CiQUS (est. 2011) is a multidisciplinary research center specializing in Synthetic Chemistry, Chemical Biology, and Functional Materials. The center currently hosts 19 research groups and over 200 members. During the 2022-2024 period, our research groups raised 9 MEUR/year (2022-2024) and published over 100 publications/year, 40% in high-impact journals (JCR-IF > 9). Since its creation, our researchers have been awarded 16 ERC projects (2 SyG, 1 AdG, 4 CoG, 5 StG, 4 PoC) and 24 MSCA actions. Additionally, they have secured 2 ongoing EIC-Transition as coordinators and established 4 new spin-off companies. ENERGY STORAGE > Supramolecular Aqueous Electrolyte: Zn-bromine redox-flow and static rechargeable batteries > Catalyst Confinement of Metal Transition Oxides: bifunctional air electrodes & electrolyzers. > Scalable COFs & MOFs for next-gen battery electrodes. SYNTHETIC TECHNOLOGIES & VALORIZATION > Robust stabilization of industrial enzymes under extreme conditions. Ongoing PoC for complete PET depolymerization (addressing plastic waste). > Polymer Degradation & Biodegradability: improving polymer lifespan and biodegradability. > CO2 Photochemical Conversion into valuable chemicals. > Alkane Valorization: Efficient conversion of natural gas into commercially relevant ketones. > Photocatalytic COFs: High-efficiency red-light photocatalysis under mild conditions. NANO-BIOELECTRONICS, SPINTRONICS > Non-volatile Thermal States: Precise control of thermal conductivity in oxide materials. > Tailored synthesis of PAHs and nanographenes for nanoporous sensors. > Polymer-Assisted Deposition (PAD): High-quality epitaxial oxide thin films (as thin as 4 nm).
