The Fabric 8.4.0 Official Release

We are excited to announce the release of Fabric 8.4.0, which introduces significant enhancements to Fabric, Catalog and Web Studio, highlighted by the built-in support for MCP (Model Context Protocol). The release highlights are:

  • MCP Server Support: Fabric now automatically exposes each Logical Unit (LU) and Data Product as an MCP server, providing built-in resources and tools for AI integration.
  • The Catalog enhancements include among others the following new features:
    • Advanced Catalog Management: Reverting the Catalog to previous versions and deleting specific data platforms to clean up metadata.
    • Granular Artifact Building: Ability to build artifacts for a single data platform or the entire Catalog, featuring a real-time progress bar with estimated completion time.
    • Improved Discovery Monitoring: Redesigned discovery monitor, with vertical step details and automated expansion of error and warning sections for better visibility.
  • NoSQL Query Builder for NoSQL interfaces is now included in the Web Studio, allowing for seamless querying of non-relational data sources.
  • Akeyless Secrets Management: Security has been expanded to include support for Akeyless Secrets Management.
  • Fabric now supports parallel processing for Entity transfers to and from Amazon S3 and Microsoft Azure, which significantly reduces the large entities’ transfer times.
  • High-Performance PostgreSQL Loading: A new Broadway actor, PgCopy, enables high-speed bulk data inserts into PostgreSQL databases using the native COPY command.

The TDM 9.5 Official Release

TDM 9.5 has just been released and it includes the following new features/capabilities:

  • New TDM Usage Reports are now available via the TDM App and the Reports web application, providing comprehensive visibility into how TDM is used across your organization. This capability enables organizations to optimize resource usage, enhance operational efficiency, and maximize ROI from their TDM investment, turning raw usage data into smarter decisions and measurable business value.

  • Worker and affinity configuration at both environment and task levels (entity-based and table-based tasks), enabling better workload distribution and resource control.

  • In-place masking for table-level tasks, allowing PII fields to be updated directly in existing records without deleting or reloading data.

  • Significantly improved table-level performance through parallel processing of table partitions, reducing execution time for large tables.

  • Additional table-level enhancements, including faster table list retrieval in the Task Window and the ability to disable row count calculation when not required.

  • Improved template field resolution, with target fields now retrieved directly from the data catalog to better support of case-sensitive data sources.

  • TDM App modernization, migration of major TDM App components from Angular to React.

  • AI-based SDG improvements.

The Fabric 8.3.1 Official Release

We are glad to announce the release of Fabric 8.3.1! This version introduces several key enhancements to both Fabric and the Catalog. Here are some of the highlights of this release:

  • Improved transaction management: Catalog's graph creation in Neo4j has been enhanced by splitting the changes into batches. This allows to run each batch in parallel as separate transactions, significantly reducing memory consumption during Discovery job execution.
  • Enhanced data quality: The quality of generated data during masking and SDG is now improved. This is achieved by the ability to override the Generator's default input parameters with values of the Catalog metrics (calculated from the data snapshot).
  • Version differences list: The Catalog App now includes a Version Differences window which displays changes between selected versions and allows exporting the data to a CSV file.
  • Expanded JSON support: Cataloging of JSON files now fully supports Draft-07 and later versions of the JSON Schema specification.
  • Web Studio enhancements:
    • You can now hide LUs in the Project tree within Web Studio, excluding them from build and deployment.
    • We've made various enhancements to both Graphit and Environments UX.
  • Fortanix KMS Integration: Fabric now supports storing its encrypted master key for data encryption in Fortanix Data Security Manager KMS.
