KSrelief funding of US$ 5 million enables WHO to sustain dialysis services for more than 5500 patients across Sudan
9 July 2026, Port Sudan, Sudan – A US$ 5 million grant from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) has helped the World Health Organization (WHO) sustain uninterrupted dialysis services for 5568 patients in 62 operational dialysis centres across 12 states in Sudan. Through the project, WHO procured and installed 60 dialysis machines, 60 dialysis chairs and six water treatment units, providing 230 000 dialysis sessions, essential medicines and medical supplies. The support sustained lifesaving treatment while strengthening dialysis capacity through long-term investments in essential equipment. Patients with kidney failure require at least 2 dialysis sessions each week to survive. The conflict that began in April 2023 severely disrupted dialysis services, which had been concentrated in Khartoum, forcing many patients to travel within Sudan or abroad to access treatment.
