PS3

Due to recent developments, I finally bought a PS3. On the network for media center purposes, but blocked at the router from actually connecting to the internet and updating itself. The lack of going online won't bother me, online gaming with strangers is unappealing anymore thanks to the 4chan generation.

While I already had a 360 that barely got used, the lack of things like bluray, wireless, and HDMI was rather an annoyance. I'm not really sure what the point of Windows Media Center is unless your entire collection of media is in WMV format. There is transcoding software that remedies this to the point. TVersity looked nice, until I found out you had to sell your soul to Satan to get MKV to work, and then suck his dick to get subtitles to work after that. PS3 Media Server had some 360 support back then, but after the fact it wasn't worth the effort, and my PC remained next to my TV.

If these consoles will never support MKV format, then it's more a limitation of the PC side to get things to work like I want. I managed to watch a 720 episode without any stuttering, but it was a rather low motion ep, so encoding would be easy. The real test is my 1080 copy of Eva 2.0.

There is a bright side, movies without subtitles can just be remuxed as a MP4 stream without any reencoding, so as long as I'm pirating American movies I can stay with full HD. Joy.

I'd like to have my house looking decent by the end of the year, that means moving all my computer crap to another room. As long as I can get the media center crap working, this can actually happen.

So, I actually got it, unable to resist the pull. Unlike every other PC game I've avoided, Starcraft won't die until SC3 comes out in another 14 years, so I might as well get started on it. Even after playing WoW so long, I've never actually played Warcraft 3 (I know the entire storyline so I'm not really drawn into playing it now) nor even finished WC2, but I'm actually enjoying the single player campaign of this one. The graphics are amazing and the plot is more than just a text mission briefing before and after a mission.

I'm resisting this Real ID shit as long as I can, but my basic user info is as follows.
Character: Taloon
Friend code: 296

"A new Rasmussen survey in West Virginia finds Gov. Joe Manchin (D) is the early leader in a special election to be held later this year to fill the late Sen. Robert Byrd's seat.

Manchin leads Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R), 53% to 39%, and tops Secretary of State Betty Ireland (R), 65% to 26%.

Key finding: 77% of the state's voters approve of the job Manchin is doing as governor"

The real question is who will be the sacrificial lamb to run against him. Capito might try to ride in an anti Obama wave in 2012, but he'll be an incumbent by then her House seat is pretty safe at the moment. Or she might run for Governor. I don't pay much attention to local politics, but we've been in the national news lately.

This time it's a fishing club. The cute girls number two, a pair of busty sisters, one a delinquent with the chest the size of the Himalayas, who fights with her fishing pole.

Only two chapters translated (out of eight total so far) so it was quick enough read.

So I have friends over, and one of them brings up The Presidents of the United States of America up on his laptop. Wow, old. I turned 29 a month ago, near the big 3-0. 1995 is old now. I guess I realized this when Nick-at-Nite actually start showing stuff I grew up with, instead of the 50s sitcoms that aired on it back when I was younger. Fuck you Space-time.

It's amazing what one hit wonders I can bring up from that era that all of us know, even though we have diverging musical interests at this point. Most of the mid-90s alternative acts I remember have failed. Nirvana barely made it that far, Foo Fighters I think might still be around, but never heard anything past The Colour and the Shape. The latest Offspring and Green Day albums are still awesome, but Weezer's latest stuff I have mixed feelings for. I need to listen to Raditude a few more times I suppose. Sometimes it take time to sink in, wouldn't have been the first time it took me several listens to even like an album. We shall see.

And despite being nearly 30 years old, Bad Religion still puts out a good one every few years. Intellectual Punk is still a rather rare genre, and a lead singer with a Phd is pretty awesome and amazing. Above anyone else, high school wouldn't have been the same without them. Nofx is similar, except much less college degrees, far more drugs and booze. An album wouldn't be complete without a song about being an alcoholic. Another staple punk act of that period that I've never given up on.

It's also scary that both Trent Reznor and Marilyn Manson are over 40 as well. Back when I was told I was going to Hell for owning the downward spiral, I never imagined I'd live to see the day when that album would be considered tame. But I now know the Beatles were once the TOOL OF SATAN, and realize that this happens every generation.

The root of all this comes from hearing Meat Loaf on Letterman back when Bat II was released got me hooked on music in general. Though I guess I can say I love Duran Duran, there's little from the 80s I actually remember. Back then listening to Bat I when most of what you've been exposed to has been 80s pop, does something. It changes your soul. Music changes from something you just hear in the background on the radio while you're riding to the mall, to something much deeper, and awesome.

I'm not sure if I even have enough friends to get this finished, but here we go.

Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever music player you have on random.
Step 2: Post a line/stanza from the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Bold the songs when someone guesses correctly. (No Cheating)

I skipped over instrumentals and any Japanese music (Since even I don't know whats being sung). Also the first pick was Nirvana's Endless Nameless, which was also skipped. 1.*Kurt Cobain screaming unintelligibly* might narrow it down to half their songs, but it might be hard to pick the right one.

1. And maybe Jack did it to Marilyn/But he did it to South Vietnam
2. A life in evidence/Is evidently lonely/We all need a tale to tell
3. Burn down the disco/Hang the blessed DJ
4. I've got Ace Frehley/I've got Peter Criss
5. But to his great surprise it seems she prefers guys/Who can kiss upside down in the rain
6. We need to laugh and sing and cry/And warm each others hearts tonight
7. The whole world hinges on your swings/Your secret life of indiscreet discretions
8. So crazy feel the hate/Yeah, I've got years to wait/I know it's not too late
9. There's something in the way she explains to me/"Please be careful, I exist in someone else's head"
10. I tried to tell her of Marx and Engles/God and Angels.
11. So when we are bad/We're going to scar your minds
12. And when I do you'd better hide all the girls/I'm gonna break their hearts all 'round the world
13. Unlimited edition with an unlimited supply/That was the only reason we all had to say goodbye
14. This distance/This dissolution/I cling to memories while falling
15. I give my heart to you/I give my heart, cause nothing can compare in this world to you
16. I didn't try pot 'til I was 21/But now I'm overcompensating
17. She tells herself that he won’t mind, he’ll never mind
18. He moved to California to start a new life/'Cause back in his hometown he just killed his wife
19. You have the right to remain silent/I'll get the lights... you get that smile
20. He was drifting in and out of sanity/But in every other way he was fine
