Great Pyrenees Puppies available

My sister has a litter of Great Pyrenees puppies out at her Ranch a little east of Taylor(TX).

Their parents are currently herding/guarding my sisters goats, and while one of them is promised, the other seven are still available.

These are not really an indoor, or even small backyard dog, they need a fair bit of space.

A disturbing dream

I had something of an odd dream last night that I found somewhat disturbing...

I was in a group of people and at first we were either looking for something odd in the area or we were investigating it for some reason.

When we found the place off the oddness we then found ourselves in an alternate dimension that was similar but more of a third world version of the same area.

we started looking for the oddity/disturbance again and while I was off looking for it myself, I found something else in a place near to where the 'portal' had been in the normal world.

It seemed both enervating and restful, I went down to my knees, crossed my arms and placed my hands on my shoulders without noticing it and rested my forehead on the ground.

I was sitting there like that for a short while thinking only of how restful it was when Lucas came up, followed by Timmy (my nephews). They may have asked what I was doing, and I stood up to guide them back to everyone else.

I saw a strange light coming through a window in the back of a house when I walked past the open door. I went in and looked through the blinds to see that there was a glowing purple square (a visible portal) blinking open and closed every few moments (probably not more than a foot on a side when open).

When I got back to the group I told Skye (skye_ds) that I had found the portal and she mentioned that there was a place near by where Death had waited. I pointed out that I had found that place too and that I had kneeled down there and that I could show it to them.
An old lady (from this alternate realm who was apparently advising Skye) exclaimed in surprise that I had 'gotten up from Bula's spot'. After I recounted how I had kneeled then stood up from that location Skye said it was probably a bad idea to go there. A few moments later we were joining hands and Skye said we should start by calling Callalabus. After a few tines calling out his name, I looked around and noticed he was already in the circle (which was still forming), and roughly the time that the last people joined hands in the circle I woke up.

The part I found most disturbing was that I might submit so readily and willingly to oblivion and death, Just because I was curious about what was going on...

Have you ever taken a look around you and realized that you are in a holding pattern, but you are not holding for anything?

Spend years working towards one goal or another and then realize one day that you have run out of goals?

The only goals I have left are ones I do not know how to pursue, or ones that are part of a long-term plan.

I have a job that, were I to 'win the lottery' tomorrow, I would still come in to work every day.

I have a decent house, a few good friends, good health and a youthful appearance for my age (often being mistaken for mid to late twenties, when I am a couple years past thirty). My fitness is good, the only times I feel drained after a three mile jog is if it is particularly warm/humid or if I am wearing a 20+lb weight.

I do a lot of volunteer work (Monthly highway cleanups with the KOC. I volunteer at the Humane society, including fostering kittens in my home[I currently have two, one of which I am hand feeding a couple times a day]. This past weekend I spent twelve hours helping out at Eeyore's Birthday party, I do the Haunted Hay-ride in autumn a number of other things as they come up).

Financially speaking I'm putting a fair bit away for retirement (10% of my check plus annual Roth IRA contributions), I'm putting hundreds a month into accelerated pay-off of my mortgage(At this rate the 30 year mtg should be gone in a dozen years or less, possibly less than ten).

While I am considering getting a miniature horse and a small sailboat(something I can sail by myself but also bring a passenger along if I choose), the horse is on hold until the HOA meeting at least, and the boat is on the back burner because my brother may need somewhere to keep his stuff for a little while while moving down here to Austin (Mom made the suggestion that I have lots of space that he could use until he gets a new house).

The only other objective I have right now is finding a SO. Something which I have no ideas about how to pursue. Sure I could go look on CraigsList or eHarmony and find a girlfriend, but in six or twelve months I'll just be back where I started.

There is clearly something missing, but I'm not sure what it is or how to go about fixing it.

Not to say that I am unhappy, but there is a growing sense of dissatisfaction.

Sort of like realizing that not only are you in a rut, but you are going in circles and the scenery is getting tedious.

Camping at TRF

I had heard good things about the camping at TRF, so I thought I would give it a try.
I'm glad I did.

First of all, I had always left a little early to avoid the 1-2 hour line to get out after the fair closes, and thus I never before saw the very impressive fireworks display.

Because the audience is more or less restricted to the jousting auditorium, they can have it much lower in the sky and have the same results as larger shows, this also means that each individual firework can be smaller and still have the same visual effects. I would consider it to be easily better than any municipal fireworks display I have seen in Austin, starting with the faeries running around with sparklers and spark shooting torches at the beginning up to the final finally(there were 3-4 times I thought they had done the finally, but then, after a brief pause, they just shot off some more)

While there is not much shopping after hours(as opposed to almost every booth being a shop inside TRF), and the 'shows' are neither scheduled in advance, nor are they restricted to specific venues as they are in the fair proper, they are much more varied and participatory.

Most of the more conventional fair goers leave at the end of the day, leaving a more concentrated fair-like atmosphere

Some of the more conventional show-like activities I witnessed include:
fire-breathing,
Poi and other types of fire-dancing,
Drum circle and associated dancing around the fire,
A camp-site set up sort of like a rave (UV lights, at least one strobe, live DJ, plenty of glow-stick dancing )
a make-shift movie theater(computer, LCD projector, white backdrop for the display)

Less conventional shows:
At the 'safe haven' campsite (peopled mostly by off-duty police, ems, military, TRF actors, booth workers, etc; but everyone is welcome so long as you don't act 'stupid'), identified by the pair of strobe lights on on tall poles to make it easy to find, you can hear stories about stupid fair-goers, unusual events at the fair, things that happened previous years and so on. You also get to see or hear about much of the aftermath of drunk or stupid campers (it is, after all, the primary place on-site to get medical attention until an ambulance can arrive[if needed]).

There was a fire inside the fenced-off fair grounds. At first we were told that a chainmaile shop was on fire, and two motor-cycles zoomed off, each with two people and a fire-extinguisher. They were turned back at the gate by the local Fire department and we watched as an orange light started illuminating the bottom of a black cloud, speculating that it was probably not just one shop with that much light and smoke. After the fire and smoke went away, we discovered that it was just an RV belonging to someone who worked at the faire, started by an electrical system which had just been worked on the week before (everyone was ok).

There was a display campsite with halogen UV lights some large aluminum tripods made up like tents(20+ feet tall, including at least one 'sky chair'), and one of them had a hot-air balloon blower hooked up to a propane tank which they would occasionally use to shoot fireballs into the sky (I suspect they also may have been the ones to release a small number of Japanese lanterns [paper balloons with lift provided by a candle])

Later I put on my cloak and wandered around (I was still wearing a white shirt and no mask or gloves), I startled a number of people without even trying to, then startled a few more intentionally.

I also gave out a fair number of back-rubs, including one to a massage therapist who commented that I was 'pretty good', especially for someone with out any formal training.

I finally got to bed at around 4:30 Sunday morning, and was woken by the lightening sky at around 6:30 (this would be the reason I have thick curtains in my bedroom, I am a light sleeper, and I like it that way)

All in all I got about 16 hours of fair enjoyment for about 1.5 times the ticket price(camping is $10 for the weekend, and I did not arrive until about 12:30 Saturday afternoon. the three hours after I awoke before I left was a more or less standard morning camp-fire ambiance, excepting perhaps the lady wearing the maile bikini who came around for breakfast)

a few notes:
the trailer with the strobes marking the 'save haven' campsite is a kitchen and the owner cooked up both a dinner and a breakfast, I believe it was mostly a community contribution type thing, and since the food I brought was more or less single person portions, I just ate my own food.

I can specifically remember being offered alcohol at least 3 or 4 times, and there was a significant amount of it present.

There is a separate 'family camping' area further away from the main entrance with noise restrictions and the like, but I was mostly interested in the more wildlife side of the camping(it's fun to watch, just don't get too close to anything that might get aggressive)

All in all, I would highly recommend it. If you go to TRF without camping, you miss half the fun.

Not entirely applicable combat experience

Do you ever wonder what sort of damage you would receive if you were attacked by someone wielding a knife when you did not have any sort of 'real' weapon on hand?

Aside form the fact that I usually have something reasonably applicable for discarding an opponents weapon (a soft-sided brief-case or full-sized umbrella with a walking spike for example), I suspect that if I were truly unarmed and attacked with a knife that I would probably end up taking some damage to my hand(s)...

HFS combat is just not as applicable to protecting one's hands in real combat...

While I am quite confident that I could disarm and probably disable almost anyone I meet on any given day, it would be unfortunate if I got any serious cuts on one of my hands while doing so...
(damage anywhere else seems unlikely unless they start in a position where they have a knife against some portion of my anatomy to start with, but even jogging at night with the jingle of maile in my ears no one gets that close without my having some awareness of them...

Perhaps I should get back into martial arts... I would hate to have reduced manual dexterity just because someone tried to rob/mug/kill me...

Then again, I suspect that being 6'6" and in generally good shape may offer some protection from anyone with any sort of sense, and anyone else seems unlikely to know anything about the proper use of a knife...

Or perhaps I should cut down on the wishful thinking while jogging on dark trails wearing my maile... For some reason it tends to get me thinking about my combat-readiness in other day-to-day activities...

It seems terribly counter-productive for someone to behave like a hormonal teenager around the person that they like. That said, why is it that it happens so much? I had certain plans and expectations for a reccent visit, but for some reason, whenever I get around this person I act like a teenager.

I can be playful, silly, or any of a number of other things, and I often am, but when she is around that just does not work. Apparently it is pretty obvious, as I have been adminished by friends who would like me to hook up with her to act normally, and stop being a pain in the backside around her, but it is not intentional and I am not even aware of it ulntil I look back and think 'What was I doing, and WHY!?'

I realize that the 'hormonal teenager' behaviours are basically mating ritual type activities, but that does not mean I need to be happy about my hormones trying to sieze control of my behavior.

Perhaps things will be better in the future... I think I need to make an effort to analyze this effect and see if I can determine a way to ignore or counteract it...

Then again, if I could do that in a marketable way, I could become very rich very quickly.
