When the first travel ban, targeting mostly Muslim countries, began in 2017, thousands of volunteer attorneys descended on US airports, including O’Hare, to assist travelers with their rights. CAIR-Chicago knew then that this energy and resolve needed to be both sustainable and perpetual, and so that weekend, Tapus.org was created, and it has been in service ever since as the only 24/7 airport traveler assistant project in the country.
