I've been following this project since 2018, and I'm extremely eager to play the single first chapter even after so many years. However, I found it of extremely bad taste to use the official KillCure twitter account to "call out" on a different fangan project, Eden's Garden. As an outside viewer, and a consumer, that seemed like a low blow to try and take down an "adversary" that had aquired more recognition.

I am not in any way trying to defend the awful people who got exposed from the Eden's Garden team, nor am I trying to advocate for Eden's Garden itself. To me, based on the leaks, the project coming to a halt was for the best. And to me, the post itself with the PDF was important to have been brought to light.

But using specifically the official account of your own fangan to further lower the reputation of another fangan, as a long-term viewer of KillCure and it's development, seemed petty, intentional, and malicious. After almost ten years watching the project, I now sadly no longer hold it at such high regards.

I'm sorry this just feels like you are completely disregarding what actually happened. Would you have preferred they made a random burner account instead? What, so those accountable could just not address it or say they're lying? The whole reason we even found out about it was because some of the kcbv team crossed over with pjeg, and I think it was... Pretty important! PJEG's rep was ruined as soon as Faza was exposed, why are you blaming kcbv for it?

Hi Maokou,

I'm the director of KC and wanted to take some time to respond to your comment and points here. I understand that whenever a project calls out another it can leave a bad impression to those unrelated to the situation. However I want to use this as an opportunity to explain why we acted as we did. With we, I am speaking for myself, Rebus, Imleeham and Livewire and no one else in the KC team. (As nobody else was involved in the creation of that document)

1- Why did we call out Eden's Garden?

I want to emphasize that what happened wasn't us calling out another project, but a crime. We would have committed a crime ourselves in hiding evidence of a person protecting a groomer. As a director I could not let that happen, especially because I believe information like this is always bound to come out at some point. The moment we found out about the evidence it was our responsibility that it was shared and not swept under the rug. If we had not shared it, someone else would have. Wether that be a week or years later, since one of KC's staff was aware of the information we would have rightfully been held accountable should we have stayed quiet about it in the future.

2- Did we want to take down an adversary?

Wether you believe it or not, we approved of P:EG's standing in the fangan sphere. With P:EG's popularity and work on DREditor (The engine both KC and P:EG use) both KC and other projects benefited actively from its development. We had more tools on our hands to bring KC further itself. It also fostered an active community that was interested in supporting other projects in the sphere. Since KC had blown up in the past we were also aware of the negative consequences massive popularity could bring to a dev team and were relieved that less eyes were on us. So we did not see P:EG as an adversary, but a different project from a sphere we were part of that brought the fandom along.

3- Why did we specifically use the official acount?

Out of everyone involved (Me, Rebus, Imleeham, Livewire), nobody of us had a big reach on any of our social media. I want to emphasize that what happened was a crime and we could not take the risk of it being overseen/ seen less because of a reach issue.
This point is also answered once more on page 1 in the doc itself:
"This statement will be posted on the Kill/Cure Twitter page and Discord server." [...] "There are a handful of Kill/Cure staff members who also work on Project: Eden's Garden, and hiding this evidence from them would undermine whatever accountability measures they are engaging in. We agreed that, due to the nature of the evidence, it would be irresponsible to post it on an anonymous account on Twitter. We genuinely try not to involve ourselves with other projects in a negative manner unless we feel we have no choice, and we believe we would be sheltering a perpetrator if we stayed silent."

As well as page 36:
"A lot of people might question the fact that we chose to post this document on a highly visible channel, rather than just sharing it with the PJEG staff team. But the truth is, I'm afraid that simply sending this document to the PJEG staff team, and nowhere else, will make it easier for the perpetrators to find ways to discount the evidence in this document. And unlike Sozzay, Tako has admin control over the Discord and YouTube. I'm sorry if posting this document publicly is chaotic, but we already have evidence that people are willing to lie about their involvement in the Faza grooming allegations. I will not entrust accountability to an opaque process."

4- Did we want to lower P:EG's reputation?

No we did not want to lower P:EG's reputation. We wanted the people who committed a crime to be held accountable. Like I explained in the 2nd point, we actively benefited from P:EG's existence and popularity.

5- Are we aware that this action will lead to our long-term supporters stop holding us in a high regard?

As a director I am aware that releasing a document as serious as this can be seen as petty, intentional and malicious. However I am willing to take this consequence, as staying quiet would have been a crime and lead to the end of KC as well. Personally it was simply also the right thing to do.

I've also decided to add some additional answers as I feel they might be relevant to the situation, even if not asked.

6- Why did we not create a new account for it to be shared on anonymously?

We wanted this issue to be taken seriously and using a burner account/ not putting our names behind it would have led to more people underestimating the severity of the situation or simply would have not taken it seriously.

7- Did we use this situation to advertise KC?

I am aware that when sharing a document as serious as this on a project account it can seem as if we use that publicity to our advantage. I understand that this opinion also comes from a place of hurt, but I can assure anyone this was not the case as we made sure to only mention KC in the document by mentioning our intentions of releasing it on the public accounts. If we wanted a bigger reach and to misuse our platform we would have had our Discord server open for discussion to all new members and not locked it down during the publication of this document, as we knew a lot of people would try and join to discuss matters/ turn to KC due to the severity of the situation.

8- Did we want Peg to end?

No we did not want the project to end. We were aware that releasing this evidence would have a big effect on the team. We believed it was both possible to end but also to continue, but it would be the responsibility of the Peg staff to decide how.

9- Why did we not share the evidence with the Peg team?

I want you to be aware that the evidence we found involved the director Tako, the person that was in charge over the entire project. While KC shares some staff with Peg, ultimately we are 2 completely different teams. Unfortunately there was a risk of this evidence being brought to Tako's attention and then either undermined or destroyed before it could reach any other staff members/ the public and we could not take that risk.

Thank you for your attention! You are free to think whatever you please, but I ask you not to conspire and respect these responses as our true intentions.

discovered now that there isn t a 1 chapter... i love how they made them, and its like edens garden, but seeing it unfinished isn t amazing... hope they finish it!

Excited to check this out on my channel soon!

Finished it last night. Amazing prologue. Set of a lot of mysteries and details and got me really interested in seeing how everything plays out. Looking forward to the rest of the game.

this is so cool!! ahh i love it sm!!! ><

this was absolutely beautiful. i loved every minute of it. the art was great, the music was stellar and the characters, oh dear god they were all so magnificent! One thing ill say is that i kinda wish we couldve seen

(SPOILERS!)

a sort of mock trial that the characters could have solved to give both them and us a more practical look into the workings of the game and a better understanding of its unique rule set. Though, it is chapter 0/ a prologue, so i can more than understand why that didn't end up being the case (hell, it's a blessing we got as much content as we did from the get go!)

speaking of the rule set, i just love this fresh new twist on the killing game formula! some people might say its "just a lil gimmick" but i really do think it could end being one of the best systems introduced by a fanganronpa in a while!

like think about it: the absolute dread that would be left in the cast after they vote and realize that they only got the co-conspirator, allowing the blackened to get off scot free. How much something like that could change relationships, motives and the characters themselves going forward? its a really interesting concept that i cant wait to see get developed on going forward!

(END OF SPOILERS)

In the end, this was nothing short of an amazing prologue that gives us a short taste of something even more insane to come. if you like fanganronpa's or just visual novels period, please give this project your time and support in any way you can, YOU WONT REGRET IT!

Until next time TeamKillCure, keep safe and keep on cooking! (:

I'm curious to see how much this will follow the rules set by the official Danganronpa games. There are a few things I can guess based solely on the archetypes the characters seem to fill, but I also suspect some things to be subverted. Maybe the muscular character will survive ch4 this time! Who knows? Either way, I'm very excited to see where this goes!

(+3)

i love how in the beginning scene the bulletin board has a poster of alice in borderland

(+4)

I really liked this game! The art style is probably the closest to the original of all fanganronpas - both 2D and 3D.

There are also unusual interesting rules (especially rule 34... days of confinement. XD), so it's hard to even guess what awaits us in the future.

I liked this game in many ways, but the only downside that seemed strange is that there is no atmosphere of confinement. Many scenes of the prologue showed characters and backstories. But I don't have the feeling that a killing game is about to begin!
It's as if we are just walking around and getting to know other students, as if we were at a school camp. I got the impression that few of the characters are even worried that they were kidnapped. A lot of time is spent just talking, that is, we stand in one place and listen for a few minutes as... the characters just chat and joke? It seemed too drawn out, and I want the characters to start figuring out what's going on, not this.

I believe that the atmosphere of the game will be in the next chapters, as the project looks great!

我需要中文!!

(+1)

Does this need to have a 1080 to play it

(+1)

I mean, I'm sure you don't need that specific GPU lol.  It's a free download, tho, so go ahead and try it and see if it runs smooth for you.

Gotta say, this is one of the most "different yet same" DR inspired games I've played yet. Loads of potential, some pretty solid character intros, and a sense of danger I haven't really felt from a lot of other fan projects. A lot of KGs seem to play around with "Going to make you kill each other", but this game's really manage to make this feel like a life-or-death survival situation at the end.

One thought though, maybe pull back a bit on the teleporting from scene to scene? I get some of the events going in a specific order, but it would be nice walking between scenes to break up the text a bit. Maybe just have Maru decide she wants to go in seasonal order and say not to go in the other ones if the order's wrong. XD

Hyped for the first chapter!

Glad you enjoyed the game Narrator!

There will sadly not be anymore walking, it will probably be even more linear CH1 and onwards.

Like we mentioned previously we are limiting interactivity for the sake of testing & writing being easier and less bugs having the possibility of showing up.

If our goal wasn't to create 6 chapters + this prologue we would be open to create more interactivity, but since we are simply a volunteer team we have to set certain boundaries to make all of this possible.

Hi, I wanted to leave a little critique on this prologue. I know some fans may see this as an unjust attack, but I hope that if the dev team reads this, they understand that I'm coming from a sincere place as a fellow writer and creative, even though this is going to sound harsh. Although I commend the fact that this project was able to see the light of day despite everything that happened, and I appreciate the obvious effort put into this game. However, everything else about this fell short for me:

  • The writing, specifically the dialogue, is generally not very pleasant. Nearly every character has at least one voiceline that's using a common meme phrase said online, even the more relatively "normal" characters do this. It just ages your game so much. Relying on references as a stand-in for comedy is just not good writing. Speaking of comedy, when characters swear every other line it just loses its impact so fast. I'm sure you've heard of a certain cartoon that got criticized for the same thing. (I know, harsh comparison, but it got memed on for a reason)
  • This is something that might be seen more as an opinion, but whatever. The voicelines (the short exclamations, not the fully voiced dialogue) of the characters are jarringly frequent. I feel like it could benefit from having them speak less frequently.
  • The characters are also overall very unpleasant. There is no real harmony or sense of blossoming friendships or rivalries between any of them. I know that they're not going to all hold hands in a killing game, and that this is only the prologue, but it is still very foreboding. In the original Danganronpa series, they were still able to forge bonds, which made when the characters die or betray each other all the more impactful. (I cried a shameful amount of times during certain trials lmao) It feels like a majority of the characters are only sarcastic and snarky with each other. It makes everything feel irony-poisoned and insincere. Nothing feels genuine. Everyone is putting on the same mask.

I wanted to also list out things I did like, so that people don't think I'm only trying to attack on the game:

  • Like I said before, it's obviously commendable that this project was able to push through its difficulties, and it's clear that there was a lot of effort put into this game.
  • The art is also really well done and gets the style down well, especially the CGs, which are particularly gorgeous.
  • The music is also pretty good.
  • The accomplice gimmick is very cool, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how that pans out. I have high hopes!

Even if you don't agree with all of my criticisms, I hope you can at least consider what I'm saying. I'm also aware that I'm writing all of this about a free game that is being made by volunteers, and that there was a lot of turmoil during its production and therefore leaves some room to cut you guys some slack on certain things, but even so, I don't think this makes it immune from criticism. I want to take your game seriously. I want to be invested! I'm sure you want your audience to be invested too.

Hey Mxie,

thank you for taking the time to write out such a detailed message.

As long as people are respectful in their phrasing we welcome both positive and negative feedback. However I hope you also understand that due to criticism being very subjective in nature it is impossible for us to take everything into account that we hear. You are valid in disliking the parts you mentioned about the writing, but we've funnily also received many people mentioning these exact points being a reason they enjoyed the game so much.

Nonetheless I will send this criticism along to our writer staff, but I ask you to understand that they have the decision in how to shape their work. Since this is a volunteer project it is important to me to leave freedom to our staff to express themselves in a way that they're the most motivated about. It is their choice which criticism they will take into account and which not, I will not influence that.

Our game isn't perfect and that's okay, you are free to dislike it and do not need to feel bad about it. I do hope you find other projects/ games that are more to your taste! Though I do appreciate you mentioning the positives as well, thank you!

Does it have Japanese VA?

(+2)

No!

(+3)

This is AMAZING. Unlike some other fangans, this one has a great balance between inspiration and originality.

The designs, variety, comedic events, everything is geared towards the right audience. The stable diffusion joke really stuck with me.

The puzzles were unique, the game rules, the mascot, the soundtrack, all original, but with that Danganronpa touch that we all love.

(+2)

Hi, I already downloaded and played it.

I must say I loved it. I'm really looking forward to playing Chapter 1 and seeing what interesting things happen. I wish you the best of luck in the development and hope I can play it soon.

(+1)

Downloaded it, extracted the files and everything but my computer wouldn't let me open it, said it was unrecognized and could be dangerous. Any way to fix this? It didn't give me an option to open it.

(+2)

Windows is always going to give you a potential Virus warning for any unlicensed software.

As we are a nonprofit volunteer project it would not be worth it to buy an official game license, which is why you will have to simply ignore the Virus warning.

There should be an option to open the .exe nonetheless in the Warning screen. Just click that and you are good to go.

I understand that we are simply a person on the internet, so I do not judge you for being too careful. You can always check out our youtube playthrough recording as well!

(+1)

LETS GOOOO! im loving this game and visuals <3

(+1)

I'm excited to play it, I've seen the art for awhile and I've thought it looks amazing!

(+3)(-2)

will this game ever be playable on Mac?

Sorry no. Since we are a volunteer team, making a port that is proven to work on Mac would allocate too much of our time.

You can always watch our recorded playthrough on our youtube channel though!!

(+1)(-1)

how do i download this? do i need to extract the files?

(-1)

Yes, you need to unzip the file you downloaded.

(+1)(-1)

Is there any way of switching which monitor to play on? It seems to only open on my second monitor...

(+2)

I'm not one of the devs, but if you use the shortcut Shift + Windows Key and then either the left or right arrow key, you can send a window to your other monitor.

(+4)(-1)

IT'S HERE!!! Have fun, everyone!!!

WE'RE SO SEATED LETS GOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!

HOLY SHIT, KILL CURE IS OFFICIALLY HERE!
