<lj:music>Big Bang - Tonight</lj:music>

I was Skyping with my boyfriend a while back and he told me that the apartment he and I lived in while I was in Japan was known for it's "thick walls". I have it in quotes, because 1) we could hear a man snoring every freaking night 2) when the neighbors were downstairs, we knew they were downstairs 3) when someone knocks on the neighbor's door, it sounds like your own door 4) you could hear the neighbor's TV.

I couldn't even be sure if the man snoring was actually our neighbor or perhaps he was our neighbor's neighbor. There are many possibilities. But, let's pretend it's our neighbor's neighbor. Then imagine a couple getting their freak on (don't imagine me and my boyfriend... I said, "don't!" XD), while a man is snoring.

Here, I even visualized it for everyone XDD:

(Click for full-sized picture)

FYI: "Irete" means "Put it inside"... You know... LOL~!

I hope you enjoyed this. I can't help but think I had way too much fun drawing this (⌒_⌒;)

P.S. I can't help thinking Snore-san looks kind of like Naruto o_O

In which a foolish girl found the right man

Men* are amazing. They willingly withstand the cold for us by offering us their jacket, they don't think twice about opening the door for us, they use their strength to help us carry heavy things without us having to ask, etc.
*Note: Boys are not men.

Today, my boyfriend reminded me just how much a girl like me needs a man in her life.

At 4:00 AM this morning, I woke up to nausea that was already brimming up to my esophagus. I managed to run downstairs and stick my head in the toilet in time before anything came out. My boyfriend came down after me, but I told him to go back to bed. He refused.

Because we live in the country, there isn't a 24/7 convenience store around. My boyfriend drove 45 minutes to the nearest pharmacy and back to get me stomach medicine. Which I of course immediately puked back up.

I told him it might be morning sickness aka I might be pregnant. He nodded in response with a grim expression on his face, but he didn't get angry nor frustrated.

By 7:00, I had vomited at least half a dozen times. By the fourth time, all I was puking out was the tea I was drinking.

At that point he was running around trying his best to make me comfortable. He brought me cushions, a trash can so I could puke in instead of the dirty toilet, made me green tea, and stood by me the entire time.

Nothing helped. I was still vomiting like crazy, and at 7:30 I agreed to go to see a doctor. Turns out our appointment wasn't until 9:30. He took me to a room with a single bed and a chair and he had me sleep on the bed while he took the hard, plastic chair.

By 9:50 I had peed into a cup and gotten an ultrasound done. I am not pregnant. THANK GOODNESS.

At 11:00 was the appointment with the internal medicine doctor. He said that it may be an appendicitis, but I said I didn't feel any abdominal pain, only intense nausea. The doctor suggested he prescribe me some medicine for now, I agreed.

At 11:30, we took the prescription downstairs, but the wait time was over an hour, so he took me home. I went to bed, he showered, and within 30 minutes he was gone to coach baseball until 5:00 PM.

He came home at 2:00 PM to bring me the medicine. It takes 30 minutes to drive from the baseball field to our apartment. He assured me the other coach was okay with it. After administering the medicine to me, he drove another 30 minutes back to baseball practice.

At 6:00 PM he arrived home. He made dinner, did the dishes, made me another batch of tea, and made sure I was feeling fine before finally settling down to bed himself at 10:00 PM.

tl;dr - In the middle of the night, I experienced exactly what women describe as morning sickness. I thought I was pregnant.
Even though my boyfriend had to coach the next day, he stayed by me, took care of me, eventually took me to the hospital (not pregnant, phew!, but perhaps appendicitis), and made sure to tuck me in when we returned home.
Without so much as 3 hours of sleep, he went straight to coach his baseball team, came home in the evening, and made me dinner. Finally, and only after he made sure I was okay, he granted himself his much deserved sleep at 10:00 PM.

How an idiot like me found such an amazing guy is beyond me. But I know one thing for sure, I love this man! ♥

P.S. I am still very much in pain ｡゜(｀Д´)゜｡

I'm in fashion heaven ☆彡

After observing what girls on the streets wear, I've come up with a list of what of I think is popular winter fashion, along with pictures and everything~! ヽ(*≧ω≦)ﾉ
Note: These are just my opinions, which may or may not reflect Japan as a whole.

☆ One-piece dresses - Sometimes they come attached with a shirt under it, sometimes they aren't (so you can coordinate accordingly!)

★ Ponchos - Looks best over a one-piece, skirt, or shorts! My personal favorite is over a one-piece.
If you have a light-colored poncho, wear a dark one-piece (such as the brown or black one piece above). If you have a dark-colored poncho, wear a light colored one-piece (such as the beige one above).

☆ Long coats - More often than not, long coats are preferred over shorter coats. They are better to layer with.
Girls on the streets actually them wear with boots/the thighs showing~ (as pictured below)

★ Knit sweaters - Worn with skirts/shorts and long boots/leggings.

☆ Skirts - Even though it is winter, skirts are still the most common garments worn on the lower body (compared to shorts, pants, etc).
The skirts are made to be very warm, meaning lots of layers/laces/fur/etc.

★ Boots/Booties - Ones with fur decorations are very popular/cute looking.

That's it! JOKING JOKING.

I wish I could tell you guys really exciting things, but I haven't really left the apartment except to buy essential items, which means I haven't been able to go Christmas card shopping yet... It's kind of difficult because I don't live near any good shopping malls. I have to wait for the weekend when my boyfriend can take me. But then, I promise I'll look for Hello Kitty and Sailor Moon items/cards ^.^

I do have, however, 2 things to share:
1) They have very complicated toilets. I was at the airport and it took me a minute to find the flush handle (it was behind the lid), because there were a bajillion buttons to pick from. I was wondering what they were for, but then I saw the instructions on the wall with a cartoon image of a person's ass and then I knew!!!
I didn't take a picture, but I figured I'd let you all know my butt was THIS close to being <strike>violated</strike>cleaned.

2) I experienced my first Earthquake!! It happened in my province, with a magnitude of 4.6. It was exciting to the extent that I had never experienced one before and thought that someone was having a party upstairs of my own apartment without inviting me (the apartment is like a townhouse so you get two floors). I am completely safe, though!

P.S. I got dared by some friends to take a picture of my 'Amazed Tourist Look' pose: I stop, place my legs at shoulder width apart, lean back slightly and point with a full arm stretched out, and shout "Omg what's that?!"

LOL So yes, please look out for that. I need to do it at the opportune moment XD

For now, I leave you with a picture of me happy (and normal) under the kotatsu!

Wait to dry.
2. French manicure: Apply White on White to the tips of your fingers. The size of the manicure is up to you. For me, I covered a little less than half of each nail, because I've got super tiny fingers aka not enough nail space. Wait to dry.
3. To begin the gingham pattern: Draw thin, horizontal lines with your paintbrush using Go Go Pink. I drew 2 lines per nail. After doing each nail, I went back over each line a second time.
4. To finish the gingham pattern: Repeat step 3, except this time make vertical lines, perpendicular to the horizontal ones. Once again, I went back over each line a second time.
5. To create a bow: Using your paper clip, draw dots using Naked. Draw the dots at the cross-sections where the Go Go Pink lines intersect.
6. Now, using Re-Fresh Mint, draw 5 dots, like so:

7. To create the scrunched bow effect: Wait about a minute for the polish to get tacky. Using the other side (still sharp) of the paperclip, scrape a line from the center dot outwards to the middle of the other 4 dots.
8. Apply crystal: Apply a crystal to the center dot.
9. Optional heart for pinky: Using the side of the paperclip that should now be dull with dried polish, draw a heart on your pinky finger (it won't scrape the polish underneath).
10. To end: Wait for all that to dry. Then apply top coat to seal your nail polish and give it a shiny gloss!
That's it :D

(*￣ー￣*)/~~☆'.･.･:★'.･.･:☆'.･.･:★
Additional Pictures:

I tried so hard to show you guys how awesome these nails look, but my camera would not have it! In China, it is a holiday for worshipping the moon, greeting winter, and commemorating China's freedom from Mongol rule among other things... All of which I am not too clear of (^^ゞ But, to me, it is a time to get together with my friends and family~!

One of it's prominent features is the lighting of floating lanterns (孔明燈)... Like those seen in the movie Tangled! I think there is something very beautiful about these lanterns--they are flying in the sky without hesitation, even during the time when the sun is asleep~ To me, it's saying "even if everything is dark and mysterious, don't be afraid; I will always be here to show you the way"!

My other favorite part of the Mid-Autumn Festival are the traditional Moon Cakes (月饼), which symbolizes the full moon! (o´ω`o)ﾉ It has a very unique design, and is only eaten during this festival... Which is why the Mid-Autumn Festival for me is like Thanksgiving for Americans... I get rather plump and happy in the tummy for awhile （・∀・）! There are many flavors, but my favorite is Green bean and Red bean!

Actually, the Mid-Autumn Festival is not until September 12th, but I will be busy that day! So I am making the entry now~ ・・・・・★

The Chinese organization here in my city hosted a celebration today, as well, so I thought it was a good time to talk about it~! I met my friend there, and shortly after eating (aka getting fat!!) we left for the mall ^-^'' Haha... We didn't stay at the festival (it was really hot today)... We are girls after all... （´ー｀）. I found a really cute necklace~ It was the only thing I bought... Today, that is~ I bought some LORAC makeup which I will share once they arrive!

Price: $2.80 ($3.00 including tax)
Quality: 5/5 - What can you expect from something that's $2.80! I just hope it lasts a couple of months (∩_∩)
★ First of all... The mirror works! It is a real mirror, hehe~ So I can see myself (but only my eye because it's so small, haha~~)!
★ It's not clear from the image, but the white crystals are actually very shiny~! I think the attention to detail is amazing (゜▽゜)
★ Suuuper cute + cheap + unique + amazing details = absolute must have! ♥

I love how my post about a Chinese holiday also turns into a shopping post XDD... Too addicted to shopping!

So if you guys have a Chinese store, I definitely recommend you get some floating lanterns and moon cake and enjoy the night! I have prepared such for this Thursday~! (≧∇≦)/

All that's left was for them to give me some happy pills so I could experience a good trip, but oh well, no such luck (just ibuprofen) XDD

The worst part is I've neglected going to the dentist for so long that now I need to have root canal done on one of my teeth. σ(ＴεＴ；） When the doctor told me the bill I about dropped my head... $900 without the crown. (●ﾟдﾟ●) Isn't that a little steep? Just a little? Or maybe A LOT??? I loved their service, but I am going to see if I can't find a cheaper dentist somewhere else!

So that's it xD Aside from that, school has been a pain, group work sucks, now looking for a new job, trying to network with corporate people is scary, watching Ikemen Desu Ne, reading Kimi ni Todoke, and that's it! ＼（＾ ＾）／

    <lj:music>Sunny Hill - Pray</lj:music>

I took the GMAT exam yesterday... I feel SO liberated! YAAAY \o/ I immediately got my results x___X Do you guys wanna hear? NuuuooooOoo I don't wanna reveal it though >_< I was definitely aiming a little high when I selected to send my scores to Stanford and UPenn... Their average acceptance score is around 700 T^T

The exam is super expensive @ $250, so I had decided not to retake it... My dad said if I could get like 10-20 points higher, it's a good decision, because Stanford and UPenn are still out of my league, but if I can score at least 50 points higher, then l have a shot at Stanford *____* Thank you daddy for the encouragement! ♥

Anyway, I don't wanna talk about the GMAT anymore X3 I went shopping yesterday (it is tax free weekend in South Carolina)! Would you like to seeee? Yeees?? :D YAY! ♥

Brand: Cathy Jean
Price: $40 (Original Price: $89.99)
Quality: 5/5 - SO light and comfy, none of the straps dig into my skin, and it almost feels like I'm not wearing any shoes!
★ My favorite thing about these heels are that they're very versatile~ I could wear them with jeans, skirt, a dress, casual, or formal. I'm also very particular about how the front of the shoes look.. I dislike squarish-toed shoes; they look like cheap Payless shoes to me >___< So these are a perfect shape to me!
★ Comfy + cute + great price = love it! ♥

The rest is behind the cut! ^___^

Brand: Fox @ PacSun
Price: $29.50
Overall Quality: 3/5 - To me, PacSun is a more expensive version of Forever 21 clothes (aka clothes that don't last long)... However, their clothes always fit me really well! Also very very comfortable~
★ I fell in love with the cute jersey design so I had to get it~ I tried it on at the store, and as you can see from above, it's loose but it also hugs my body. That's what I like about the shirt :D It's not the suffocatingly tight clothes at stores like A&F~
★ Comfy + cute + not so cheap = bought it for the look! ♥

Brand: Fox @ PacSun
Price: Free (Original Price: $22.50)
Overall Quality: 3/5 - Same as above
★ I love the combination of pink and blue on the shirt, as well as the cute logo on the back and the fact that it's a V-neck (I had scoop necks on T-shirts)~
★ Comfy + cute = everyday shirt! ♥

Brand: White House Black Market
Price: $67.46 (Original Price: $84)
Overall Quality: 5/5 - The fabric is very light and flowy, and looks super cute when I twirl
★ I bought this skirt to wear to work (with a black shrug), but it can most definitely be worn casually (as is above), or to a party :D Love skirts that don't just sit in my closet waiting for the right occasion (which happens like once a year).
★ Versatile + gorgeous + looks awesome = so much love ♥

Brand: White House Black Market
Price: $40.15 (Original Price: $84)
Overall Quality: 5/5 - The fabric is very light and flowy, and not cheap at all!
★ When the sales girl showed this skirt to me, I was like "meh, looks like a prison skirt" (and it still does) >___< But when I tried it on, I was blown away by the slimming effect. I can totally get past the fact that it's a prison skirt with if I gear up in brightly colored accessories and pairing it with some cute shrugs.
★ Gorgeous + comfy = so much love ♥

Brand: JewelMint
Price: $15 (Original Price: $30)
★ I also bought these Very Audrey earrings from JewelMint; they've yet to arrive so I can't comment on the quality, but they look really pretty so I decided to get them despite me not being a big fan of purchasing online.
★ If you're interested, use the promotional code MAV5 to get 50% off your purchase (which is how I only paid $15). Shipping is free so $15 is the exact amount you'd be paying for them~
★ I do have to warn you guys though, JewelMint is like a monthly subscription. When you first sign up, you fill out a style questionaire. They then e-mail you with a "Showroom" of jewelry that they think will suit your taste (which comes in a monthly e-mail, so if you don't want to receive it, use an alternate e-mail). If you don't like the items they selected, you can choose to remove or drop items from your Showroom. After your first purchase, you MUST tell them in the future if you don't want an item as it becomes a subscription. Simply tell them you don't want anything that month.
★ I personally do not like a lot of things JewelMint has, but these earrings really stood out. Cross my fingers they're not Claire's quality jewelry!

To see more pictures, check out Lily''s blog for some gorgeous pictures!

Description of the item from the website: Add a touch of flirty feminity to any outfit with these sparkly, silver plated poinsettia stud earrings. Understated yet glamorous, these little sparklers are perfect to elevate your everyday look to one of sophistication and luxury. They are that little something that every casual outfit needs to pull it together
Inspired by: Kate's Chanel diamond star earrings.

And I aaaalso bought some headbands from Francesca's Collection, but since there's no stock pictures and real pictures do them no justice, I won't be posting them xD

Whew *wipes sweat* Long entry is long x___X

Contemplating whether to get this Maxi dress from Maurices...
...The effort shows, right? I hope so. It's my boyfriend's birthday on the 12th, and I decided to make something since I had no idea what to buy him. Remember when I mentioned the creepy Cubic Mouth that he likes so much? Well, I decided to make him a cup based off of that character =.=

It's still creepy to me, but I figured there had to be a way to make it cute! In the end, I have no idea what my true feelings are about the results, just that if he likes it, then I would feel really relieved and happy! ^____^

The design also features a red string that wraps around the cup, signifying the red string of fate I also mentioned before. I asked him once if he believed in god, and he said "no, but if I did, it must have been God who brought us together". Those words have stayed with me, and I think he will appreciate the red string that shapes into a heart on one side, and then his favorite character on the other~!

I also found the cutest card ever at Hallmark the other day. It has a flap that can be inserted so that it stands! I'm one of those people who love receiving cards, yet they kind of just get shoved in a drawer =.= I don't know where else to put it XD But this one is just so creative! I thought for sure if I ever went to his house and he had it up on display, I would get an overwhelming feeling washed over me! I don't know if guys will actually put it up on display, but I can hope!

And if you guys are curious as to how I made the cup... It was really simple! I bought this kit on sale at Toys R Us (I believe it was $16 pretax), and then went over to Michael's for some glazed mugs which were $1.99 each! You're suppose to let the paint dry for a day then shove it in the oven to bake for thirty minutes and the paint should be permanent (well as permanent as it'll get)!

I still have the entire tea cup set left (comes with everything shown), and I barely used up any of the paint so I think this will be a wonderful project for me and my 7 year old sister ^___^!! Mwahaha, I am such a good sister XDD

I think this was a perfect present if you want to get something handmade and sentimental, so I recommend this as a gift idea for any occasion!! For now, I am just wiping the sweat off that I finished it and have it shipped to Japan! He said he'll definitely like anything that I get him, so I feel kind of like there's no pressure, but I still wanted to make something meaningful. My crappy artistic skills aside, I think I did pretty well!

I hope everyone is doing well ^^ Until next time!

I just finished watching Akai Ito (Red String of Destiny) in one sitting! Another day of having nothing accomplished o/

"God tied you and I together by our fingers with a long string." - The premise of the drama. For a simple love story, it sure had a lot of tragedies, but every loose end was tied by the end, which is what makes me so fond of this drama! The name of the drama comes from an ancient Chinese legend. I always thought the meaning was happy, but it turns out it's bittersweet.

This was a real tear-jerker for me, and I wished wasn't so soft, but every little ripple of emotion seems to be magnify tenfold on my face. If someone was sitting next to me, they would say "Ahhh, her face is so transparent. Even without watching the movie, I'd know what kind of situation was going on." XD

There are many variations of the red string of destiny, this is just one of them:
Long ago, a man was walking along a mountain path, on the way to see his fiancée when an old man appeared before him. The old man said, "Being a man of Meikai (world of the dead), I can see the red thread that connects one person to another. You are not tied to the one you are going to meet. The one you are tied to by a red thread is that child." He then pointed his finger to a baby carried by a monk who happened to pass by.
The man, who got angry, killed the baby's mother, and her attendant. And then, more than 10 years later, the man had a destined meeting. His partner had been just a baby before. But the once-babbling baby soon grew into a beautiful woman. Unaware of what had happened in the past, the two of them fell in love.
Before long, the two of them came to know of their past and the truth was painful. And so, they chose to part. "If we are connected to each other by a red thread, then we will meet again" - so they believed.

If you find the back story interesting, I definitely recommend you watch as an ordinary middle school girl go through the extremes of life, while discovering the meaning of the red string! I downloaded my copy from D-Addicts.

Let me know what you guys think/thought (if you've already seen it)! It really is refreshing to finish another drama after a long hiatus~!

As I'm typing, I'm also eating slices of apples from a toothpick (aka feeling like a queen), listening to Owl City's Strawberry Avalanche on repeat, and enjoying the warm Saturday sunshine streaming through my windows. All of this is foreshadowing an impending lazy day filled with nothing fruitful, and you know what? To hell with this world! No work, you can't have me. No school, you have no say in what I do today! No stress, I will NOT give in to you. Today is my effing day ♥

So what else would I do but revisit my childhood and paint my nails despite it not being work appropriate? I am here to share the crop yields of my non-productive day: A strawberry patch!

Interested in more pictures/what I used? Follow me behind the cut :D

Before I continue, I'm going to go ahead and say that this is not my idea at all! I've been a long time fan and subscriber of bubzbeauty, and she put up a video of this, so go ahead and take a look at her tutorial :D

My only gripe with her video was that the polishes she used are like insanely hard to get in the US, so I thought I'd list what I used which is 100% USA-friendly!

What I Used:
♥ Seche Clear crystal clear base coat
♥ China Glaze in Japanese Koi (Neon)
♥ China Glaze in Tree Hugger
♥ China Glaze in White on White
♥ Petites in Jewel #444 (but honestly, any sheer glitter polish will do, I recommend one with tiny tiny glitter particles)
♥ Seche Vite dry fast top coat

Anyway, before I go on if you guys have a Sally's Beauty Club card, there's currently a coupon (I snagged it in store, so not sure how else to get it) for a free Seche Clear base coat with the purchase of a Seche Vite top coat (expires 3/31/11). That's 2 for the price of 1! Also, even if you don't have a Beauty Club card, China Glaze is on sale at 2 for $10 (expires 3/31/11). Petites you can find at Wal-Mart for $1.50! Cheap cheap stuff.
However, I bought my Petites long time ago, and last week they weren't available anymore :\ It was a seriously one of a kind color. It looked like I was adding a layer of silky white prisms onto my nails, giving them that subtle gleam.

Directions:
1. Apply a base coat. This will protect your nails. Wait to dry. I recommend doing one hand at a time.
2. Apply the Japanese Koi (Neon) all over your nails. Wait to dry.
3. Apply the Tree Hugger on the tips of your nails, making 3 arch shapes.
4. While you're waiting for Tree Hugger to dry, take the White on White and draw dots. I agree with bubz that 3 seems to be a good number, however, I did 4 on my thumb. I preferred my dots more oval for that strawberry look.
Don't worry if the dots turn out uneven! Being identical is super boring. Give some variation to your strawberries :3 they're all siblings, anyway (you are the mommy... LOL <strike>dork moment</strike>).
5. When you're done dotting, Tree Hugger should be dry, so layer your green leaves with Petite's Jewel for a bit of sparkle!
6. Wait for all that to dry. Then apply top coat to seal your nail polish and give it a shiny gloss!
That's it :D

Additional Pictures:

This is definitely going to put me in an awesome mood for the rest of today <3 I highly recommend this to everyone (even if you have to remove it by Monday like me!). I'm going to end this entry since I need to go do... NOTHING. Wahahaha.

Bye ♥!

So, I've probably never told you guys how my first day of work went, so let me begin by telling you my post office story. Being the lowly intern that I am, I was assigned the important task of delivering mail to the post office, which led to my incredible double failure.

Now, I have been to post offices to send out mail before, but it's just not a process I have internalized. If it's stamped mail, I put it in my mailbox, raise the red flag, and expect it to be delivered. If it's a package, I go into the post office, fill out whatever form I need, pay, and let the mailman do the rest. So... MAIL BOXES, I have sworn you as my enemy. The ones at the post office I got sent to come in different colors, sizes, and species (I swear).

Failure Numero Uno: It's 4:30 PM. I placed ALL the mail into a very inviting orange mailbox. As I was walking away, I see the words "FedEx express" on the side of the box. Oops. I went inside and they told me the FedEx guy promptly comes at 6:00 PM (YEAH RIGHT). That was my first failure.

At 5:30 PM, when I got off work and drove back to the post office, I was still pretty calm. It only takes 5 minutes to get to the post office, and then all I had to do was wait for the FedEx guy to come. Well, 6:30 passes and I'm freaking out. Did they come early? Is the mail going to get returned to the office? Am I going to get fired?

One of the postal workers decided to stick around and see it through with me (after I explained my dire situation). That was good... And bad. He gave me a lecture on how young people get married too early and that's why the divorce rate is so high. He also told me the best ways to raise a child of my own. He also said some other stuff I wasn't quite paying attention to, but one thing that stuck with me was how he told me to never be alone by myself with a stranger. Roger that.

So it being a really cold January night and me not prepared to stay out past sunset, I got really really cold at 6:30 with the sun being gone and all that. He told me he had to get something in the office, but didn't want me to be alone (at this point there was no one else but me and him), so he walked me to my car, watched me get in, and told me not to open the window for anyone. Moments later, I saw a car pull up beside me and it was his. I got out of my car and waved for him to roll down his window to thank him for waiting with me and that I was leaving at 7:00. He said I looked cold, and that if we still wanted to talk until then, I could hop in his car since the heater was on.

Um... He was the one that emphasized that I shouldn't go off with strangers, and here he was trying to put me in such a situation (he definitely looked like he could jump me and steam me for dinner with a side of rice). So, I declined and immediately pulled off and left :\

Failure Numero Dos: On the way home, the fact that I was leaving the post office really bothered me, so I called up FedEx, and they told me that the FedEx guy goes through every mail, and if it's not Express mail, he puts it in its respective mailbox. FAILURE #2: Not using my head to do the obvious, and WORRYING FOR NOTHING. Why didn't I just call FedEx to begin with? Oh, right, because I expected the FedEx guy to be on time.

Fuuuuuu. Life was against me that day. But, I think it's safe to say I still have my job and I'm going strong :D

So, can you guys guess who has become a tax <strike>geek</strike>nerd? (I had originally said geek, but then I remembered that according to my friend geeks are not cool, but nerds can be... And you know me, I want to be cool.)

I was driving home with a coworker and we were talking about hairstyles when she told me she had donated her hair in the past. My first reaction was "Do you think that's tax deductible?" SUPER <strike>GEEKY</strike>DORKY, I KNOW.

Well, I looked it up and guess what? It's not. Well, it is, but going by the lower of cost or basis rule, the basis of your hair at the time of donation is $0, even if it cost you money to grow it (shampoo, etc), because that's a personal expense. So unless you bought the hair to begin with (which would be weird), then the cost and/or basis is $0.

I should hit myself. This answer is so obvious. Lower of cost or basis. Duh. Can I truly call myself a tax geek... Nerd... WHATEVER!

So, it also means we can't tax deduct an organ donation... But I'd like to think it's because our organs are priceless :D

So for those of you that don't know, I started my internship as a tax preparer on January 10th... Well, 11th because South Carolina freaking snowed and everything closed! Intense first day of work, I tell ya :D

Every day I encounter different people. Some of them are really interesting, like the guy named Adam. Just Adam. That was his entire name. I got in contact with him and turns out he's a hippie! He legally doesn't have a last name. How cool is that :D?

Today, marked the first of two other encounters. I did my first tax return where the wife earned more than the husband! In my head I was doing a "you go girl!" dance, haha.

The other encounter wasn't such a good one. The taxpayer's wife passed away in 2009, so while the taxpayer filed MFJ for his 2009 tax return, he has to file as a single taxpayer for the tax year 2010... Which meant I had to delete all evidence of his wife in the tax program we use. It really had an effect on me... He knew that's what we had to do, and he went ahead and wrote a memo that said to do it since it'll help with tax preparation in years to come. His wife had income and expenses just about everywhere he did. Every time I deleted an item that belonged to his wife, it seemed like I was erasing an important part of him, a part of his life that wasn't going to come back.

So, while I still can I have to live! I'm going to live with all I've got! As my friend says: Everyone wants to be happy and nobody wants to feel pain, but you can't have a Rainbow without any rain ♥ :D
