached the tip again, he made sure to push into the sensitive area just below the ridge. Brian was breathing heavily. Justin glanced up to see his eyes closed, head thrown back and mouth open. He was beautiful when he was like this. Predatory and vulnerable. Eager and aloof.

Justin returned his attention to Brian’s cock. Now that it was spit-slicked and primed, he was able to easily slide up and down, and he wasted no time in setting a fast rhythm, moving his tongue in random patterns on the way down, and increasing the suction on the way up. Brian’s hips were thrusting slightly as Justin moved, and the sounds he was making in the back of his throat were pure sex.

Justin’s left hand still cupped Brian’s balls, and as he continued the movements of his mouth, he straightened his middle finger and pressed firmly against the tight skin just behind Brian’s sack. Brian gasped.

Justin continued to rub that spot as he pulled off Brian’s cock completely. Brian stifled a groan and tried to pull Justin’s mouth back, but he shook his head and waited for Brian to open his eyes and look down at him. It didn’t take long.

Once he had Brian’s full attention, Justin inserted the middle finger of his right hand into his mouth, closing his lips around it and making it good and wet. He continued to stare up at Brian, a purposeful look on his face. His lips around his finger showed the hint of a teasing smile as he raised an eyebrow and held Brian’s gaze.

Withdrawing his finger, Justin allowed Brian to pull his mouth back to his earlier task as he again swallowed Brian whole and reestablished his rhythm. At the same time, he snaked his right hand, complete with one now very wet finger, behind Brian and down into his pants. He wasted no time in sliding his hand along the smooth curve of Brian’s ass and down his crack until he reached the tight opening.

Brian was momentarily distracted by that thing Justin was doing with his tongue, coupled with the glowing pleasure he felt where Justin pressed and rubbed against the space behind his balls. When he felt Justin’s finger push inside him, he tensed, but only for second. Justin moaned, and the resulting vibrations on his cock had him fighting for control. Justin pushed his finger in steadily, not letting up, as he felt the incredible tightness, first resisting and then relaxing to let him in. He moaned again, and Brian gasped.

Justin’s finger was now buried as far up Brian’s ass as it was going to go. His other hand remained on Brian’s balls, cupping them while his middle finger continued to press up from the outside. The unrelenting rhythm of his mouth continued.

Justin’s own cock was hard and leaking inside his jeans as he reveled in the sounds that Brian made, in the pleasure that he knew Brian was feeling, that he was giving him. Many times at this point, he would have opened his own pants to stroke himself as Brian came. But now he needed both hands for what he had planned, so his own pleasure would have to wait.

Ready to taste more of Brian than the copious amounts of precome that had been coating his tongue, Justin began moving the finger that he had buried in Brian’s ass. He pressed down and rubbed against Brian’s prostate, while the finger behind Brian’s balls rubbed at the same spot externally. It was more than Brian could take, and still having a firm grip on Justin’s hair, he began fucking Justin’s mouth. Justin moaned again, loving how Brian was using him in such an unrestrained manner, completely unable to hold back any longer and wanting, needing to get off. It made Justin feel powerful, and he sucked harder in response. Almost immediately, he felt Brian’s cock swell in his mouth, while his ball sack drew up in Justin’s hand. With one final thrust deep into Justin’s mouth, Brian began emptying himself as warm come flooded over Justin’s tongue and down his throat. Justin continued to suck until Brian’s hips slowed and his hands relaxed in Justin’s hair.

Finally, when Brian was spent, Justin let his cock slowly slip from his red and swollen lips as he nuzzled his face into the warm, moist skin. He breathed in deeply, always loving Brian’s scent just after he came.

Brian shifted, and Justin withdrew his finger from Brian’s ass. The small hiss from Brian let Justin know that he was still sensitive after his orgasm. Justin carefully tucked Brian back into his pants, fastening them before he stood up and rested his face against Brian’s chest. Brian’s arms automatically encircled him. They stayed that way for a minute, while Brian ran a hand through Justin’s hair, smoothing it back down from the mess he’d created with his earlier grip.

Ted chose that moment to knock and then enter without waiting for a response. “Bri, I’ve got the contracts started and we can go over… Justin. Cynthia told me you had stopped by, but I didn’t realize you were still here.”

Justin laughed quietly into Brian’s chest before turning his head to smile at Ted. “Apparently I’ll be leaving in a minute,” he said as he felt Brian’s arms tighten around him.

“I’ll just wait outside then, shall I?” said Ted, not wanting to receive the glare from Brian that he knew was coming. He exited quickly and made sure to draw the door closed behind him.

When they were alone again, Brian ran his open palm down the bulge in Justin’s pants, just resting it there and letting the heat from his skin seep through Justin’s jeans to his cock. Justin groaned.

Brian leaned close and spoke quietly into Justin’s ear. “You’re going to have to save that for later. Do you think you can do that?”

Justin took a deep breath and squeezed his eyes shut as Brian increased the pressure of his palm. “Yeah. Later,” he said quietly. “But I expect extra attention for being patient.”

“Mmmm. I’m sure that can be arranged.” Brian gave a final caress and then released Justin, who took a step back and looked up. Brian’s face held an expression of complete satisfaction coupled with predatory intent. Justin smiled and made his way to the door.
