SOUndTRACK OF INDEPENDENCE

a musical celebration marking the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence

Curated concert experiences, a participatory school band project, & community events that bring together performers, art-lovers, citizens, & scholars in a public celebration of the music of the Founding Era.

Tempesta di Mare: Philadelphia's Baroque Orchestra

We named our ensemble after a concerto by Antonio Vivaldi that translates to “storm at sea”. The name is our inspiration to convey the inherent emotional drama of baroque music in performances that are powerful, profound, vivid, beautiful, and joyous.

Rediscovered Masterworks

We specialize in music that hasn't been performed in 300 years—uncovering lost compositions and creating new performance editions that we share with ensembles worldwide. Every concert offers the thrill of discovery.

Historically Informed Performance

Our musicians perform self-led—as was the practice when the music was new—creating dynamic, wordless dialogues in sound with emotive qualities that speak directly to modern audiences.

Research & Scholarship

From reconstructing works by women composers at Venetian orphanages to exploring Philadelphia's musical connections to the founding of America, our performances are grounded in rigorous research that reveals hidden stories.
