U.S. Senator Ted Cruz visited Abilene Thursday about the future of Dyess AFB, thoughts on the end of America's longest war, and undocumented immigrants in the city.

Senator Cruz has authored two amendments which he tells KTXS are focused very directly on Dyess' role as the premier bomber base in our system.

The Air Force is currently planning on moving from the B-1 to the B-21 in the future.

“I'm focused on making sure we see a continuity of mission at Dyess as we make that transition," said Cruz. "We will see Dyess remain the premier bombing base in the Air Force, both with the B-1 and then as the B-1 is phased out with the B-21.

With Abilene being his main topic, Senator Cruz is aware of ICE's mishandling of undocumented immigrants in Abilene.

“You just see caravans of people and by the way they don't have to be apprehended they go seek out the Border Patrol agent," said Cruz. "They turn themselves in and within days the Biden administration puts them on a plane and flies them all over the country to Abilene, or anywhere else.”

Senator Cruz also discussed with KTXS about the ending of America's longest war and how displeased he was on how it was handled.

“I will say the last couple of weeks have been very difficult for Americans across our country," said Cruz. "It has been horrifying to watch the catastrophe unfold in Afghanistan, and this didn't have to happen.”

As for Abilene and Dyess AFB, he believes the future is bright.

“I am a champion for Dyess," said Cruz. "Let me say the community and Abilene does such a tremendous job of supporting the airmen of Dyess.”
