GET THE LOOK || MARY McDONNELL [PHOENIX COMIC CON 2015]

It wouldn't be a Major Crimes Week without a look at something purely Mary related...and she did wear this to an event where Major Crimes was featured so it's kinda related. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

The second that I saw this outfit, I was in love! From head to toe, in love, and it just had to make an appearance on my blog. It was destined to happen sooner or later and here it is.

In this blog are a few ideas on how to get a look similar to the one she sported for her photo op; the black blazer, the blood-orange-floaty top, the skinny jeans and the suede-esque booties. I was instantly in love with the ankle boots. This is why she’s one of my style icons. Plus, her makeup was enviable. I tried to recreate it in the makeup tutorial included.

With Major Crimes returning to screens in just a couple of days, I dedicated a week of posts on my blog to my favourite show. Two of my favourite things of the show are the fashion and makeup. As a result, I've got a week of 'Get The Look' posts where I provide ways on how to get an outfit inspired by the characters. I looked specifically at the fashion and makeup used in 'The Special Master' two-part season finale. I also included Hobbs, even though she wasn't in those episodes as part of an ongoing request which I'm finally able to fulfill. Below are the first two posts from the series, with two remaining, going live on Friday and Sunday.

The gist of these posts is so that you can emulate the characters and copy their style. Personally, I love to get shoes inspired by Captain Raydor and 'walk like Raydor' because I adore her style. Grey LaVoi dresses Mary McDonnell beautifully. You can embody the characters and maybe gain a little bit of their confidence through some items of clothing and makeup. I know that I do.

I've always wanted to read a book written by Kate Mulgrew because I love the way that she verbally communicates a story or an anecdote and I thought that a book would be just as interesting. Being a fan of Kate's for the guts of fifteen years, Born With Teeth was naturally going to be in my possession. I read it within the space of three days and I had a few thoughts on the book. Plus, for Lent I gave up makeup buying and it was sooooooo difficult with all the new releases happening for Spring so I went through my collection and basically shopped it.

Surprise, Sunday post!!! I wanted to do this makeup tutorial for aaaaaaages but am only getting around to it now because I fail at life. However, it’s perfect timing because this look is inspired by the makeup that Mary McDonnell wore in the promotional shots for The Cherry Orchard production that she is in and which ends its run this evening, I believe. The makeup was beautiful in these photos (even though they were run through Photoshop a bunch of times #grrr) and I attempted to recreate it.

GET THE "Feminine" LOOK || DECLAN MACRAE [SANCTUARY]

When girls can change up Doctor Who and Captain Mal Reynolds costumes to suit them, then I can do the same thing for my BAMF-ing Hero, Declan Macrae from Sanctuary and that's just what I did with yesterday's blog post. Yup, I did it and regret nothing! I'm obsessed with the jacket and the boots included in this outfit, actually obsessed that I just want to buy them and get my Macrae on!

I've also included a makeup look for a subtle look to brighten up the face because I was looking like a zombie and like I had been crying for twenty years. Stupid skin. Yes, for a 'Get The Look' of a bloke, I've included a makeup tutorial because I'm such a girl like that. Ha! Plus, I wanted to experiment with my new purchases.

JANUARY 2015 BEAUTY FAVOURITES

As always, January has crawled to its conclusion. I don’t know why but to me January feels like a never-ending month but it is finally over and we’re into the shortest month of the year. Hazzah! Congratulations, we’ve made it past the inaugural month of 2015.

With a self-imposed make-up ban in effect throughout January and my newly constructed Alex drawers from IKEA set up in my room, I have been rediscovering the gems that have been in my collection. It’s amazing what you can find once everything is out and in the open and not stuffed into three make-up bags and a SpaceNK bag. You can’t find a thing, I tell you!

Welcome to this week's Fandom Friday, everyone! This week brings you a make-up tutorial for the glorious and impeccable Helen Magnus from SyFy's Sanctuary. I loooooved this show. I loved everything about it, the writing, the characters, the green screen, the kick-ass-ness, the actors and the oh-so-hot actors and now because I've become so obsessed with make-up, I've found a new appreciation for the make-up that was used on Amanda Tapping's character, Doctor Helen Magnus. So with all that being said... Shall we begin? See what I did there?

I wanted to do a video tutorial for this look. I had it all filmed and ready to edit but it just wasn’t meant to be. But I did come up with another method to show you how to get this look. I explain it all in my blog post. Also, before I forget, this look is achieved by using all brands from the drugstore so it’s kind to the pocket.

One chance day shopping in Belfast lead me to Waterstone's and to purchasing Zoe's book, Girl Online. I finally got around to finishing it - don't judge. My attention span is that of a grapefruit at times and I still have to finish A Dance With Dragons by George R. R. Martin and I only have 100 pages to go and yet managed 24 Star Trek related books in a month. Where was I? Oh yes, Zoe's book...

I'm going to take you all on another trip down memory lane. My first ever blog post was about three purchases that I made while on a day out. These were spur of the moment purchases and had no real reason beyond the fact that I was looking for something new to play with. You can tell by my oh-so-articulate analysis and reasoning in that post. I'm cringing just reading back over it. My make-up collection was just sprouting at this point and I took any opportunity to see what I could find to add to it. That day I found L'Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes So Couture mascara. But the day of purchase seemed to endeth my relationship with said mascara... Until now.

FAVOURITES || MAYBELLINE

Maybelline is one of my favourite brands out there. Whenever I’m in Boots, I spend an inordinate amount of time looking at the Maybelline stand to see what’s new and to see what shades I don’t have but must have because my life ultimately depends on it. I have a nice little collection of Maybelline products gathered since I started becoming interested in make-up.
