Grey Saturday

I am sitting here at Chris's computer with a big slab of haircolor on my head. In another fifteen minutes, I will be restored to diva status. I hate that I have so much grey hair! I started going grey at 18! I have had to color it ever since then! But it has been a wild ride, that is for sure. My hair has been every single color in the book: black, blonde, burnette, red... I never did any crazy punk colors though....It is one of my regrets in life. I am growing it out long right now so it would not be a good time. The next time I plan to chop it off, I will consider it.

So I am sending my best wishes out to Shawn moving into his new apartment today!!! I hope all is going well and that plenty of good and saintly people came to help you out. If we had been in town, we would have been there for sure. We sinners can haul furniture too! I bet Tiff is happy to have you so close by now! She can help you break in the new place....

Last night we went to Borders and browsed. I looked at a few massage and anatomy books and a few cook books they had on sale. I got this one with some bad ass Asian stuff and there are a few in there that I have really been wanting to learn to make. There is also a nice write up on curries. There was this one book called "Comfort Food" and I looked through it and there was all sorts of strange stuff [a lot of British sounding food!]. What is so comforting about kidney pie!? Yuck! I also got another Burt's Bees pedicure kit with the coconut foot lotion cause I have not seen mine in months and I want it! My feet always get rough in the summer cause I wear nothing but sandles and foot flops.

We have had a day full of little victories today. We ate at Moe's for lunch [rock!] and we ran some errands [such as donating a shitload of Chris's stuff to Salvation Army] and now I am coloring my hair so that will be taken care of too! I actually remembered the coupon I had for the hair color and I got 75 whole cents off! We went to the store and got the stuff to make chicken and dumplings tomorrow. I actually remembered all of the stuff from the house like the stock pot, shortnening and wax paper. Go me! That is just the type of thing I normally would have forgotten. Maybe the flower essences are helping... I know the Oil of Olay vitamins have been working! My skin looks great and my nails are growing faster! Of course I use a lot of other stuff on my skin too but at least it is also nourished from the inside. I have a shitload of cosmetics but I think that is a big reason why none of it is make-up except for gloss and stuff for going out. I contemplated starting to wear make up recently but Allison said if I have gone this long, not to start now.

Oh! I forgot to mention the mutant creature living near this building [if not in the roof somewhere]. A few nights ago, Alice was taking out the trash and she opened the side door and saw the beast. Chris heard her scream and ran outside. Her English is not great so she had a hard time telling him what she had seen. It really is getting better though! I can tell a diffference since she got here. I suggested to Chris that it might have been a possom. So he looked one up on the internet and she confirmed that was what she had seen. So we were driving up the lot next to the apartment last night and we saw something running up the little hill! It was the possom! It was big and it was UGLY! I would have screamed too! It came around the corner towards the car for a second and freaked me out but then it ran off. We heard some strange clawing this morning coming from the ceiling so I am sure we have not seen the last of it. Little bastard!

So, I better go wash my hair out.

FIRE SNAKE Horoscope
Jan 23, 1917 to Feb 10, 1918
Feb 18, 1977 to Feb 6, 1978

Snake people enter a room and there is Music, Music, Joy! Everyone dances! Such high spirit! The Snake is so intense and passionate, just as likely to take out the castanets as to climb mountains of snow. Snake year people are charming and romantic, often planning delightful hideaway surprises. Possessing tremendous wisdom, they are deep, quiet thinkers, calm by nature, but most intense. They often get involved in great causes, bigger than life, and often serve as mentors to the young. To paraphrase Confucius, they have a kind of inner beauty that arises, hovers, then comes to nest. They will have an abundance of good fortune and a long and prosperous life.

Sharkfin Soup and Chinese Cabbage are among keys to good health!! [Uhhh, Ok]

The Fire Snake is like a meteor in the sky, brilliant and alive. With spellbinding eloquence, the Snake converses with conviction on a broad range of topics, but realizes that good conversation lies as much in the listening as the talking. The Snake does both very well, raising communication to a very high and elegant art. People love to be in the company of this very graceful Fire Snake, who is always pleasant, provocative, humorous, and quick witted. With split second reflexes, they are constantly conceiving new ideas and coming up with new schemes. This entrepreneurial spirit makes headlines and the Fire Snake is much admired. Because of their ambition, perseverance, and infinite patience, and wise financial moves made early in life, their fortunes grow steadily. By the time middle age arrives, financial fortune is truly theirs. Relationships follow the same path, through faithfulness, perseverance, and willingness to make relationships really work, the future is always bright.

Famous Snake People: Mao Tse-tong, Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, Ferdinand Marcos, Abraham Lincoln, Lady Pamela Mountbatten, Martin Luther King, Grace Kelly, Jacqueline Kennedy, Edgar Allen Poe, Prime Minister Tony Blair, Bob Dylan

I wanna turn you on. HA! I am listening to "Siamese Dream"! I am having so much fun!! I saw them twice with Patrick and they were such great shows! If they did a reunion tour, I would go to see them. Fuck this Zwan shit though. I am having a hard time getting into Billy Corgan's new band. This is all Ryan's fault [allison's ryan, not our friend-----I had to clear that up cause I say that about Buck a lot too! :)] cause he was rapping in the garage, and he said "I smash pumpkins like Billy Corgan" or something and I had the passionate urge to dig out "Siamese Dream" and listen to it! It is sooooo great! It is in my top five favs of all time! I have had this copy since I was 18 or 19 and I don't remember who got it for me. It might have been Tiffany cause someone got me "Jagged Little Pill" too and I still have it. Ha! This copy of "Siamese Dream" has about had it though! It is sooooo scratched!

So I have some like 50 SPF sunscreen on and I am sitting out on the back porch writing this. I am boiling brown rice and am gonna mix it with some pintos and leftover cornbread tonight. I have no pepper sauce or vinegar though! :( Suckage! I am trying to get a little color on my legs cause they are white! I HATE shorts, HATE them! They are so uncomfortable for me! I love dresses though and I am gonna have to start wearing more or my legs will never see the light of day. I have a decent amount of color on my arms but not much on my face. I do not have my glasses on though so I am making a lot of mistakes! I have some lemon juice! I am gonna put some in my hair and lighten it a bit....and it will be much more natural too! I think my hair has forgiven me for lightening it.

Laura....Post some pics on the blog from your weekend! What is this resteraunt in Chicago? Is this for your birthday!? How fucking cool!

Just one more reason Bush should not be the leader of ANYTHING!

from Newsweek:
a NEWSWEEK investigation shows that Bush, along with Defense Secretary Rumsfeld and Attorney General John Ashcroft, signed off on a secret system of detention and interrogation that opened the door to such methods. It was an approach that they adopted to sidestep the historical safeguards of the Geneva Conventions, which protect the rights of detainees and prisoners of war. In doing so, they overrode the objections of Secretary of State Colin Powell and America's top military lawyers—and they left underlings to sweat the details of what actually happened to prisoners in these lawless places. While no one deliberately authorized outright torture, these techniques entailed a systematic softening up of prisoners through isolation, privations, insults, threats and humiliation—methods that the Red Cross concluded were "tantamount to torture."

Ok, I was reading this article and it was pretty funny. I especially agree with the one about "Four Weddings and a Funeral"! I love that movie but I HATE that scene! If the number one moment were to happen in real life, it would be nothing like that!
Busy Day Today!

So I have the meeting with DHR today about getting help paying for Molly's daycare....hopefully that will go through and it will help save some money! Today is the presentation for Dr. Sanders that my parents and a few others are putting together to get my mom to be able to keep her job. Her positon as webmaster got cut a few months ago and this summer is when it ends and she would have to go to one of the schools to work in one of the offices and take a HUGE paycut! She was devastated when she found out. Well, they assigned the website to someone else and they have already come forward and said they cannot handle the extra responsibility because my mom puts A LOT of work into it. She LOVES her job! So they went to some of the sponsers for Barrow County Schools to see if they would supplement some of my mom's salary for a permanent spot and mention on the school system website [great advertising and much cheaper than a billboard or newspaper ad!]. So today is the day it is all supposed to come together and hopefully my mom will get to keep her job. She will have to take a $5,000 cut in pay but it is better than $17,000!!! So keep your fingers crossed!!!

Good Luck Mom!!!

Hit the road Jack.....

Message from Mary Beth Cahill, Kerry Campaign Manager:
Dear Friend,

Over the past week we have all been shocked by the pictures from the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. But we have also been appalled at the slow and inept response by President Bush, which has further undermined America's credibility in the world and created new dangers for Americans in Iraq. George Bush must fire Donald Rumsfeld. But that is only a first step towards taking responsibility for his administration's failures in Iraq.

John Kerry has called on Donald Rumsfeld to resign, and today we're asking you to support him by adding your name to the call for Rumsfeld to resign here:

http://www.johnkerry.com/petition/rumsfeld.php

Help us show that America supports John Kerry in calling for Rumsfeld to resign. If 50,000 people sign this petition, that is a strong statement that will be recognized in the media -- and by the Bush-Cheney campaign. Help us get to 50,000 signers by today by forwarding this email to your friends and family.

The events of the last week are a stark reminder of the stakes in this Presidential election. John Kerry's remarks yesterday painted a striking contrast to President Bush's evasion of responsibility,

"As president, I will not be the last to know what is going on in my command," Kerry said. "I will demand accountability for those who serve and I will take responsibility for their actions. And I will do everything that I can in my power to repair the damage that this has caused to America, to our standing in the world, and to the ideals for which we stand...Today, I have a message for the men and women of our armed forces. As commander in chief, I will honor your commitment and I will take responsibility for the bad as well as the good."

Show George Bush and show the media that you support John Kerry's stand: Donald Rumsfeld MUST resign immediately. To sign please click here:

http://www.johnkerry.com/petition/rumsfeld.php

Obviously this is one of the most important petitions we will send out in the course of this campaign. Please forward this petition to EVERYONE in your address book and get the word out.

Thank you,

Mary Beth Cahill Campaign Manager, John Kerry for President

TIMELINE: What was known, and when. Fall 2003 Bremer repeatedly raises issue of prison conditions with Rumsfeld and the President's inner circle according to LA Times: "Bremer repeatedly raised the issue of prison conditions as early as last fall -- both in one-on-one meetings with Rumsfeld and other administration leaders, and in group meetings with the president's inner circle on national security. Officials described Bremer as 'kicking and screaming' about the need to release thousands of uncharged prisoners and improve conditions for those who remained." (Washington Post, Graham, 5/7/04)

November 5, 2003 Maj. Gen. Donald J. Ryder files report concluding that there were potential human rights, training, and manpower issues -- system wide -- that needed immediate attention. Discussed serious concerns about tension between missions of the military police assigned to guard prisoners and intelligence teams who interrogate them. (New Yorker Magazine, Hersh, 5/5/04)

January 2004 Rumsfeld learns of photographs showing prisoner abuse according to the Washington Post: "...Rumsfeld has known of the photographs since January, when they came to the attention of U.S. commanders in Iraq, he had not seen them, and he was not aware that CBS was about to air them until just hours before they were broadcast last week." (Washington Post, Graham, 5/7/04)

Mid-January, 2004 Bush told about the photo of abuse according to the Washington Post: "Marine Gen. Peter Pace...said Wednesday on CBS's "Early Show" that beginning in mid-January, everyone "up the chain of command . . . was kept apprised orally of the ongoing investigation." Asked if Bush "was well aware of the situation," Pace replied: "Yes."" (Washington Post, Allen, 5/7/04)

Late February 2004 Major General Antonio M. Taguba issues 53-page report concluding that between October and December 2003 there were numerous instances of "sadistic, blatant and wanton criminal abuses" at Abu Ghraib. Report was not meant for public release. (New York, Hersh, 5/5/04 and LA Times, McDonnell, 5/3/04)

March 2004 Six enlisted personnel charged with prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib. One is court marshaled. (AP, Burns, 5/3/04)

Mid-April, 2004 Military learns CBS has pictures of prisoner abuse in Iraq. General Abizaid and General Myers ask CBS to post-pone broadcast of the photos. (NY Times, Schmitt, 5/4/04)

April 28, 2004

Graphic photos of abuse of Iraqi prisoners are shown on CBS 60 Minutes 2. (AP, Crary, 4/28/04)

Rumsfeld provides classified briefing to Congressional leaders on situation in Iraq, fails to mention that photos of Iraqi abuse victims will be aired that evening on television. (Senate Armed Services Committee Testimony, Levin, 5/7/04)

May 3, 2004 Spokesman McClellan says that Bush still hasn't seen or been briefed on the Taguba report. (WH Briefing, McClellan, 5/3/04).

May 4, 2004 Rumsfeld says he disagrees with critics who have said the Pentagon moved too slowly. Defense Department officials have moved correctly and efficiently, he said. "The system works," he said. "The system works." Admitted he had not read the whole Taguba report or seen the photos. (DoD Briefing, Rumsfeld, 5/4/04)

Military discloses Army has conducted 30 criminal investigations into misconduct by American captors in Iraq and Afghanistan, including 10 cases of suspicious death, 10 cases of abuse, and two deaths of Iraqis already determined to have been criminal homicides. (NY Times, Neilan, 5/5/04)

General George Casey, Army's Vice-Chief of Staff, refers to a "complete breakdown in discipline." (NY Times, Reuters wire, 5/5/04)

PAID FOR BY MOVEON PAC, WWW.MOVEONPAC.ORG This communication is not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee

"and bush wants another $25 billion for iraq? that would bring the iraq total to roughly $200 billion dollars. let's write that a different way:

$200,000,000,000.00

so as local police budgets and local firefighting budgets and health-care budgets and education budgets in the u.s are being slashed we're spending $200,000,000,000.00 in iraq? that's just fucking insane.if the u.s.a were a company and george w. were it's ceo he would've been fired ages ago."

from the right-wing financial times...

the bush administration "failed to plan for the post-war period, to provide sufficient troops for peacekeeping or to ensure they were properly trained."

they said it, not me...

Too bad we can't fire him!

Qi Gong and Nephrology as it relates to LOVE!

So first of all, I would like to congratulate Jason W. on his new kidney! I just got the news from Rick and I am almost moved to tears! Apparently it seems like his body is already trying to use it and he may not have to do dialysis anymore! He is so young and I always thought it was so unfortunate! The donor? His girlfriend! How romantic is that? She was a match! Literally!

I went back to school and I learned that I got a 93 on my test. Apparently I did not work the pecs hard enough on my hands on test. She said my work on the subscapularis and the infraspinatous and supraspinatous were excellent though. Sigh. 93 is good though! I will take it.

Afterwards, we did our Tai Chi in the upstairs room. We warmed up first and then we learned a series of movements. It is gonna take some practice and I am not without my lapses in grace but I am determined to pull it off.

It is Cinco de Mayo today and I am eating spaghetti.

Going Bananas!

If I could have an unlimited amount of store credit in any clothing store, it would be Banana Republic! God! Their Spring line was so feminine and pretty and their Summer dresses are so fucking cool! Their jewelry is the best and I would rather have something from there than really expensive platinum or rubies or something! Their brooches are to die for! I love brooches! I think they are so classic!

I used to be an American Eagle fanatic and I do still love their casual stuff but Banana Republic has really smart looking casual stuff too. Sigh. I think that my goal is to eventually wear nothing but dresses. I love them, they make me feel confident and pretty! They are much easier to shop for than pants and tops cause I am really picky about what I wear and I tend to see more dresses that I like than other stuff. I think that all of this is just a sign that I am almost thirty cause I would not have been caught dead in half of the stuff that I like now when I was about five years younger! LOL.

This is all really motivating me more about the diet! I have been looking at the different store websites that I normally look at [Old Navy, American Eagle, J Crew and Banana Republic] in hopes of finding a bathing suit that I like. Sigh...I hate this part of this time of year. Dreaded bathing suit shopping. Anyone else having any luck?

Happy Earth Day!!!

I celebrated this morning by digging two soda cans and a plastic water bottle out of the trash to put in the recycling bin.

My family STILL refuses to take perfectly recyclable stuff out to the garage and toss it in the big blue container. They only put stuff in there that cannot even be recylced that I have to put into the can outside the night before trash day cause the recycling people won't take it. Sigh. I am thinking about using some kind of gold star system to get the kids involved because this is getting kinda depressing. What's even more depressing is that I have to miss the Burt's Bees thingy at Earthfare today! :(

I guess I'd better get my daughter and get her to school so I can go to work. Have a good one!
