So, this was incredibly difficult and also fun! I started it in October, after I saw the film for the first time...

According to last.fm, I listened to each of these songs 60-80 times in the process of putting the mix together. So, uh, this has taken some time? Also there are 35 tracks, because making decisions is hard! So this is more of a fanboxset, really, but I didn’t think anyone would mind... there's a download link for each song, and a .zip file of all the songs at the end of the post. If you need me to break that .zip down into smaller chunks, I think I'm able to do that, so let me know!

There are probably too many Cooper Temple Clause songs on here (three), but it’s not my fault that they wrote such an applicable album! And the title is from a Mountain Goats song, but not the one I used in the actual mix. Okay? Okay. Enjoy!

Sherlock has calmed down a bit! But still- shiny!

My main reaction, to be frank, was WHAT NO LESTRADE. Because seriously. You can't take that away and just give us a 12-year-old grumpy chap instead. WHERE'S MY SHINY POLICEMAN?

Also, I'm not sure why we needed to be in Chinatown/have Chinese baddies. I guess it's there in the original stories? I don't think it was BAD, or anything, but that combined with the wholesale change of policefolk made this episode feel unconnected to the last. Do we have any idea how far apart they're supposed to be, for that matter? Long enough that Sherlock has developed a little, anyway! He was more touchy in general this week, and warmer, and more compassionate. Generally rather lovely, actually. Yay boy.

Martin Freeman, incidentally, was born to react to a self-service checkout machine.

...And I'm pretty sure I had more thoughts, but I've been derailed by a Red Dwarf marathon on Dave. Oh well.

I'm liking this new-style River Song. And all the visual referencing of Bond.

Also, the bow-tie is still making me happy.

"It's a long story, and I don't know most of it." I like this adorable, frustrated little Doctor.

I'm not sure about River Song as a character, but I love the idea. The Doctor always meets people in strange orders for them, but (in New Who at least, I haven't seen the Old) we never see him experiencing that disorientation. It's nice to see him in situation where he doesn't have all the cards.

I still really can't make sense of Amy. Which is good, I think. She's interesting.

She did a one-eyed blink! Fuck yeah, Amy, that's what I always figured I would do! I love how measured she is with her fear, "What's it going to do with me? [DOES CLEVER SHIT] That was good, yeah? It was, wasn't it?"

WELL, THAT WAS AWESOME. Best one this series so far, yes yes.

-Everyone got stuff to do! And every base was covered!

-Bradley James's poutyface.

-Morgana has sexy underwear, yes yes.

-Almost all the dialogue here needed to chill out. You're not that epic all the time, show. Nobody is that epic all the time!

-Morgana going off on one at Arthur, just for him to turn round and be all 'I am WAY ahead of you, shoosh now' was adorable.

-I love that there was no element of servantry in this episode. Gwen and Morgana are friends, here. Arthur and Merlin are friends here. The only people who give a shit about rank are Uther and the bad guy.

-Lancelot is like Obama. It's all about the oratory and the pretty words and the srs face. The ladies, they like heartfelt speeches and the srs face.

-I think my favourite thing about Lancelot, though, is that Merlin can be awesome in front of him. It's really nice. And the way Merlin was all 'lol shh', completely unworried, when Lancelot mentioned it. My heart.

They have hardcore crushes, so they're acting like lovestruck idiots. Because they are suffering from the effects of SUDDEN CRUSH ON PRETTY PERSON syndrome.

-The Gwen/Morgana hug was adorable. And I loved that they just kept hugging, until Arthur realised he was cramping their homosexual style, and left to give them some homosexual privacy.

-I'm assuming Arthur took Gwen aside at some point and told her that actually, he was coming of his own accord (rather than having been begged by Morgana). We didn't see it, but come on, that's Arthur's way in these situations.

-The Arthur/Merlin banter has actually matured, I think. They're not so playful and persistent, but they're BANG on the nail. Merlin especially has got it made, as far as teasing Arthur goes. Their reaction to each other in this episode dispelled all my worries about regression of their relationship- they're fine.

-Did anyone else get the feeling Merlin just thought Arthur's angst was cute? As in, he was measuring it against his own and concluded 'That's nothing, I am FUCKING MAGICAL, so you can stop whining’, but still with the usual side-order of 'you can fix it when your dad's dead!'

-I'm amazed this is the case, but Merlin needs more to do. He is not a prop.

-I have more thoughts but I don't remember them. Bear with me while I rewatch and edit!

-I am still thinking about Morgana's sexy undercrackers.

-Gaius stepping forward to lead 'hysterical' Morgana away after it is decided Gwen can't be rescued? CREEPYTIMES.

-Merlin and Arthur were such a TEAM this week! It makes my heart happy. And the banter! Really, perfect.

-Why did Lancelot 'spare' his opponent in the cage fight? Did he not know about the rat-thing?

-I love Arthur this episode. Particularly the 'Guinevere, have to go! as he drags her down the tunnel. Feel free to prevent the moody poetry any time you like, my boy.

-The writers seem to have forgotten that Merlin and Gwen are friends. He cares about her, why would he be so slacky about protecting her? This is Merlin, people! Boy would feed himself to a shark to keep a friend from breaking a nail.

In other news I went shopping. I bought a dress (£7, reduced from £30! But two sizes too small, haha. I might post a picture tomorrow), and cheap records (Belle and Sebastian's BBC Sessions, Super Furry Animals and Brendan Benson, plus some anonymous bargain vinyl). I didn't buy a beautiful, glorious, heavenly lumberjack shirt, because it was too expensive and looked like pyjamas. However, if I am still using those adjectives for it by the end of the week, I may weaken. I do have some birthday money, after all.

It's my birthday! And I'm not a teenager any more!

I don't really get presents in real life, but the internet has been kind to me. And my housemates threw a tiny party for me at five minutes past midnight, with cake and balloons and everything.
