If you do comment on an entry then please respect my privacy and not cross-post to FaceBook! I really don't trust them where individual privacy is concerned.

Please feel free to friend me so you can pick up the fanfic notices and artwork when checking your friends' list. If you just want to hang around quietly and read then please don't worry as I am not expecting comments from you for anything posted, though I'll be most happy if you should feel like leaving a comment.

However, if you do have an insane urge to hear me rant and rave, or want to read any personal updates or the rare WIP before it gets smoothed and posted publicly, then please go to my DREAMWIDTH account at: TARLANX on DREAMWIDTH. Please bear in mind that I do make a conscious effort to read and respond to posts I spot while checking my friends' list and if you do ask me to friend you back then it would be nice if you said hello from time to time in return!

1. I added a few more stories to my profile on SquidgeWorld. I figured I'd start with some of the largest/longest stories as they are all in different fandoms so won't annoy anyone from a sudden avalanche in any particular fandom!

2. While I was at it I noticed some of my fiction on AO3 is on a different fandom name - example: Primeval instead of Primeval (TV 2007) - so I fixed all of those. I expect they were getting picked up under the new name BUT both names appeared on my AO3 fandoms list on the profile page, which is long enough already!

TV SHOWS:

Death in Paradise:

Final episode in the season. This one was interesting and sad too though I figured out what had happened to the son all those years earlier. Felt sorry for the ex-wife and her new partner having their plans for a family destroyed in one senseless moment that shows that even the slightest assault can lead to tragedy. Felt sadder for the ex-husband who tried to hide the truth of his injuries just so she could have that happiness.

Phantom Lawyer:

I started watching this new series not realizing it was being aired weekly. So far I have seen 10 episodes but I'm not sure how many there will be eventually. This Korean series is about a young lawyer who is rejected by all the law firms as his father was a supposedly corrupt prosecutor. In the end he decides to rent an office and start his own firm. However the office space was previously used by a shaman and for some reason Shin I-rang can see these aggrieved ghosts. He starts to take them on as clients, hoping to resolve their issues so they can move on to their next life without any remaining resentment of concerns. Overall I am enjoying the series though I do have a little bit of a squick with second hand embarrassment for when he gets possessed by one of these ghosts. Not enough to stop me watching though as the whole idea fascinated me :) It reminds me of similar shows I've enjoyed like Medium and a really old series (1990/1) called Shades of LA with John D'Aquino (from Seaquest)

The Pitt:

Hour 13 and 14: Still enjoying this but I am worrying about Robbie and if he is suicidal. Fortunately someone has called him out on this and I hope he will seek help if it is the case. The night shift have arrived and are taking a little of the weight off the dayshift's shoulders now. Only 2 more episodes to go.

Kirisan:

A 16 episode Korean drama with a supernatural element about Park Rangers on Mount Kirisan National Park trying to stop a serial killer who is making his murders look like accidents. It was a really good show though the time jumping back and forth between the present and past was a little annoying sometimes but it was an interesting way to move the plot forward by showing rather than telling whenever the leads gained more information about the killer and his possible motive. Lots of red herrings, lots of action, dramatic rescues, tragedies and joyful moments too. Definitely worth watching if only for the beautiful scenery!

The Great Pottery Throw-Down:

Episode 2 was all about creating BOOKENDS. They had to be functional and 'tell a story/be related'. They were all very good and once again none of them were terrible but Kaz had not given her bookends a solid finish by lacking a base despite it being very cute. The didn't really understand Whitney's science story but I understood the piece and thought it very well executed. The winning bookend was quite complicated in the design but I thought it was a little dull with almost solid block green coloring - or perhaps it simply did not come through so well over a TV screen.

REMINDERS and EXTRAS:

1. LIVEJOURNAL

I saw the way the wind was blowing many years ago, back in 2009, when LJ was bought out by a Russian company and made the exodus to Dreamwidth. I removed any posts I considered personal but as I had a permanent account at LiveJournal, I continued to crosspost fandom related things over the years such as AO3 story links and graphics from many challenges - even this weekly FANDOM UPDATE.

The fact that I have a permanent account automatically makes me a PRO user without the monthly payment so partially exempt from the new changes. I have never enabled Cyrillic Services as I had no need. At this moment in time I have no idea how all the new changes will affect me. The whole recent announcement seems driven from two side - MONEY and RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT. I do not live within Russia's borders and I don't generate any revenue for the company so I am not the kind of user they want.

My biggest concern is actually all the images I have in albums on LiveJournal. Basically I have had free image posting for over a decade and most images in my DW posts are linked back to those images in my LJ photo albums.

MOVIES:

404:

A Thai movie about a scammer who takes on a hotel to refurbish so he can sell it at a profit. However, the reason the hotel is so cheap is because it is haunted by a particularly violent ghost. The movie is black comedy and amusing in places. The guy and his friends try various means to get the ghost woman to leave and eventually find out WHY she will not go. It has some silly deaths and comedy violence but it does end in a good place for both the guy AND the ghost where they both get what they need in the end.

Forgive Us All:

A story of a woman surviving during a zombie apocalypse but who has lost both her husband and child. It is set in Australia (as a guess) and follows her as she finds and helps a man escaping with a vial of the cure, crossing through dangerous territory to help save his son who had been bitten.

Fallout:

I'm not sure why but I started watching this and has seen a couple of episodes now. It is a strange show that starts with a nuclear apocalypse and then moves forward 219 years into the future. The opening sequence of the bombs falling is so good.

Squid Game Challenge:

I watched season 2 of this reality show version of Squid Game. It was interesting seeing the different approaches and the highs and lows of humanity on display. In particular I adore Trinity who deliberately gave up his chance of winning because he was a righteous person and believed the others had a greater need for the money. What was sad about that was one of those finalists was a high stakes Poker player who had been lying and was already a multi-millionaire. Fortunately he didn't win overall.

The Great Pottery Throw-Down:

The new season (9) has started and I watched the first episode where they had to create a cohesive soup bowl set comprising of a tureen, two bowls and a ladle. I did like ALL the ones created and the person who was given Potter of the Week was a worthy winner, though it had to be a hard choice as some of the other sets were also amazing, especially Angharad's. Sadly Olympia did not do as well overall, coming last in the mini-challenge and having issues with cracks in her bowls, so she was the first to leave. I did love her soup set design though, more than I liked some of the others :)
